Wonderfalls - Release pushed back
Posted by Gord Lacey
9/21/2004

According to SaveWonderfalls.com, Fox has pushed the release of the set back to January 18th because the previous date (December 7th) was too crowded. Hopefully we'll have an official announcement from Fox within the next few weeks.

I was able to watch all the episodes (12 total I think) and I really wish this show had stayed on the air.
Looking forward to the DVD.

That kinda bites. I was hoping to have something entertaining to watch over the holiday. Oh well, I only saw the first 3 episodes on TV, but I'm still buying the set ASAP.

bummer--I was also hoping to have them to watch at Christmas. I guess I'll go with "Keen Eddie" as the alternate.

I was going to get "Keen Eddie", also. However, I heard that the studio replaced all of the good music, that went so well with the show, with techno crap. So I'm rethinking whether to buy that or not. I know they do that because of licensing costs, but I'd really rather pay more for the dvd and have the original songs than pay less for a watered down version.

I will for sure get "Wonderfalls" whenever they release it. That's a real gem of a show.

that's a shame about the music--I have to admit I can't remember any specific songs they used, but I do remember noting that the music selections were always great for the scenes they were used in. Is the stuff they are substituting in just generic techno, or (hopefully) did they get Daniel Ash to compose more for the DVDs?

I've read on Amazon reviews that it's just generic techno. What was so great about the original music was that the action on screen often seemed to be choreographed to the music - more so than most other shows. The original music was often integral to the action. I don't know what it would be like to watch the show without that. I still may buy it anyway, but it's now a lot lower on my list of "must haves".

At this point I would think that fox is just sabatoging its own releases so it has a "reason" not to fill the "small niche's" anymore.

If it is true that they changed the music to something inappropriate for the show then I would think that this would (at least) partially prove the point.

From a marketing point of view, a December release would catch people for x-mas shopping where-as a January release catches people in the "I can't afford a can of pop" phase after x-max.

I've downloaded it off the torrents and have enjoyed what I've seen so far. But, I *will* buy it *if* it is in an unmodified format (as I must encourage more of the same). If it is modified, I'll be quite happy with my original tv-rips.

Has there been anything offical from fox on this yet?

The Fox Network and Fox Home Video are two different companies owned by the same parent company. The network has nothing to do with the home video distributor.

But, wouldn't they have the same parent company (or one is the parent of the other) that would maintain a common mentality of all the companies called fox?

Yes, like I already said, they have the same parent company. It all ends there. The only difference between Fox Home Video and Paramount Home Video, is that Fox HV has the rights to distribute material produced by Fox Studios (another company seperate from the Fox Network).

Newscorp, the Fox parent company, does not dictate the actions of either the network or the home video distributor, beyond any substantial financial issues. Cancelling a television series is up to the Fox Network, not Newscorps nor Fox Home Video. These companies have nothing to do with each other unless Fox Studios happened to produce a television series that aired on the Fox Network that Fox Home Video would now like to distribute on DVD.

From TVShowsonDVD.com:

Quote:

From the producer of Angel and Firefly comes Wonderfalls with 9 never aired episodes. Although a recent graduate of Brown University, Jaye Tyler decides to ignore her degree, live in a trailer and work at a tourist gift shop in Niagara Falls called Wonderfalls--much to the despair of her well-to-do family. But Jaye's aimless life takes a startling turn after a lion figurine begins talking to her. Her family calls it an "episode," but Jaye knows better. Fearing for her sanity, Jaye nevertheless starts doing exactly what an increasing number of inanimate objects tell her to do and is amazed when her outrageous actions begin changing people's lives in unexpected ways.

Fox's failed series from 2003 hits DVD on February 1st in a three disc set containing all 13 episodes of the series, including 9 where weren't aired in the initial broadcast run.

Disc 1: Wax Lion, Pink Flamingos, Karma Chameleon and Wound-up Penguin
Disc 2: Crime Dog, Muffin Buffalo, Barrel Bear and Lovesick Ass
Disc 3: Safety Canary, Lying Pig, Cocktail Bunny, Totem Mole and Caged Bird

Though viewers only caught 4 episodes during the broadcast run the show gained a cult following that has been looking forward to the release of the DVDs since the show was cancelled. The set will be released with English 5.1 audio, a full frame (1.33:1) picture, and English and Spanish subtitles. Expect this 566 min set to sell for suggested prices of $39.98 US and $54.98 CAN.

Special features include:

Quick update to say that Barnes&Noble.com already has it available for pre-order. Amazon doesn't yet.
