I saw an article about that today that was suggesting Gina Torres, Michelle Rodriguez, and Archie Panjabi would be good for it.

Got any ideas?

I think Matt Lanter would be great...

Always good to hear there is still interest in Star Trek, but I never pay to watch TV unless it is to buy a DVD set to own. If it is successful, then maybe it will come to mainstream.

It's odd that you should say that yet post a link that brings you to Amazon where you have to pay to view what you tried to watch at imdb.com.

What gives?

We met Robert April back in 1974 when he was about to retire,

however, the effects of traveling into the negative universe in "The Counter-Clock Incident" made him and his wife young again and gave them a chance to live their lives again. They decided to use the transporter to go back to their real age because they couldn't imagine their lives being any better than the first time.

This linked story indicates they want to infuse "dramatic contemporary themes" into scripts.
This seems like a losing proposition. Back when Star Trek and MASH aired and twisted their libtard concepts into the storylines, it was viable because there was no alternative source of news or ideas, and Uncle Wally was both corrupt and dictatorial.

Now that algore has created the interwebs for we to ooze, there are plenty of sources, sourcing, and point of view of news and contemporary themes.

The sci-fi stories should stick with sci-fi.

Other than the rooting for the underdog and David vs Goliath themes, does anybody think Firefly ventured into contemporary theme land? 2002 would have been good time to reflect upon 9/11 or the Gulf War, terrorism. I don't recall that happening, and I loved the episodes and the scripts and portrayals - all of them.

IMdB allows you to make a list of films and TV programs you have seen or liked. That it associated with Amazon means nothing to me. I have never used the service. I am simply listing the films I like. I own a lot of them and some I've seen either on broadcast TV or a website that shows them for free.

I guess a teaser for Star Trek: Discovery was just released.
The protagonist is the First Officer, Number One, of the title spaceship.
Jason Isaacs is the Captain.
Rainn Wilson is Mudd, whuch is the character in the original series which referenced this part of future history, but was never explored in story.
This series apparently takes place 10 years prior to the Original Series.

Yep, and those 2 aren't even the prime protagonist, so it sounds interesting to me as well. But it is too bad they don't want me to see it.
If they get it to DVD I should be able to enjoy it - but this thread is already a little old, they've been working on this a while.

Looks like Jason Isaacs has had some work done...

I'm guessing the trailer Captain gets killed in the pilot and is replaced by Isaacs.
Which of course creates the central conflict since the main character feels she should have gotten the command.

I'm a little interested, but not enough to pay for the CBS sub service.

Wait a gorram minute.
This STD is reportedly set more than a generation before TOS, or now the 2009 JJ Reboot. According to the Reboot, Spock is about half a generation older than Kirk, IIRC - Spock in school when Kirk was born.
So Spock has an adopted sister, half generation or more older than him, and he never knew about her?
Was this written during a writer's strike?

Maybe they need a Vulcan ... for clear-thinking & encyclopedic recall.
Nimoy croaked, curse the cigarettes, & was too olde now anyways. But
that doesn't explain a) the sister has to be older than him, & anyways,
b) There are lots of Vulcans; the new one doesn't even have to be
related to him ... & can have a different personality.

Yeah, even Brent Spiner, 68, isn't an ageless android.

Hmmm. So they're going to have a Vulcan, will they want an android too?
I'd like a centaur & don't think I've seen one since Disney's Fantasia.
I know! ... A friendly, sentient Spider. That would be ... new.

My understanding is she's not a Vulcan. She's a human who was adopted by Spock's Dad. Also, I read she can do the Vulcan death grip. What's that garbage? If they can just teach that to anybody why not teach all of star fleet? Seems like a valuable move to know.

I vaguely recall Kirk complaining to Spock, "I wish you'd teach me that."

Spock, "I have tried, Captain."

Therefore, Spock's adopted sister must be a very gifted human.

I understand when making a movie based on a book you have to make allowances, but this version of Trek appears to have ignored any established norms about the franchise.

StarTrek seems to have died for me when it became less relevant and other giants and ideas came along, Farscape, Stargate, Babylon-5, Firefly, The Mandalorian ... Star Trek suddenly had less to say

Although I hear Some episodes of Picard were ok, the old Hollywood seems to also suffer from SJW politik Left vs Right madness

The weirdness of 'Black Mirror' might be more relevant today and 'The Orville' better comedy and fun, sometimes captured of the original fun elements of Trek
