Jane, the writer called Jane!

Okay, I'm not going any further with that idea.

But honestly, I just got my copy of _Finding Serenity_, and my wife and I are really enjoying all of Jane Espenson's introductory comments. So then today we were laughing our butts of to a Buffy re-run ("Triangle," in which Anya's ex shows up in the form of a rampaging troll who makes Klingon's look refined), and I said, "I wonder who wrote this one?" At the same time, my wife and I said, "It feels like Jane Espenson!"

I checked my handy Buffy guide and saw that we were right.

So who else here thinks that Jane Espenson rocks?

I am also a huge Jane Espenson fan!
She has written some wonderful episodes on Buffy & Angel...
I think my favorite of hers is 'Superstar'
but she is always a blast,
and some wonderful stories in comic books
(a couple in the 'Tales of the Vampire' Joss put out last year)

and I got to meet her last January when I attended Tom Lenk's play...
there were a lot of celebrities in the audience, but the only one I couldn't resist bothering was Jane Espenson!

Well, Shindig's always been MY favorite episode, so I'd say I count as an Espenson fan! I have to say it took Finding Serenity for me to figure out really who she is - and then I saw that she's on the DVD extras, too. Have to say that her episode of The Inside was a great one!

One of the things I love about her is she's obviously a mudder... er, fan like so many of us. On the commentary for her Angel episode Rm w/a Vu -- the one where Cordelia rents the haunted apartment -- she talks about naming the ghost. As a new character on the show, the ghost got some extra scrutiny, and she really wanted him to be named Dennis, but didn't want to tell anyone why. The reason was, the episode would air roughly around the time of Star Wars Episode I, and she really wanted someone to refer to the ghost as, "The Phantom Dennis."

Oh, that's great!

I know we often talk about what a genius Joss Whedon is--and rightly so--but part of his genius is getting such brilliant writers as Jane Espenson, Marty Noxon, David Fury, and of course the incredible Tim Minear to work with him. In many ways, *they* are my Big Damn Heroes.

Without Jane, we'd barely have ever seen Jonothan on Buffy. Thats reason enough. As it is, my copy of finding Serenity is being imported as we speak, but I'll just assume she's awesome in it.

Lets not forget her work on Gilmore Girls and The Inside (damn fox, damn them all to hell!)... we can forget about her work on charmed.... but The Inside was a masterpeice thriller, completely unlike anything that's made it to tv, and probably my favorite episodes were hers.
