A local tv station ran Phantom Menace yesterday. As Anakin ran shouting out of Watto's shop after being given the day off I remembered my favorite quote in regards to that movie:

"Darth Vader doesn't yippee."
--my mom, while turning the tv off to end the pain.

Just think:

"Never underestimate the power of the force. Yippee!"

"Asteroids do not concern me, general. I want that ship! Yippee!"

"Join me, Luke. We can overthrow the emperor and rule the galaxy as father and son. Yippee!"

well, it's not Phantom Menace related, but Attack of the Clones did sell one thing really well for me on that the guy playing Anakin could really be Luke Skywalker's father. Several times he hit Luke's petulance and whininess just perfectly. this next movie has to sell me that he could also be Darth Vader.

(note--this isn't a critique of Mark Hammill, I thought Luke was supposed to be whiny at the start of the first movie)

A felt a little of my soul die when I realized that Lucas probably intended that Vader's TIE fighter spinning out of control to be linked with Anakin's spinning the naboo fighter in Phantom Menace.

Why oh why did Artoo not evacuate the atmo from that fighter?!?!?!

BTW, it's now a LOT FREAKIN' FUNNIER to watch eps. 4,5, and 6 with the mindset that Artoo is telling EVERYONE he runs into that Darth is Luke's dad and that Leia is his sister and that 3po is just never translating.

R2: "The hyperdrive of the Millenium Falcon was disabled by the Empire. Oh, and Darth is your dad, Leia"
3PO: "Come back here and put my leg back on! (or whatever that line was)"
