IMO, the flick is the closest thing to perfection since Superman The Movie. Even Batman Begins takes a second place to this recent comic book adaption.
And face my Repulsor rays if you disagree!!!

Sir,I'll face your repulser ray in my armoured bat suit.Iron Man was greatness, and even though I'm tired of hearing about it myself,I gotta go with The Dark Knight.Look out for The Watchmen though!I think it's gonna be a contender.

Yes. Iron Man restored my faith in Marvel movies.
After all, I nearly walked out of Spidey 3. X-Men3, I'm not even gonna go there. I believe Superman the movie will always be tops with me as well.

The Dark Knight:
Chrisisall your theory about there being too many cooks in the kitchen(or villains in a movie) is accurate.
Two Face gummed up a movie that was going rather smoothly. Broke the pacing, and that is not acceptable. Long story short....I liked the first half of it.

I will admit to a lust for Bale, but Iron Man was still better. (and Mr. Downey isn't hard to look at )

Nope.

As much as I love it, it's just too cheesy to be the ultimate Superhero Movie.

Hey listen 'C" I absolutely love Iron Man and it being cheesy aint no bad thang. Fact is Cheese is a big part of all my favourite films: Big Trouble in little China, Indy (to some extent) Sean of the Dead - hell I love the 80's Flash Gordon and that's absolutely swimming in fondue!

I don't mean to put a kink in Iron Man for you though but you have to admit the whole Jeff Bridges reveal at the end is... well somewhat stiltony in nature... and the set up for it - with the montage, voice over, magazine covers and having Jeff being all arch in the background to one of those shots with he and Tony... it's cheesy fodder mate....It's a cheese plate at the end of the meal!

Yeah - What can you say about Christopher Reeve and his Clark Kent. It's brilliant, and yet saddly under-rated. I actually enjoy watching the fight sequences to 2 just as much. The battle with Zod and co still gets the hairs on the back of the neck standing!

Christopher Reeve was ace!

..but I'm not complaining. I like it. Perhaps it has something to do with how sincere a film is? *shruggs* I don't have the definitive say y'know just my personal opinion... But with alot of films of this genre - they start out life as a 'Superhero' film whereas maybe something like the Reeve's Superman it was just a film. Sans brand - if that makes any sense - and so more sincere. Maybe I dunno - I thinks we're into semantics here now.

Oh and for the record peanut butter is too peanutty!

Minority report: I found myself really put off by Iron Man's cavalier attitude toward killing. That shot when he killed 10 terr'sts with 10 li'l rockets coming out of his shoulders was, I suppose, badass--but damn! Can you say "unequal warfare?" They didn't have a chance. It wasn't a fight, it was an execution, y'see what I mean? I mean it was a freakin' embodiment of what Western Power has done in that part of the world for centuries. Left a really bad taste in my mouth. If you have that kind of power over your enemy, would it kill ya to find a less lethal method of TOTAL DOMINATION? Yeesh.

And why is it that superheroes so often end up fighting a wannabe version of themselves for the climax? It's hack work. Hack metaphysics. The lame.

Me, I liked The Shadow. I mean, Jonathan Winters, c'mon! Batman Returns was highly underrated. And X-men was written by Joss, fer cryin' out-loud! Oh and Batman Begins was an instant classic. After the smoke clears, Dark Knight was plain incoherent. Remove Ledger from the equation and it just falls apart.

They look pretty pissed to me, Chris. I'd start editing or start running, if I were you.

Iron Man was good, and very entertaining, but it was sooooo rote and by-the-numbers that there's no way I'd call it the best ever. It's incredibly predictable, and lifts the structure of Batman Begins pretty shamelessly. It's solid, but without a great lead performance from Downey Jr, it wouldn't be half the movie it is.

I still consider The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, X-Men 2, and Spider-Man 2 better examples of the genre.

Considering that the 10 terrorists were holding human shields in front of them, were beating a father in front of his children and had the intention of shooting said father in front of his children-as well as the fact that they had certainly killed untold innocents -considering all that then more power to Iron Man. It was not an execution - they were armed and had been shooting at him.

Given that their shots were 100% ineffective and pointless, that's like saying it's okay to blow someone up for throwing a pea at you.

No its not. The weapons were ineffective against him, not the innocents they were killing. Are we supposed to stand by and watch as others are killed just because our weapons are bigger or better?

Didn't say that. You are reading what you like into my statement. I just said they were ineffective against him, and they were. The fact that they were dangerous to others doesn't change the point that he could have used non-lethal means just as effectively.

Only thing wrong with it is that the DVD lacks a commentary from Robert Downey, Jr. and/or Jon Favreau.

This is why I never ever consider Batman a superhero. He is a crime fighter or vigilante.
On that grounds Iron Man is the best superhero movie of recent times (will anything beat Superman The Movie??).

Although I think The Dark Knight is a fantastic film (even with it's flaws) I do have to agree it is getting too much attention that, as a result of Ledgers death, it wouldn't have normally got.

For me a superhero has to have been physically modified in some way (space rays, chemicals, radiation, technology or whatever it may be).
Tony Stark, whilst just a man, has his chestplate that stops the shrapnel getting to his heart but this also allows him to powere his suit. Other superheroes have their own thing.
Batman has nothing like that. Beneath everything he is just a man. Plain and simple.

I think it's unfair to compare them.
But when is anything fair these days....
