The arthouse theater I saw the BDM in (Austin, TX) had about 45 min. of special features, targeted for fans before the movie started. The only one on the US dvd was the "special intro" from Joss (I've been searching the web since for the others). I hope you browncoats in the other parts of the 'verse got to enjoy some of those extras on your disks. I'll probably be buyin' any special-edition, director's cut, or other shiney versions of the dvd so I reckon it'll all balance in the end.

"Can I make a suggestion that doesn't involve violence, or is this the wrong crowd for that?"
-Wash
"You're on my crew. Why we still talking about this?"

So go ahead and feel superior, Losers!

By the way, usually the US gets the best DVD extras, so try not ot be so bitter when we Brits get a better DVD package FOR ONCE!!!!!

I get fed up of Americans (or Yanks in British slang) who get all high and mighty about how awful the British are and about how superior they are to us Brits.............

I, for one, like Americans........... I find them out going and friendly and I often prefer that to British reserve and sarcastic sense of humour.

However, CAN YOU PLEASE STOP GOING ON ABOUT HOW YOU WON THE WAR OF INDEPENDANCE and HOW YOUR SOLDIERS CAME AND WON BOTH THE FIRST AND SECOND WORLD WARS blah blah blah blah blah .......... HOGWASH!!!!!

I have studied both US and British history, so I know what I'm talking about.

The US is a great country and champions democracy, but I think that you'll find Britain has been a democracy longer- parliament really came into power after the end of the English Civil War in 1651.

I'd just like to quote from a booklet prepared for the US soldiers coming to join in WW2, to prepare them for life in War time Britian....

" You may think of them (the English) as enemy Redcoats who fought against us in the American Revolution and the War of 1812. But this is no time today to fight over old wars again or to bring up old grievances.......it doesn't mean anything now.

The most evident truth is that in their major ways of life the British and American people are much alike. They speak the same language. They both believe in representative government, in freedom of worship, in freedom of speech,. But each country has minor national characteristics which differ. It is my causing misunderstanding over these minor differences that Hitler* hopes to make his propaganda effective....
(* - insert any present day opponent to democracy and for the US/British 'special friendship')

Just think about it!!!!

"You know what the first rule of flying is? ..... Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she ought to fall down, tells you she's hurting before she keels. Makes her a home." Mal, talking about Serenity
(sure Mal, you're so NOT talking about Inara!!)

*yawn*

Face it! We OWNED you back in the revolutionary war, and we saved your booty back in WW2, so I suggest you kiss our collective, American butts, and be thankful.

Cheeky!!!

If it wasn't for Britain, The United States wouldn't exist. and Britain has been a democracy for at least 200 years longer than the USA.

We in the UK has an extra on our DVD of Serenity out at the end of February. If you feel so strongly about it, get your self a multi-region DVD player and buy yourself a Region 2 copy when it comes out here.

Plus you will be helping the Firefly / Serenity cause by buying an extra copy, helping our chances of Joss being able to make another movie &/or tv series about the Serenity crew, which all we really want anyway!!!

Love all you fellow Browncoats, wherever you're from !!

Love all you Americans (I studied American Studies at University & have visited the USA several times)!

Peace & Love to all you Browncoats out there!

What this fails to take into account is that it is currently amazingly easy to get a DVD player that's region hackable. I bought one for around $40 so that I could import Spaced (and soon Black Books!).

Both of these shows are fantastic! I love how British sitcoms are so artist-controlled. The shows develop personalities all their own and the writing is so consistent. Short seasons (six episode runs usually.. rarely more than nine) also contribute to the high quality by eliminating the need for crappy filler episodes.

Most important of all is the ground covered in these shows. Brits take humor places American TV execs would never let it go in the States. A hateful drunken lout like Bernard in Black Books could never play out the extremes of his condition in an American sitcom. Maybe in a one hour drama.. but only as a preachy cautionary tale. Similarly, the techno/X fueled bike messenger guy who takes the friends of Spaced to an all night rave... once again... never in a U.S. sitcom.

So get yourself a multi-format DVD player and be cooler than your friends by watching Brit TV.

Long live British comedy!!!

mattro

PS: For those of you who don't know, the creators of Spaced are the same folks who brought you the brilliant Shaun of the Dead (and the upcoming Hot Fuzz http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=17728). Actors from Black Books and Little Britain also appeared in Shaun of the Dead.

That level of rudeness is uncalled for - I didn't see any messages from British posters acting 'superior'. Nor is the difference in DVD versions their fault. Oh, and a great many of those 'British' redcoats were Germans/Hessians!
