As Chrisisall replied in the Fantastic Four 2 thread, when I mentioned Iron Man: "CGI was invented to enable the making of this movie- I'm SO there!!!!"
I couldn't agree more, so I decided to start a new thread to discuss the nifty little details I have so much fun looking at in HD on my new 20" iMac!

I suggest watching the trailer in as high a resolution as you can manage (hopefully 1080)...
http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/

Let's start with all the nifty little aero-control surfaces that are constantly adjusting as Iron Man flies...

These I've dubbed "Shoulderons" (like ailerons, elevons or flaperons)...

Also, there are two separate control surfaces on the back of each of his boots that I've taken to calling "bootflaps"...

This movie is gonna be "CGI Porn" for years to come!

So humpin' charged to see IM. And yes, CGI was created for such a purpose.

Insanely smiling while running with scissors and playing with matches.

Another nifty detail is the "vapor cone" as IM goes supersonic right at the end of the trailer.
(They also showed this in Superman Returns, but I think this one is better!)

This phenomenon is called the Prandtl-Glauert singularity...

Speaking of drunk superheroes Mad TV did a parody of Superman several years ago when Nicholas Cage was interested in the role. It was called "Leaving Metropolis" and is to this day one of the funniest spoofs I have ever seen. Here's a sample of what I remember: a very inebriated Supes making a call from a payphone. "Bruce, I'm sorry man but I think I fucked up and told everyone about the Batcave".

Saw it last night, and it was everything I'd hoped for!
If I could afford to, I'd see this at least another 4 times in the theater!
Gonna grab the DVD on first day of release, and will be making heavy use of frame-by-frame!

Saw the movie.

Liked it a lot!

THAT's how to make a comic book action hero come alive on the big screen!

Yeah, just seen it, great fun. Never was into Marvel stuff, but the use of a certain riff in the trailers pulled me in...

Is it my imagination, or is Robert Downey Jr turning into Al Pacino?

LWAVES

Well I hit VERY lucky today.
A mate rang and said that if I went along to my local cinema I'd get to see this movie early here in the UK.
Somewhat dubious I met with him and sure enough we went to see an advance screening. Yeah for me!

Well I can say that I never followed Iron Man as a comic, all I knew is what I've picked up from trailers and magazine articles.

And it rocked!
Robert Downey Jr was excellent in the role. It had enough humour to give you a laugh, but didn't plunge into pure comic book style hokum.
By the same token it wasn't too dark either and didn't stray too far from reality (for a comic adaption).
The effects were fantastic as well.

If I had to be picky then the plot was very predictable, but this is any minor gripe and there have been a lot of worse comic plots.

Really enjoyed this movie and will definitely be buying the DVD.

In a movie like this, textured as it was, and full of sly humour, yeah, that's a minor thing. The next one could be even better...

I just bought it yesterday- I'd rented it when it came out, but hadn't seen it since then. I liked it better than Dark Knight! Hell, I liked it almost as much as the first Superman movie, now that I think on it....

Actually, back a few months ago, when they first announced the features on the 2-disc, so-called "Ultimate Edition" DVD, and I saw that there wasn't going to be a commentary from Robert Downey Jr. and/or Jon Favreau, I decided to boycott it.

I mean, come on, even CRAPPY movies have commentaries!

My favorite commentary is on Hellboy, the second one of the two, which has Ron Perlman, Selma Blair (Hilarious!), Jeffrey Tambor & Rupert Evans just really enjoying spending time with each other.
My other favorite is Kate Beckinsale's on Underworld. Never knew she had such a great sense of humor!

I just nabbed the single disk at Blockbuster, used, for $15. There, you can get it AND STILL boycott it that way.
