Fox's 20 pilots for next year:

http://www.thefutoncritic.com/cgi/newswire.cgi?id=6897

Nothing jumps out at me. Nothing genre I don't think.

Looks like Fox is breaking no new ground.

Apart from the tokenistic placement of two asians, a couple older persons and less than a handful of african americans, that page of photos demonstrates the least creative and least diverse casting I've ever seen. The new faces all looked the same to me: young, white and pretty.

I had to read the show descriptions to tell the shows apart! -mattro

That looks like the most Craptacular line-up ever.

Doesn't look like too many original ideas, but you're judging shows based on the ethnicity of the casting now? Buffy and Angel both premiered with all-white main casts and they both worked out pretty well...

CYBERSNARK

It's a typical Fox lineup. In order we have:

-Drama
-Cop show (with David Boreanaz)
-Shameless ripoff of another network's show (Revelations), with Elizabeth (Kate from Angel) Rohm.
-Cop show
-Teen sitcom
-Family sitcom
-Medical(?) drama
-Legal drama
-Drama
-Sitcom (with Nick Brendan)
-Sitcom
-Cop show
-Sitcom
-Sitcom
-Sitcom
-Vaguely interesting show with Dominic (John Doe) Purcell that won't last a season.
-Sitcom
-Drama
-Sitcom
-Drama

Nice to see a Brendan getting work, ditto for Purcell. Note that Purcell's show is, once again, the only one that can't be easily cubbyholed, and seems to suggest intelligent writing. One guess what time-slot Prison Break will air in.

Good point. Hopefully my observation didn't come across as "boycott these shows, now!" but I was definitely prejudging. Any of the pilots have the potential to be very well written/acted, etc. AND the likelihood of us seeing even half of these shows on our TVs is very low so complaining at this point in the process is silly.

But back to your point, as much as I LOVE and worship the Mutant Enemy shows, a similar diversity complaint was always in the back of my mind for early Buffy: it was mostly lily-white (and supposed to take place in California one of the most diverse states!). Buffy got better in the casting department during seasons six and seven. Angel was a bit more diverse in general and Firefly got it mostly right from the get go(though swearing in an asian language is no substitute for casting asian castmembers/guest stars).

I be nitpicky. I apologize if I brought anyone down.

Don't see anything on that list that's even worth a look.

I'm looking forward to The Inside, because Tim Minear is amazing (and aren't Jane Espenson and David Fury working on it too?) plus, Adam Baldwin!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Right there w/ you Lissa. I will be checking out The Inside even though it is showing on the Devil Fox network. I love Tim's stuff, and who could pass up seeing Adam on the small screen again.

Bones looks like it may be trying to draw on the Angel fans by casting David Boreanaz. I thought DB had said he was done w/ TV and wanted to do movies. Huh. I guess that didn't work out too well. Looks like a carbon copy of CSI. No thanks.

I only read the names of the shows, nothing more.

From just the names, none of them sound even remotely interesting.

I mean, come on, "New Car Smell'???

Then again, I hated the title "That 70's Show" but I did like the series...
