I (most unfortunately) missed the episode last night!!!! Someone please tell me the lowdown...what happened? I'm talkin' major spoilers here, people! I want details.

Anyone who doesn't want to know, don't read further . . .

Inara (who was away most of this ep for a mandatory Companion medical checkup, returning to Serenity and meeting Kaylee): "What's going on here?"
Kaylee (in a casual, upbeat tone): "Oh, well, let's see- we killed Simon and River, stole a bunch of medicine, and now the Captain and Zoe are off to springing the others got snatched by the Feds." (Vehicle lands in Serenity cargo bay.) "Oh, and here they are now."

More details? River slashes Jayne with a knife in one of her fits, causing serious ill will from Mal. So Simon comes up with a plan for them to break into an Alliance hospital so he can use their equipment to diagnose River. Convinces the others to do it because they can steal stuff that will make them a lot of money. They con their way in past the guards, thanks to their elaborate (and humorous, though somewhat unbelievable) preparations, which also include Simon and River feigning death. Once inside, Jayne turns in Simon and River for the reward!!! The Alliance officer then doublecrosses Jayne and arrests him too. Two "Blue Hands" arrive to take away River and Simon. The Blue Hands are shown to be extremely scary and evil. Jayne breaks them out of custody, "rescuing" them, and then they are further rescued by Mal and Zoe, who were busy elsewhere stealing stuff. Returning to Serenity, Simon gushes about what a hero Jayne is, unaware that it was Jayne who had turned them over to the Feds. Mal however does realize this, and once alone with Jayne, nearly kills him in a very intense scene!!! At the last second Mal sees that Jayne appears to be ashamed of his actions, and spares Jayne's life.
Book was missing, apparently dropped off at a monastery sometime earlier.

A couple of other points from the episode:

Simon found out that the Academy folks had been cutting into River's head, and that they'd "stripped her amygdala," which makes it so that she can't block out her emotions. (Incidentally, I'm told that removing the amygdala actually renders people emotionless. So I don't know what "stripping" entails.)

Also, the Blue Hand Group have a little tube that basically makes people start bleeding out of every orifice in their heads and die. It's scary.

And at the end, Simon gave River some sort of shot. I don't know what it was for, exactly, but I assume it had to do with what he'd learned. (Anybody else pick up anything more specific?)
