Well, I personally see them as sort of equal overall, but some on this board *cougroundedh* seem to feel otherwise. Was Hulk better? It certainly was more interesting and original. Am I letting a lot slide with SR just 'cause of Brando, and the 'S'? It's quite possible....

Hehe you had to do it didn't ya? ;)

There's plenty of stuff in Hulk that could have done with cutting/changing, but the utterly incoherent plot of SR is what drags it so far down for me.

It had a plot. Huh. Is that better than a script?

Hulk was awful. I could barely sit through it. Come on Chris, you know it was terrible. At least there were a handful of crazy Lex scenes in SR. Neither make my top superhero movie list...okay, hero movies don't often work well in general...but Hulk was way worse than SR.

My initial feeling was that I hated it. But now in thinking about it, it wasn't THAT bad, just not what I wanted. Same with SR, just not what I wanted. I come to these flicks with ALL this baggage, and sometimes I just have to drop it.
Really, Hulk wasn't as bad as you remember, was it?
If you see it without expectations, it's a different experience.

I did indeed have a few expectations, but not many. I've come to not expect much from superhero movies. They so rarely work out well. You know? The last XMen movie, even BB was hard to watch in spots. Most often it's the director, but I've seen a few bad scripts as well. Maybe I'm jaded. Gah. I don't want to be jaded! I worry about WW. I love WW. I sure hope Joss knows what he is doing...

I know I'm in the minority ,but I loved The Hulk.Ang Lee's use of color was amazing .The acting was well done for a superhero movie & I enjoyed the effects. My kids loved it too,.

WW is my alltime favorite superhero & I'm thrilled that Joss ia at the helm. He'll do right by Diana .I have faith.

Also, steel yourself for Nick Knolte hamming it up big style at the end ;)

I was kind of surprised people complained about the Hulk being too big. I always thought he was supposed to be huge, and the CGI was dead on. Maybe if I'd watched the TV serial I'd have expected him to look like Ferrigno instead...

It's the same with 28 Days Later. People hate it, but it's one of my favorite movies. Maybe I just have bad taste.

I too have come to not expect much from superhero movies and Superman Returns did fail to impress.. the one superhero movie which I think is an exception to the trend is Batman Returns. I really liked it and believe it sets the benchmark.

I didnt like Hulk.. even though Eric Bana rocks.

People hate 28 Days Later? Who are these wrong individuals and where must I turn up with red eyes to show them the error of their ways?

And Hulk was terrible. I had high expectations initially but by the time I saw it, I knew it was likely to be dreadful. It was, committing the cardinal crime of any movie: being boring. Some nice action sequences (and some poor ones) but ultimately, no. Just no.

Superman Returns, I enjoyed. Maybe could have done with a little more action but it's tricky when you have someone who is pretty much either invulnerable or as weak as a kitten. You need to give him an equal then things get interesting.

Still, Spacey + Posey were great fun to watch and the kid wasn't too annoying either.

Having not seen Superman Returns I can't really comment, however I suspect the best thing about it may have been the fact that they sponsored the RED BULL F1 racing team during the Monaco Grand Prix, which wonderfully set-up the scene stealing image of David Coulthard going up to recieve his trophy on the third step of the podium wearing his Superman CAPE!!! Pure genuis!!!

As for the Hulk - well watching my nephew play with those giant green hands that went on sale may have been worth a film I suppose....

I haven't even seen SR and I can already tell you you're off your nut. Hulk was worse than Dare Devil, a feat I never thought could be accomplished. If SR holds true, even a little bit, to the glory that was Superman I & II, than it will be better hands down.

Oh Joss is a different animal to most of the Superhero genre directors.

They're all trying to be auteur and the vanity that demands effects the final product. Have you noticed how during a films release there's always an interview with the director aswell as the actors. What's up with that?! I like my directors in the background, enigmatic and shadowy and mysterious. I don't want them being all rockstarish and in yar face!!

Bring back the old days when all you had were the actors being glammed up!

I want directors directing! Not slicing together an over expensive business card wrapped in an ego!

Which is why I’m so pumped about WW. I think I talk about it more than I talked Serenity (not in my blog since that’s pretty much dead). When Hulk came out, part of the draw was Ang Lee. However, he got caught up in the swirl of himself just like the media and ‘experts’ did. It was too much I think. Perhaps that’s what some of the allure of Joss is...that everyman quality he has.

Wonderwoman isn't a show I remember terribley well TWG save for my bro doing dainty swirls in imitation - I don't remember that much about it. However if it is to be given the Joss treatment... Then count me in! Since Buffy and now River in Serenity I can't get enough of female action heros! I think Joss will pretty much re-invent the character to suit his narrative, yet retain enough for the hardened fan... I mean c'mon when has he let us down?
Alien Resurection aside (which I think was as much about production interferrence as much as a strained script) the man is faultless :D

Now we can't have a ConfussedChrisisall can we? :D Basically Calhoun prefers Batman Begins and I prefer Batman Returns - but then I haven't yet seen Batman Begins so I'm ill informed to offer an opinion really.... I suppose my indifference is down to the fact that the superhero genre is very weak! I imagine that looking back on this present slew of superhero films in years to come, they'll be a lot of crud that we'll be looking back on. Honestly I think much of it is laughable even now, in the future I think they'll be riducled in the same way the 50's B movies were.

Well, I just watched Batman Returns last night, and it was great. You know when he flies? It was a stretch,(but it happens in a Gotham that seems a little skewed from our own reality- which is one of the reasons the film works so well for me) but I could buy it. Now when Batman flies sort of the same way in Batman Begins (a movie that tries REAL hard to be ultra-realistic for a super-hero film), I just said "No way!!! Couldn't happen!!!".
AND THAT'S THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE. BR has it's own reality, BB tries to fit him into our real world, but keep the unrealistic fantasy elements intact.

That's how I see it anyway...as always, your bat-milage may vary.

Hey is it wrong that my mum has a copy of Batman Begins and I just can't be arsed to go and borrow it from her...

...I think this is the point at the moment with superhero action films. I'm done with them. There is a saturation point.
