Keep the Shiny side up

Above average, with enough Joss humor to keep it from being another dead-serious fantasy show, a la Grimm.

Can already see possibilities for how the inevitable twists and turns develop.

Also looking forward to finding out the reality of Mr. Coulson's "Trip to Tahiti".

Damn. Missed it. How much air time did Ron get?

Added: Just watched on Hulu. Not bad. But a lot more Ron would have made it a lot better.

I think it'll be up on hulu tonight? We can't get that or Castle so we always have to wait until hulu posts it to watch...

See, I missed the light bulb jokes. Nice to see so many familiar faces though.

And from the previews , it looks like Simon loaned S.H.I.E.L.D. his concussion stick. What's the back story on that device ?

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Even though it is Joss, I had dialed my expectations way down. I knew it wouldn't be as awesome as Avengers or Captain America or Iron Man, and that we would only be hearing about those characters while watching the adventures of lesser heroes. It is too soon to tell about the supporting cast, but Clark Gregg is perfect for this project.

Long live Coulson!

I liked it, didn't love it - but I do think there's a lot of potential.

One thing that struck me - there's one staple of successful Joss ensembles that this cast is missing - the asshole. They need a Jane or Cordy or Stark. Its part of what makes his cast dynamic sing, I feel.

I agree, I wasn't Wowed. But there's definite potential. To me this first episode was kind of generic, but I know Joss always starts slow and leaves a trail of breadcrumbs along the way.

I wasn't too thrilled with the tall dark dude, but I like the young hacker girl. And please give Ming Na more to do. Seeing Ron was great, hope we get to see some more FF vets like Badger and Monty, maybe even Saffron.

2nd ep was cool. I'm likin' this series. Not epic yet, but this is how it begins.

I think the show's going to find its sea legs pretty quickly; consider how many weeks it took Dollhouse to find its voice. By comparison, S.H.I.E.L.D. seems to be on fairly solid ground already.

Also, I've got to admit, the

Select to view spoiler:

Samuel L. Jackson/Nick Fury cameo

caught me by surprise. I was expecting occasional drop-ins by the movie names, but not quite so early.

They're preparing us for the next Avengers movie, which should be epic.

The same slow start happened over at The Blacklist with James Spader. The 2nd episode was much, much better.

I was less wowed w/ the 2nd ep. Randomly, where as I should be amused at the antics of Fitz/Simmons, I'm finding them to be annoying.

Last scene cameo wasn't too bad, but I was expecting more.

LOL @ the fish tank though.

Lotta meh characters. Decent plots, but I could blow most of the team out an airlock and not think twice. I WANT MEN, not 120 lb pasty BOYS. And whatever happened to WOMANHOOD? These are KIDS, and I'm not THAT old....
Nothing special or of note about anyone but Coulson....

Eh, she's ok, I just hope there's more to her character than kicking butt and acting grumpy and Coulson apologizing to her every episode for "getting back into combat situations again" (OH AND WHO DIDN'T THINK "THEY ARE LETTING THE ASIAN CHICK FLY??!! HAVE YOU SEEN THESE PEOPLE DRIVE???!) Bwah ha ha ha ha

OF COURSE she'll be in combat every thirty seconds, DUH! The company is called Shield, not Play-doh...

At least she doesn't look like she's twelve. Have we killed off everyone over the age of 35 on shows lately or what? Is this some kind of an empowerment trip? MOST 20-29 year olds I know can't find their asses with both hands let alone....

I read a review that address this very well, I feel - its as if they're trying to use a lack of character development as character development. Coulson has a secret, May has a secret, Skye has a secret, ect.... but aside from Coulson - they've yet to give us much reason to care.

Ratings dropped 34% for the second episode. Not a big problem, since it started so high, but if that trend continues, they'll be retooling quickly, Id wager.

Uh..... what? How does that track??

I doubt there were federally funded screenings which were cancelled due to those shenanigans. If anything, ratings would go up, as more people are home.

Well, home, maybe, but worrying- some how to pay bills with no pay coming in now, others not happy with government in general, and SHIELD can be seen at as part of the 'government'...
AOS is new, and takes some concentration as such. Events in RL can diffuse that IMO. Just sayin' in a calmer moment its ratings might have been better is all.

Yeah.... I think its just a natural occurrence when a show launches so huge, and not everyone is super impressed.

Along with baseball playoffs, a highly publicized character exit episode on NCIS, plus the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 online. Quite a few things that could have skewed the ratings for the second week.

Ill give ya the playoffs, had forgotten about that. Maybe NCIS. No way on Grand Theft Auto - it barely functioned, hardly anyone was actually playing.

But still - its pretty much standard for a show that opens that huge tapering off quite a bit after the premiere. V was the last show to premiere as big, and it dropped 27% it's second week. Lotsa people tune in to check it out - and some are simply not going to stick around.

Hey guys,

I caught the first two episodes and it's not really grabbing me just yet. Not sure why. I'll definitely give it a few more. I guess part of it is that the superhero motif just never does much for me, and frankly - it sorta seems like Joss is recycling a lot of his stuff. I'm all for reuse, but...
