Rewatched Chronicles of Riddick Sun nite. Really liked that movie. It's quite a cliff hanger where it left off. Does anyone know how the story continues ? If there's any further development? Mainly, what are the chances we'd see another movie ?

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Twohy and Diesel are still optimistic that there'll be more, Chronicles was planned as the first in a trilogy and the scripts for the next two exist somewhere. There's still a chance they'll appear someday, though there's nothing in production as of yet.

Thanks Chronic. I recall hearing talk of a trilogy, and wasn't sure if Pitch Black was intended to be part of that or not. It's odd, because when Pitch Black first came out, I had no interest in the movie what so ever. Then I saw it on dvd, and WOW! The whole story of Riddick has really grown on me.

With SERENITY's future in doubt, and the rest of SciFi on the big screen looking a tad barren, I'm hoping that 1 or even 2 more movies from Twohy and Diesel are headed our way.

I loved both movies. I also think they did a horrible job of tying the two titles together. PitchBlack 2 would have been bad, but I still come across people that don't realise Chronicles was a sequel...

I saw Chronicles recently and thought it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Shame really, because Pitch Black was decent enough.

It was every action movie cliche rolled it one and shoehorned into a dodgy sci-fantasy plot. The acting was atrocious across the board (except for the Dame ;) ). The script was painful, with some of the clunkiest one-liners I've ever heard. The effects weren't anywhere near as impressive as advertised. Oh, and the word 'Necromonger' was used a lot without anyone bursting out laughing.

I wasn't too thrilled about Pitch Black either, the 1st time. I mistakenly thought it was just a rough remake of 'Alien'. Much later, when I rewatched it, I was like " Wow! Good flick!" I payed more attention to the characters and how they dealt with the situation facing each. Loved it so much, I bought the DVD. After renting the short animee , and buying Chronicles, I'm hooked on the whole Riddick story. I want more!

I saw an interview with Vin Diesel, a long time after Pitch Black was made, where he said that he was starting to work on a Trilogy of movies with the Character from Pitch Black. I think it was on "Late Night with David Letterman" and Dave said that it was a bad idea.

They did release a half hour animated straight to DVD story and it takes place just after the events in Pitch Black. It is called "The Chronicles Of Riddick: Dark Fury". The Story is by David Twohy, The Director of The Chronicles Of Riddick. Which I didn't like but you can now buy the Riddick Trilogy which contains Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury and The Chronicles of Riddick and it makes me think the Studio gave up on The Riddick Film Series.

I'm not sure I thought it was unique, but for me it seemed to be pure Greek Tragedy, with all the great story themes used through the ages - Fight for Freedom/Capture, the journey/escape from Hell, the final confrontation with the gods (or god, in this case) and the messiah-like overtheme of the outsider/saviour from the wilderness. I liked it at first, then I really liked it once I had thought about it a while.

Then again, I like "Joe Versus the Volcano" for the same reasons.

Either Dave was being sarcastic or he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

It was the failure of the Riddick animated movie, along with the Van Helsing animated dud, that led to Universal cancelling the planned animated Serenity straight to DVD flick, which instead became Those Left Behind, the comic book.

I think that Vin needs another big hit before they commit to another Riddick.

PB and TCOR are two of my favorite movies, and despite its lack of popularity I found TCOR fascinating. Unfortunately I think its problems stem from being too similar to the Borg in Star Trek, although the religious theology aspect was really interesting. I just wish they had gone further with that. I also think that they should have maybe waited and killed the Lord Marshall in the third movie. Apparently they were going for a Lord of the Rings trilogy type deal with PB being "The Hobbit." I really admired the special effects, and many of the lines.

For some odd reason the character of the Purifier really inspired a lot of feelings for me, and I think I can really relate to his situation. His final lines, "We all began as something else. I've done unbelievable things, in the name of a faith that was never my own," were just beautiful. Overall I think the film actually represents a lot we experience in life, often being confronted with the choice to convert or die. The fighting scenes were also really cool, and I wish it was possible to do those things in real life.

