This is a topic very dear to my heart. I love sci-fi B movies from the 50's & 60's....got about 200 movies of this genre...and they never fail to entertain.

LOGAN'S RUN I could see being remade successfully. Today I heard even worse news. That 20th Century Fox (not F*X) is planning a remake of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. I am so hoping that this never gets off the ground because that it one of the most seminal sci-fi movies ever. It should never be touched.

And why would anyone consider STAR TREK IV: THE UNDICOVERED COUNTRY to be cheesy? It's a great political thriller/allegory that perfectly wraps up the legacy of the original STAR TREK cast.

Getting back on topic, I don't know if I have one for each decade, but a few I found cheesy were IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE and IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND (the former was based on a Ray Bradbury story, the latter was considered to be an influence on the original ALIEN). THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN had a really great concept and the end was just philosophically beautiful, but the sfx at the time and the cause of the shrinkage (pesticides) kind of made it a motza ball.

As per sci-fi from the 70's, THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH was a bit of a mind-fuck. At the end, I had no idea what the whole thing was about and there were a few moments that made me laugh out loud. But in regards to a purely cheesy sci-fi flick, I don't know. Even though a lot of them were aesthetically funny and slightly campy, they were wrapped around a lot of good themes and ideas, so it's hard to choose.

One sci-fi movie of this decade that I thought was just unbearable in it's stupidity was THE FORGOTTEN. That Julianne Moore flick about the woman trying to find her lost son. You want to talk about a complete waste of time, money, energy and talent, that's it right there.

They could NEVER successfully re-capture that 70's ME-generation excess mentality...they tried to some extent with The Island, and it was only marginally successful at best.

Well, the 70s are the 70s. I know the 40s-50s are supposed to be the golden age of SciFi, but in my opinion, the 50s has nothing on the 70s. From The Planet of the Apes (1968) to E.T.(1982) some of the greatest science fiction films the world has ever seen were made.

That being said, I could totally role with a remake of Logan’s Run, perhaps one more closely following the book.

Really though, I don't consider Logan's Run to be cheesy scifi. It’s a classic, somewhat lost in the Star Wars fanfare, though.

Flash Gordon is my all time favorite cheese-ball SF flick.

Coming in non-SF would hafta be Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man.

Yeah, it was called Otherworld, and it was a tv show. Cheesy though it may have been, it was the foundation of extremely popular Sliders and Stargate. It gets lost because of the popularity of these shows, which suggests to me that the idea was great, but the execution, not so much.

Lots of scifi TV shows are rife with cheese, in the Finn household Zenon: The Girl of the 21 Century is a requisite major.

I loved 'Stargate' the film. Hated the series. Absolutely hated it.

Ooh...link. Cheesy sci-fi - 'Soldier' Kurt Russell had about ninety words of dialogue in the whole film. But there were some fun 'Blade Runner' refs.

...although Journey To The Center Of The Earth is a legendary classic.

I kind of feel the same way about FIREFLY, since I see a lot of popular sci-fi shows take some of the stuff that FIREFLY did first and run with it further. I sometimes see BATTLESTAR GALACTICA as a humorless version of FIREFLY.
