I think Agent Phil Coulson was brought back to life

by Dr. Strange and the physical therapist was Dr. Strange's disciple/lover Clea.

My theory is that Agent Coulson doesn't like magic. Maybe because he was killed by
Loki or maybe even before.

Agent Coulson fav hero is Captain America who got his powers from science.

Magic is mentioned several times in the episode. When a hologram is shown,
Fitz says something like It looks like magic but it's science.

"Tahiti. It's a magical place."

If this statement
"a physical therapist whose command of English was... irrelevant."
means that the physical therapist spoke some unknown language.

Note that Coulson doesn't say if the physical therapist was a man or woman.

The word "irrelevant" seems odd in the sentence. Maybe a magic placeholder
for when Coulson memory is going to remember something he shouldn't.

Dr. Strange's friend/lover Clea is from somewhere not earth and
maybe did not speak English around Agent Coulson. Also magic spells might not have
been in English.

A reason Coulson should never know how he was brought back could be a dislike of magic
or that if he knew, he would no longer consider himself to be real.

So I'm going to keep an eye out for
1. ... pauses and the word "irrelevant"
2. word magic
3. was the physical therapist a man or woman. Woman would have white or blond hair like Clea.
4. see if Agent Coulson doesn't like magic.

I haven't enough concrete indications to form an opinion, especially with Joss, things don't ever fully appear to be what you think they could.

The wording certainly WAS carefully chosen, for sure...

Doubtful, since Dr. Strange won't be coming along for at least 3 more years.

Im betting that Coulson is a Life Model Decoy, as many have speculated. Worth noting: In the comics, the Decoys are originally created by the Zodiac Key. They day SHIELD premiered, they also released Iron Man 3 on DVD - which included the short film "Agent Carter," which featured Peggy Carter (from Captain America) on a mission to retrieve something called... "The Zodiac." Once retrieved, the device went into SHIELD storage...

Yeah Life Model Decoy seems like the most obvious choice. Which means it could be a big fake out.

I'll be looking for any signs that Coulson is stronger, faster, more durable, etc. than would normally be expected.

My bet is an LMD, but that really would be a cool way to intro Dr. Strange into the franchise.

That's what he said and Maria Hill said "He can never know". That is very open ended though. Could be just about anything.

Did anyone else notice in the pilot, when Gunn's character blew the door off of skye's van - Coulson seemed like he did a Matrix-style backward bend to avoid it.

I'm starting to give a little more thought to a "magical" reason for why Coulson's back. The reference to Tahiti being a "magical place" is interesting. I kinda hope they don't use magic though. I think it will turn off a good portion of the mass audience.

Well now it seems his muscle memory is gone. So, that pretty much means clone or life model decoy, right? That or he really is rusty and it's all misdirection. Somehow I think this show is too mainstream for them to pull something like that though.

I think Scarlet Witch is in the next Avengers movie.

So maybe it was the Scarlet Witch.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Did anyone else notice his "Dollhouse" moment at the very end of one of the episodes? It showed him in Tahiti, getting a massage, and he said, "Did I fall asleep?" and the masseuse responded, "For a little while."
I have to think that was some inside-reference clue that his consciousness was placed in another body somehow. I know there have been other little bits (the missing muscle memory was the first time I started thinking he was a clone or LMD) but that one really made me sit up and take notice.

What reason had proved best ceased to look absurd to the eye, which shows how idle it is to think anything ridiculous except what is wrong.

Well the latest episode revealed some stuff. At the very least we know they implanted memories. It's still not clear how exactly they brought him back or why. Hand was bringing up a point that no SHIELD agent would get the kind of resources devoted to their recovery that Coulson got. So, is there something inherently special about him?

Also, I'm throwing it out there that I think Hand might be the "clairvoyant". It wouldn't be that she's psychic just that she has high level clearance and has access to a lot of information through SHIELD. That's how Centipede knows so much about Coulson's past. It's in his file. However, I'm thinking Coulson's resurrection is either not in his file at all or requires even higher clearance and that is what intrigues her about him.

What happened? He see your face?

Show is improving... ...and it needed to. Bill Paxton to make a four episode arc surely doesn't hurt. GAME OVER MAN!!!! Big marvel reader from the 80's and 90's. Not sure what happened in the cartoons.

