Hey All

I was wondering if there are any summer series that are either on or will be on that you guys are interested in seeing.

Not counting burn-offs for STUDIO 60, STANDOFF, TRAVELER and DRIVE, there are actually a few series I'm eagerly awaiting. Oddly, of all of those, only one is a network series and (forgive me for saying this), a reality show. It's that show called ON THE LOT. Everything else I detest (that PIRATE MASTER just looks like a cross between a Survivor knock-off and an attempt to cash in on POTC), but because I am a film student, I can actually sympathize with the contestants and their filmmaking plight. Plus, this is the closest thing to a shorts anthology that you'll see on network TV.

Everything else I want to see is actually on cable. There's the return of BIG LOVE and the 4th season of ENTOURAGE (it's a bit weird that the 3rd season finale and the 4th season premiere are only separated by a week), as well as the new HBO shows JOHN FROM CINCINATTI and FLIGHT OF THE CONCORDS. And then there's the return of both RESCUE ME and THE 4400 for their 4th seasons.

And then in August, SCI-FI is supposed to be premiering this new version of FLASH GORDON ala BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Which kind of intrigues me. Well, any sci-fi show, even if it's a remake, intrigues me. Seeing as how both BATTLESTAR and WHO have proved that remakes of classic sci-fi shows arn't necessarily a bad thing, I'm eager to see how Flash fares...IN THE 21ST AND A TENTH CENTURY. (Sorry, had to fit in a Duck Dodgers reference).

So ON THE LOT, BIG LOVE, JOHN FROM CINCINATTI, FLIGHT OF THE CONCORDS, RESCUE ME, THE 4400 and FLASH GORDON. Anyone interested in these outside the last two eps of DRIVE?

On the Lot: I liked some of the shorts in On the Lot, but I didn't see much talent out of the women in the show. At least not for comedy...maybe they will improve in some other genres. The special effects guy is amazing in what he can do and how quickly he can do it. My biggest problem with the show is that they copy the whole American Idol formula, but American Idol (even though I personally don't like that show either) can get away with doing an hour long results show and stringing things out with saying what each judge said about each person and then doing the whole "you are safe" or "we'll find out after the break". With On the Lot, fans aren't hooked yet, and they will drive away viewers with that schlock. The ratings are already below "Drive". I don't know what they would put in its place, but if they keep up stretching 15 minutes worth of show to an hour, its going to get canceled.

Eureka (Sci-fi network) is coming back this summer, so I look forward to that. I think Dexter (Showtime) may be back sometime this Summer. I put Dexter's first season in the same level as Heroes and Lost. It was absolutely tremendous, and if you missed out, you should definitely try and rent it. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Although it is kind of geared more towards a younger audience, I enjoyed Kyle XY (ABC Family, and possibly ABC). Kyle XY is almost the exact same premise as John Doe was, except it is a teenager instead of an adult, and he gets taken in by a family, and they help try to raise him, and figure out more about himself.

I really like the 4400, and will definitely catch that one. I'll give Flash Gordon a try, but my expectations aren't too high for it. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised like I was for Dr. Who. I don't know about John From Cincy or Flight of the Concords, but I'll look them up and see what they are about. Not interested in Big Love or Rescue Me.

I think that for ON THE LOT, now that they've whittled it down to 15, I think they'd have the two hour show on Monday, and then the results show is only going to be half an hour where one person gets voted off each week. I think that this show is just going through the typical growing pains of a first season of a reality show. I think once the show settles into a groove, it'll improve exponentially.

I have in fact seen the first season of DEXTER and agree that it is an incredible show. Does the impossible in that when you see Michael C. Hall, you completely forget about SIX FEET UNDER and that his character shift is almost schizophrenic. Plus it's nice to see a more vulnerable side of Julie Benz. Darla might have been her calling card role, but it definitely type casted her.

(On a side note, I wonder if there's a Dexter/Buffy crossover fanfic out there where Dexter meets Darla. Would be interesting.)

And how could you not be into BIG LOVE and RESCUE ME? The former is about polygamy, and with last seasons finale of the family exposed, I'm itching to see the fallout. And the latter has Denis Leary. DENIS FUCKING LEARY!!! The guy's a genius. He's able to blend truly acerbic and dark humor with soul screaming tragedy without making it look hard. If you don't believe me, download an episode from Season 3 called "Zombie". It is without a doubt one of the funniest things you'll ever see on cable TV.

I too am looking forward to 'Eureka', woo hoo!! Also isn't 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' coming back this summer? I hope so, because that... is a funny show.

I'm big on the USA series, especially The 4400 and The Dead Zone. I was wondering though, is Psych coming back on? I know it got good reviews last season, so I hope they renew it.

I think PSYCH is coming back for the summer. Never saw the show myself.

As for DEXTER, it won't be back until October alongside MASTERS OF HORROR. Usually if a cable show is on for a specific time period, then it'll be on every consecutive year at around the same time. Like MASTERS always premieres right around Halloween. And SIX FEET UNDER always seemed to be on during the summer. Same with ENTOURAGE. So if something you like is on during the summer or beginning of the year, most likely it'll be on during then.
