The Official Firefly Website finally tossed out a bit of info for us wanting fans to chew on. Brett, their resident spy on the set is no more, having moved onto the frontlines to work with the Firefly writers on a more permanent basis. The new official spy is now Kelly. Let me just add that, personally, I prefer female spies over male spies any day. Female spies look good kicking ass. I have no doubt that she'll do her utmost in acquiring whatever morsels of info she can for us.

Okay, on to the bits. The latest info from Kelly is that Firefly now has three more writers to churn the creative juices. They are Ben Edlund, Jose Molina, and Cheryl Cain. A quick look at IMDB reveals that Ben Edlund previously worked with Joss Whedon on Titan A.E.. In addition, Edlund also created the comic book series, The Tick, and was the executive producer of the failed TV series of the same name which aired on FOX last season. Jose Molina, who we all know by now, is from the cancelled Dark Angel TV series. And Cheryl Cain, probably the least experienced of the new writers, wrote the episode River Dog for Roswell.

We're also told that Firefly production designer Carey Meyer's sandbox just grew larger. According to Kelly, Firefly added another soundstage to their existing two, which by the way were used to house the sets for the Serenity for the shooting of the original pilot. With all that stuff, coupled with the fantastic CGI that the team at Radium are working on, Firefly is going to be one hell of a mind-blowing series to ogle at.

But wait. We all know sets and special effects are not the most important things in Firefly, right? This is, after all, a Joss Whedon series. It's the storytelling and emotions it evokes that count. It's what Whedon and his staff of writers can make us feel about the characters that matters most. I'm sure, with all the talents behind the series, we're gonna be in awe in both vision and heart come Fall. Can you wait? I can't.

Yeah, this new Kelly, is this Kelly Manners? I know it was Joss' assistant Brett Matthews before, but this new girl?

If you know anyone that can help my screenwriting career, please help! And yes, I am self-advertising here. Hehehe, me such a little devil.

Well, I don't know about the Cheryl chick or the DA guy, but the Tick was pretty funny as a comic book, entertaining as a cartoon, and ho-effing-larious as a tv series (sorry to purists and haterators, but Bat-Manuel was effing funny).

So at least one of these people, IMO, bodes well for the funny bone of Firefly, at least...

And of course, Alan Tudyk, whose name I'm too lazy to look up the spelling for, is a known pro at comic relief...

Woo!

Viva la funny!

Steve DeKnight also posted at the Bronze Beta that he will be writing one episode of Firefly, in addition to probably three Angel episodes and one Buffy. So I guess he can be added to the writers roster.

Whodat? I looked him up at the IMDB, but there was nobody matching that name.

What else has he done?

He's been a BtVS writer for the last two seasons, and a good one. He wrote the episodes 'Blood Ties' and 'Spiral' in S5, and 'All the Way', 'Dead Things', and 'Seeing Red' in S6. He is more or less taking Tim Minear's place in the AtS writing staff this season.

Wow! I'm impressed!

Ben Edlund is a terrific writer, though he's mostly known for the satirical superhero series, "The Tick" (a magnificent comics achievement, though the equally excellent TV series wasn't given nearly enough of a shot!), I have no doubt that he'll fit in with Joss Whedon & Co. (similarly warped minds...).

Cheryl Cain may be the unexpected surprise, though. "River Dog" was one of the best episodes of "Roswell", Season One - back when it was both popular with the audience, *and* critically acclaimed.

I'm not certain about Jose Molina, as I don't remember which "Dark Angel" season one eps he wrote (I didn't watch most of season two after they turned the show into a fusion of the worst of "The X-Men" crossed with the worst of "Beauty and the Beast".

Still, I know that at least two of the three are excellent writers, and have no real reason to doubt the skill of the third.

It seems like "Firefly's" creative team is really coming together. This can only be considered a "Good Thing".

Just for the record, I thought Cheryl Cain's River Dog was an amazing episode of Roswell using a Native American thread that the producers should have followed further in future seasons. One of the most memorable eps of Roswell overall.