On Coulson:
My initial thought at the beginning of the season was Coulson is an LMD. But the 2nd half opener shows a robot keeping his brain alive (memory implants as well). They also show a quick space shot and some green liquid. Inhumans, which marvel plans a push for, are derived from terrigen mists. Marvels "other" mutants basically. BUT FOX owns the mutants/x-men/x-titles. Meanwhile, Clark Gregg tweets something like "Seems almost... Inhuman" Now, that could mean robot, LMD too, buuttt.... Guardians of the Galaxy which is coming out this Summer involves a Kree (Ronan), which has something to do with the Inhumans. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm..... who knows, wild speculation here. :)

on Skye:
I've heard she may be Jessica Drew (Spider woman), not knowing if Sony owns the rights to that or not. But, that doesn't explain the village and agents being killed over a baby.

Clairvoyant:
still no clue, MODOK maybe. HYDRA and AIM are already mentioned in the MCU. Centipede is HYDRA. Some have suggested ultron who will be the antagonist of Avengers2 since he is an advanced AI, but IDK. I am pretty sure AoS will lead to Cap2: the winter soldier uncovering how corrupt/infiltrated SHIELD really is.

Other tidbits:
Girl in the flower dress could be someone from the Savage land.

I am almost certain Mike Peterson is Deathlok after scene with him with missing limbs, an eye, burns, etc

I just got caught up w/ the eps, and wow... didn't see most of that comin'.

Skye and the village being wiped out , that stuff ... seems iffy. As in , maybe they still need to flush out the rest of that story, but so far, they only have an outline ? Not sure what was meant about 'death follows her', or what ever. If the last time he saw her was as an infant, how would he really know ?

I was hoping for better Tahiti story, but I guess we got what we got.

Must be tough to have them writing story lines with multiple BIG characters ( Hulk, Thor, Capt America, Iron Man,et al ) to work in/ around/ even if they're all in the background.

Not being an Avengers Fanboy here, I'm at a disadvantage in knowing characters and back story, etc.

Same goes w/ X Men, or pretty much any comic book hero saga brought to the big / small screen.

I guess I fall more in w/ the 'general public' audience on this stuff. But it's still fun to see true fans pipe up and add their comments.

Because I must have missed that part last week, and I really did think that top level chick was part of Hydra. The who's - who game of Hydra or SHIELD is very cleverly done.

I'm digging the tie in w/ the Winter Soldier , though.

Absolutely watch Winter Soldier first IMO. They give away some plot details from the movie in the episode.

The movie really ratcheted up the tension for the show. Which was the plan from the start from what I'm reading. Pretty dang cool. Just a really slow burn for a new show. They needed something to happen before now to keep the viewers interested. Anyway it will be interesting to see where the ratings go from here.

With apologies to Joss, The Winter Soldier is in my opinion the best MCU production yet, not only in the action scenes and FX, but also character development. And they were not kidding when they said it, "Changes Everything." I am glad I saw it yesterday before the new SHIELD episode.

I can't see how SHIELD's ratings won't be climbing from now to the season finale. With Avengers 2 out next year and Cap3 the year after, there's no reason for ABC not to renew SHIELD even if the ratings are flat the rest of the year.

I cringed a bit when I heard a review of TWS where they said " it's better than The Avengers! ". That, to me, sounded like a studio desperate to get fans into the theatre, as if they'd not be buying tickets anyways.

Yes. I thought it was very good. I'll likely go see it again. Soon. But better ? To each their own.

As for Agents of Shield, things got real in a hurry. I thought the tie in w/ the movie was damn near excellent. And they did it w/ OUT being over the top either. If you saw the episode and hadn't seen the movie, you're really gonna want to now.

So, I was curious and went to look up the ratings. Apparently Agents of SHIELD hit an all time low this week. I'm baffled. I would have thought people who saw the movie and used to watch the show would come back to see how they were gonna handle it. Best I can think is maybe a lot of people haven't seen the movie and heard that they really need to see it before watching further episodes.

SHIELD has regularly had about the highest percentage boost from DVR and online viewing than any other show this year. More and more people are not tied to the networks' broadcast schedule. So, it may not look so great when you look at the LIVE numbers, but then there's Live+Same Day, Live+3 Days and Live+7 Days that the suits are relying on more these days. I still say it is unlikely that SHIELD will be cancelled. ABC, Disney & Marvel have too much at stake to abandon it now.

Of course, I've been wrong before.
