STRANGEBIRD

The new trailer for "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" (I think it sounds better when you say it out loud) will debut on "Good Morning America" on Thursday, Feb. 14. It will also be attached to the movie "The Spiderwick Chronicles". Just thought I'd give a heads up to all the Indy fans among our little corner of the Browncoat community. I'm sure it will be popping up all over the internet in the coming days... and possibly hours if not already for you who frequent the shady back alleys of the net.

As we all know the fourth and possibly last, yet hopefully not, entry in the Indiana Jones movie series will hit theaters on May 22. Spielberg(Or someone anyway) has stated a teaser trailer was not released earlier so they could keep the plot a secret for as long as possible and since it was honestly not needed to build hype for the film.

I'll probably watch it on GMA. Either way It's my Mom's birthday tomorrow not to mention Valentine's Day so I doubt I'll be online as much as usual. Kinda funny the trailer debuts on my Mom's Birthday and the movie comes out two days after my own birthday... I know none of you care but I think it's an odd bit of coincidence.

It's just finally debuted online.

OMG, I want to see this movie now more than ever. They got it EXACTLY right. I think the moment that did it for me was when he tried to swing onto the vehicle, and then swings back and crashes into the other one, and goes "Damn, thought that was closer." As soon as I saw that, any doubt in my mind was erased. Almost 20 years later, and they haven't missed a beat.

I'm gonna watch it again.

I wasn't sure Harrison Ford could pull Indy off anymore, but like you the swing into the wrong truck/funny line got me cold!

Awesome!

Damn, I thought that was closer.

Too rutting funny.

I just hope that Shea Labeuf isn't the "next" Indiana Jones. That would seriously piss me off.

I think after this and old Rocky coming back out of retirement we need to rethink what out elderly are capable of. Just because you hurt all over and forget your meds if you don't use a timer doesn't mean you can't kick some ass.

Seriously though I never doubted Harrison Ford could still do action films. He's the best.

I'm interested in seeing just what role Shia Lebouef plays. Not certain he's Indy's son but I'd be willing to bet he's Marion's. This isn't a spoiler just crazy speculation. I have as much a clue as anyone else. Either way I think he'll work well. Mostly I just hope he does.

My daughter and I were talking about exactly that subject over supper tonight. We are guessing that he's Marion's son too, but is he Indys?
That's the question.

I think Shia will be just fine in the role, my kids tell me he was really good in Transformers.

Nope, FollowMal, I haven't seen it either so I guess we're both last! I think I'm in good company.

And I'm all in for the Indy movie, too! It looks like loads of fun!

We'll have to set a date to watch it, SaveWash and then come back and revive a Transformers thread and talk about it. LOL

My friend Debb was quite taken with it. She has good judgement... so I bet we'll enjoy it.

Ha, ha! Seriously, let me know if you decide on a date and I'll rent it. Weekends are best.

The new Teaser in all it's HD 480p glory for your very own downloading pleasure.

(Read below before clicking on link)
http://www.jurassicpunk.com/movies/indianajones4.shtml

Just came upon that. For someone like me with a slow dial up connection and a not so reliable one at that it really helps to be able to download a trailer. I can't even access the Official Indiana Jones Website. It's a mere 36mb and even with my connection it only takes just over an hour and fifty minutes to download. Sad I know.

Another good thing is someone with a video capable ipod or similar device could share this bit of neatness with others away from your computer.

EDIT!!! Important... if you do download it DO NOT read the list for the cast. It contains what may be a very mild spoiler... I'm not sure what to make of it myself but it pertains to my previous comment about Shia Lebouef and it's not at all what I thought. I was already aware of his first name from the Lego set leak and that really didn't ruin anything but his last name could be a spoiler... I'm just not sure what to think of it.

REDIT: In hindsight it is a minor spoiler but honestly I think it just confirms my earlier suspicions... if you think about it. Still if you don't even want to know the names of the other characters besides Indy just don't click on the above link.

