Never watched this show, but I was just reading the Wikipedia entry...

...and, being a Space Buff, I couldn't help but balk at the basic premise: The main character, living in Seattle in 2003, is killed by a falling toilet seat from the de-orbiting Mir space station.

Apparently, nobody did a lick of research.

:exasperated sigh: Just go watch the show already! You have to suspend disbelief on a lot more issues than that in this show, but it is sooooo worth it.

I agree, this show ranks right up there with Firefly in terms of quality entertainment. Sci-Fi is after all... Science FICTION.

It's defiantely far more enjoyable then Arrested Developement, and Mandy Patinkin rocks as Rube. The lead can sometimes be annoying with her monotone voice, and the other blonde makes me wish she'd stayed dead, but the well scripted episodes and A grade acting make up for the small annoyances.

But yes, it's an awesome show. Watched it while it was actually airing and was... irritated when it got cancelled. First season is *far* superior than the second, but both are well worth watching.

EDIT: Had to fix stuff, because apparently I'm functionally illiterate today.

I actually love both seasons. I love the resolution of some of the mystery surrounding Rube's background.

DLM is the only program I've ever watched where I laugh AND cry (sometimes even simultaneously) at each and every episode.

Although I know that some people do like knowing how things came to be, etc. for me it really ruins the 'magic' of the show to have things explained. And oh did they explain things in season 2. Which is why, IMO, season 2 is inferior to the first.