Oh, and as for the sequels, supposedly Vin bought the rights to the movie and is considering working with David on the trilogy. If anything does in fact take place, however, it won't be until at least around 2008. Supposedly they want to go for a full R-rating, which should make it better. I just hope they go through with this, because I couldn't stand to see this great movie be given up on like FF/Serenity.

I don't know if it's just me, but I'm somewhat bummed on the prospect of anything interesting coming out via Sci Fi. TCOR was about the only thing I can think of which left me looking forward to a sequel. As a big Tolkien fan, PJ being dismissed by NL on The Hobbit has got me a bit worried. I'd prefer it be done right, or not at all. And I think it would be a terrible shame if Ian McKellen coudln't follow up his role as Gandalf, brief though it may be for that story.

And with any follow up to SERENITY looking a bit iffy, at best, I'm kinda in a Sci Fi waste land.

I know what you mean, and for some reason I've been caught in this little sci-fi/fantasy obsession for the past few weeks and don't really want to watch anything else. I'd really like to see more of TCOR, but I fear it will always be a victim of its shaky start and never be able to realize its full potential. Too bad Peter Jackson has been dismissed, and I think it's really important for him to direct it to make it more seamless. I'd really like to see more LOTR films, but I don't see how that could be done, and the originals were quite a feat. Gandalf would definitely have been an interesting character to get more introduced to, and it seems he and Frodo have had a good past together.

Well they had the Dark Fury Animated show, but that was widely criticized from what I'm told. Also it apparently didn't sell well and you could only get it bundled with the other Riddick movies. You would think that the Riddick character would be someone many people would identify with because he represents this sort of bad-a$$ rebel hero who's had it hard and now wants someone's head for it. :)

I remember seeing the adverts for Chronicles and thinking it looked amazing, so i went out and bought me the 3 dvd set at HMV (the two movies and the anime), Pitch Black was awesome, I have to agree with Grounded on the flaws of it though, even the graphics didn't impress as much as the adverts did for some reason, but i still enjoyed it.

Actually I've never heard of Alexa Davalos outside of Riddick. I think she played the part well, although I heard they initially wanted to recast Rhianna Griffith but she apparently wasn't "tough enough" according to Vin's standards. I actually liked all of the actors like Karl Urban, Linus Roache, Judi Dench, and Colm Feore. I

Hey everyone! I've only just joined this site, i have no idea how to get a good photo or a little quotey thing, BUT i had to leave a message to say i watched the chronicles of riddick again lastnight + i just love it.

I really want more, i want to know what he will do now! I hated what happened to kiera/jack, i'd kinda forgotten (blocked it out) so it was a shock all over again!!

It's such a good movie, i love all the original ideas, the fact that riddick is this furion dude who seems to be the last , or at least one of the last of his kind, and the necromongers are kewl. Helion looked amezin and the crematorian planet was such a good idea. That scene when they run from the heat wave is still so awesome.

Anyhoo, i was looking thru the empire mag (with alien vs predator requiem on) and it said somehting about a new riddick film.

Is it ever gonna happen? I want it so much!!:o)

From wiki:

In a March 8, 2006 article on Comingsoon.net, it was reported that Vin Diesel claimed that a sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick was in the works. According to him, he had already written a storyline that covered a trilogy which began with the Chronicles of Riddick. Another article on Comingsoon.net written on March 11, 2005 reports that Vin Diesel states that Chronicles 2 was to deal with The Underverse, while Chronicles 3 was to conclude the series with a return to Furya.

EDIT: Since we haven't seen anything since and since Vin's star has faded I'd bet we aren't going to see anything. According to wiki it made $115 mil off of a budget of $105, probably not enough to sustain studio interest.

STORYMARK

I was pretty split on COR. I really like the character, and the plot was fine (even if it is essentially Conan in space). I hated a great deal of the production design (mostly the Necromonger stuff), and most of the villains. Even though I like Colm Feore, Thandie Newton and Ron Urban as actors, I really didn't like their characters in the movie. I did like Tooms, and would hope he'd be a part of a sequel, should it happen.