Ok also while watching the trailer for the third time I noticed something. It is also a possible spoiler so I'll use the spoiler brackets. It is something I'd already known about from outlines of the general plot off IGN and other such sites but it still confirms those previously unconfirmed reports.

Select to view spoiler:

About two thirds of the way through the trailer an unusual and very unnatural sound is heard. Immediately followed by the Russian Agent's(?) glasses hitting(Magnetically attracted?) a crate with the following designation...

US
Roswell, New Mexico
1947
A 25 RSW-001

I do not usually go looking for these types of things... however in this case it was way too cool for me to not point out.

oh yeah- I caught that on the first time around and dread hit my heart-- the same dread I felt when I saw the recent Vanity Fair cover in the grocery store and saw the kid.

I hope I hope I hope they haven't followed all the old cliches of 'the hero has a son he never knew about' and now we're bringing the (I will not mention but it's the topic of the spoiler in this post).... Unlike the rest of you, I am holding out little hope for this to be as amazing as we all want it to be (and that's possible- even Speilberg himself admitted that he made Indy #3 to apologize for Indy #2)

And from that clip, it looks like Harrison is parodying Indy instead of taking it "seriously". Maybe I'm just being paranoid and crotchity, and I certainly hope I'm wrong about my expectations about this film.... either way, I'll probably save my big bucks and wait till it's out for rental on dvd come christmastime....

Well if you really must know who Shia Lebouef plays highlight the following. It's not a huge spoiler, just his first and last name. Which I doubt you'd expect unless you knew already.

Mutt Williams

Could the Williams be a nod to John Williams?

Either way I expect he has his father's last name. It also seems to be continuing the trend of naming Indiana Jones characters after dogs. Indiana, Willie etc....

Ok so it's continuing George Lucas's trend of naming his character after his own and other's dogs.

George also had a dog named Indiana in the 70's I believe. Shortround was named after a writers dog I think and Willie was Spielberg's dog... funny that he married the actress who played a character named after his dog.

Also I'm just speculating on the name Mutt. Even if it's not someone's dog it may be a nod to that practice.

EDIT: Ok I was really bored so I looked it up. George Lucas based Chewbacca on his dog Indiana... if he had a dog named Chewie it came after Star Wars. Didn't look that far into it. Either way he didn't name Chewie after his dog, only got inspiration from him. I didn't know that. I had always thought the same as you.

Oh, yes, you're right- now I remember! Chewie being based on the dog, Indiana... I got all mixed up there.

As far as the character name "Mutt" maybe it's more a reference to breeding than animal.... as in the kid doesn't come from good parentage- it could be his nickname because of that and we'll find out that hs real name in Indiana or Henry or something...

I think a lot of people get that mixed up. The only reason I was thinking about it was I just watched the documentary on the bonus disc with the Indiana Jones Trilogy. I got it from my folks for Christmas.

I seriously doubt he's Indy's boy. For one thing the last movie was a father son deal and I doubt they'd do it again. It worked great then but to do it with the next movie would be even too dorky for George Lucas. I think he's the son of Marion Ravenwood and some other guy. It would still put Mutt in the position to carry the torch for Indy as he was his mothers first love and his grandfather's student.

Another possibility would be that Mutt is also one of Indy's students and is cutting his class and being an ass so having an adventure with the teach sorta get's him interested in the class...

All in all it's just speculation. We'll all see on May 22. It's really only one of two films I plan to see on the day of release or at least within a few days after. The other would be Defiance. Check that one out. Jurassic Punk also has that trailer.

Did anybody else notice that the musical score at the start (prior to the traditional Indiana Jones Theme) was taken from Sci-Fi's children of dune?

I'm excited about the jones film, but putting the Dune score in there seemed....inappropriate. Indiana Jones trailer music (I think) should be upbeat and exciting, exactly what the traditional theme protrays. The Dune theme is intended to be introspectively zen-ish. Once indy was picking up his hat and the traditional theme started, it finally felt like a Jones movie.

Do not fear me. Our's is a peaceful race and we must live in harmony.
