The whole New Mexico thing was definitely messed up. But I wonder, since Lasciel is gone, will Harry eventually begin to calm down? Or has this become a permanent feature of his personality? I for one think Lash is gone for good. But I wonder how her presence will change Harry.

Harry's connection to the Outsiders is definitely of interest. I think they'll probably go into more depth in the next book.

I don't think Murphy will be the one to die (if indeed someone does die). I think the more likely candidate will be Thomas. I mean, if you really want to send Harry over the edge, kill his one remaining blood relative.

One whole year until the next book. Phooey.

Hey, I've been faithfully following the Sword of Truth series since I was 13, I don't mind waiting. I'm really loving this series.

I was going to use the Sword of Truth series to further illustrate my point but some of my posts were kind of long so I backed off. It was absolutely one of my favorite series. Started off great, some novels better than others, then things went downhill for me. The final straw was Pillars of Creation. The main characters, Richard and Kahlan were no where to be found until the very end of the book. I'd been having some suspicions that Goodkind was just dragging the series out, not knowing how to end it, and this book proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt. I couldn't bring myself to finish the series and probably never will. Hell, I don't know if the story is even over yet.

One of my fears with the Dresden story is that Butcher will go down this same path. The difference being he has left so many story arcs unfinished that it appears there is plenty of material for an extended series. Hopefully he won't lose his way over the next 10+ books.

Now that a lot of people are further in the books, I have a question:

Do you guys like the book-verse Bob or the TV-verse Bob?

Me personally, I like the book one better. Based on what I hear, the TV Bob is more with dry, British humor, and less with the lecherousness (is that a word?).

I would be hard pressed to pick between them, both have their good points. While book Bob has a rather juvenile sense of humor,(mainly sexual innuendo) TV Bob is much more sophisticated whens he jabs at Harry. I don't think they're written that much differently to be honest, the logistics of TV simply won't allow for a talking skull, hence the full body apparition.

I was almost in tears when Bob was asking about the full nature of the Harry/Molly relationship. To paraphrase Harry, "She's not a sweet tart, pop tart, nor any sort of pastry". Good stuff.

Bob? I don't know. The TV version seems more... I like him more for the character. Spirit of knowledge and all, and I like him looking like a person. Bob's sex obsession actually gets rather old for me. I like it when he can be a little serious, but still have that biting humor.

Okay, finally was able to watch about a half-hour (had to leave for work) of the TV show. And while I still like book Bob better, TV version is pretty cool. And it does end up working out better (though I would have loved to see him banging his skull against the wall just once

).

I'll admit, I do have a lot of qualms about the show. Most are minor (his office, Morgan being a younger black man), some are major (Murphy being tall and having a daughter; I'm sorry, but those really screw up her characterization). However, the things they do get right are dead-on. Paul Blackthrone does a really amazing job with Harry. He sounds (or at least how I think he'd sound) and looks like him, and his mannerisms seem like they would be Harry's. So even though there are things that bother me, I'm excited about seeing the rest of the series.

I picture Harry with more ragged hair for some reason, and he's also described as kind of towering in his height, but I agree I really like the actor. Tall, brunette Murphy, though... bugs me a whole lot. I didn't much like her even before I read the books, actually. I didn't even realize she had a daughter(I really need to see more of the show). Much much much prefer book Murphy for a lot of reasons. She's just more of a badass in the books. Also cuter.
I think I remember the guy that was supposed to be Morgan. I wondered why he seemed kind of cold to Harry. They never explain that. There's a lot they don't really go into...
I know it's hard to make books into movies and preserve the storyline, but there's a lot more time in a series; you'd think they could give more backstory and maybe some of the complex plotlines over the course of a year. Boo. I still like the show, though. It's got potential.

I don't know if either of you have ever visited Jim Butcher's website but there are detailed explanations as to why the TV series is different from the books. Most of the information comes directly from Butcher so it's hard for me to be too upset.

As far as Harry's appearance my first exposure was through television so my perception is somewhat skewed. I really like the cover art for the books which were drawn by Christian McGrath. Check out his website for some great illustrations. His vision of Harry reminds me of Stephen King's Gunslinger. The books I bought from the SFBC have different cover art. The drawings aren't nearly as moody, instead they convey a sense of adventure.

I did read a quote about why the show is different. And while I understand, I just wish they would have put a little more effort into a few areas. But for the most part, I really enjoyed what I did see.
