HAKEN

Likes to mess with stuffs.

Well.

It gets better.

As thus: The movie is very nearly finished. You've seen many pretty images in the trailer. But I've still got work to do and you've still got months before you can see it.

Unless.

And, no, I'm not talking Australia (but Hi, Australia! anyway), I'm talking here in the more-or-less-United States, a one time multi-city Browncoat sneak event. Thursday, May 5th at 10:00 pm, the movie (Serenity! Pay attention! Jeez.) will be playing at exactly 10 theaters in 10 cities across the country. You (or possibly someone much like you) (or possibly a robot EXACTLY like you, but with better manners and sonic arm-lasers, sent to take your place) will be able to buy a ticket to see Serenity months in advance. Not just the bitty trailer with not enough Kaylee and Book, but the whole film, in its extremely almost completed state.

You probably have some questions. How is this possible? What cities exactly will it be in? What are these changes my body is going through? All valid. It's possible because some clown put a bunch of Universal execs in a theater full of Browncoats and dude, they came out SWEATING, they never seen energy like that. They loved it, and even though they were already wicked supportive of the movie (see: earlier posts re: we're making the movie) they simply weren't ready for you guys. When I whinged on about pushing the date and everyone here was posting about "what do we do till September", they agreed to let me sneak it out.

Maybe they thought it was a fluke. Maybe they wanna see if people really do care about the flick. Or maybe they're just treating us with respect and kindness, though that last option confuses and terrifies me as much as these changes my body is going through (I'm "perspiring" and becoming "interested in girls", which believe me is very unsettling when you're 40.) Does it matter? The plan works for me, and it can work for a select bunch of y'all. Here's what I know:

The cities to be hit are:

Seattle
Austin
Sacramento
Boston
Altanta
Chicago
San Francisco
Las Vegas
Denver
The Portland of Oregon

If you're in or near one of those, you might wanna stop by. There's supposed to be a "Can't Stop the Signal" page on this website (I don't know where it is -- hey, I remembered my damn password, doesn't that buy me any cred?) There should be more info there soon about how to get in, bringing peeps into the fold, I think there's even competetions and stuff. (All I know is I have exactly 20 Brownie points. I answered ONE triv Q and got it wrong. Forget cred. I have no cred.) Now a couple of us might just creep into one of those major metropolitan multiplexes to see if anyone does show up, so remember: swearing in Chinese ONLY.

All right. This will please the fans and satisfy the employers of Joss Whedon, so I must stop as my arm-lasers are getting tired. I politely thank you for your attention.

Should be fun.

-j.

Awww... Sacramento and San Fransisco?? I live in Southern California and those cities are like an 8 hour drive from where I live. Oh well, I guess I'd have to wait till Sept 30th like anyone else.

I really had my hopes up there for a sec but still its nice to hear from Joss. Love that man's sense of humor.

I'm just hoping it shows up at the nearest base in an extremely timely manner in the fall.

Sigh.

Hi everybody,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm not really much of a message board person, either, so I probably will just continue lurking after this, too. But, I do love Firefly and all things Joss the appropriate and prerequisite amount to post here. :)

But anyway, this is obviously an exciting and shiny turn of events, but I can't seem to find any websites selling tickets to the preview screening on May 5th in the Boston area! Also, I can't seem to indentify which theater it's playing at. If anyone learns this stuff, it would be much appreciated if they'd share!

Thanks muchly,

You can find the link off the official firefly site, or at cantstopthesignal.com. Unfortunately, the Boston link takes you to a Fandango page that just says "Unable to process ticket request." Still trying to figure out if that means "sold out" or "not on sale yet".

Well this is utterly frustrating. I saw this posting by Joss this morning. I hop online and get the ticket info for Chicago. I call their number. I suffer through the LONG LONG phone system until I get to the final movie option for May the 5th called "special advance preview". I choose 2 adult tickets. I enter card info. I'm right at the end....the advance preview will be mine!!!!

Yea Chicago is sold out. I've been doing some math in these past 10 minutes after I stopped fuming about missing my window and this is what I concluded.

My post was time stamped at 4:39. This translates to 9:39am Indianapolis time. (same as chicago time currently)

Haken started this thread at 21:25. This translates into 2:25am Indianapolis/Chicago Time. Another site indicates Joss made his inital announcement at 2-ish AM Indiana time.

Looking above on the tread I see that Oxyopia posted at 2:35(7:35am) that Chicago was open. At 4:14 (9:14am) we were informed that chicago had closed.

So the translation of all that data is this: At 2:00am the call went out that the advance viewing was available but most of us were sleeping since it's a work week. Then at 8:00am browncoats across Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin arrived at their places of employment to find in their e-mail boxes the message from Joss kindly forwarded by the offical Serenity Movie site. They(and I) stopped everything they(I) were doing and rushed to get tickets. In my case the door closed on me...RIGHT...as I was calling. What is even more frustrating to me is that I actually came to work early today but had an issue that took 90 minutes to resolve. I missed my chance in those 90 minutes.

It's frustrating but also bittersweet because I know that a full theater of browncoats will prove the worth of Firefly to Universal. Joss said himself in his post that he and others might secret themselves into the showings to watch the fanfare, though I doubt Chicago will garner attention. I would suspect California first then perhaps Boston. I just finished attending the Star Wars Convention here in Indianapolis this past weekend where about 1500 people dressed in all sorts of great great costumes. I wonder if anyone could create good looking firefly costumes for May the 5th? To see the rabid fanfare that Star Wars got last weekend placed on Firefly, now THAT would impress Universal. For those of you seeing the movie May the 5th in either California or Boston, now is your greatest chance to strike a personal victory for us all because the people of power will be seceretly watching.

For the rest of you reading this that got tickets as well, I'm with you in spirit. On Sept 30 I'll see you on the other side.

Do not fear me. Ours is a peaceful race, and we must live in harmony.

Thursday night at 10pm - can't bring the kids they are too little for the movie, but too big to not know whats going on and sleep through it. No sitter will work that late on a Thurdsay. Yes, I take full responsibility for prematurely saying that Boston was sold out. I got myself some tickets not too long ago. Hope this doesn't mess too many people up.

For the record, though, you couldn't even get in contact with the theater via phone (believe me, I tried)...so I think at least some of the blame should fall on their side.

I know exactly how you feel. I was prepared to visit an atm May 5th and get wads upon wads of money and head to the theater in hope of bribing a ticket out of someone.

I'm still keeping that plan B in reserve. I think I'll see if I can pick up my tickets from the theater tomorrow just so they won't have too long to think about cancelling my order.

Well, something else actually took place regarding this. Yesterday AM (PT), there was a post up on the movie site. By the header etc. it was clearly an accident.

However, it contained the essential information about the screenings, and enough folks saw it to start looking around.
