If you haven't seen the first 3 episodes of Dark Matter on Apple's streaming service you are missing out.

Don't look it up. Don't watch a trailer. Just go into it blind and enjoy it.

Ok might give that first ep a look

already seen a series of blogger gif or tv link online, so I know who is in it at least

Apple Tv is not the worst however they have backed up crap like the new movie Napoleon.

EDIT having a look now

maybe some camera writing Foreshadowing the story device utilized to give a hint or indication of future events in the story ... not sure if Foreshadowing, I think we expect it these days.

Guy who wrote this show, a positive and other novels was a show I previously watched, books were adapted into the television series 'Wayward Pines'.

Joel Edgerton Zero Dark Thirty, Great Gatsby he almost looks like a twin of Steve Bacic, tv Stargate, BattleStar, Xfiles, guested in the Xmen movie and Andromeda tv (this site used to be an Andromeda site)
Steve is more athletic and nose is different but they look almost the same, I kinda feel like Ive seen the face a lot more?
Jennifer Connelly

teen kid doesn't crash car, forgiving

Schrödinger's Cat

Friend wins a book prize a call / text disturbs night of wine with wife, he seems comfortable-ish but no satisfaction or interaction with students
Wife says go meet friend
spooky car pulling away, out of tune music we ought to get outta this place, illuminat pirate news occult tattoo, weird seeing group introduced fast their faces stare at the camera almost breaking the 4th wall so you almost feel drunkish in a bar
it slows down camera pulls in, they have a quiet moment money, Neurotech conspiracy unfolds?

Also actress Jennifer Connelly and weird alt dimension geometry in the intro

something weird may happen?

like that Bowie scene

hope it adds humor, I'm both a fan and a critic of a guy like Joss but at least he throws in jokes

For what was obvious and shamelessly low budget fare, I really liked (the old) Dark Matter. Never bothered watching the 3rd and last season though because I heard they didn't end it properly and I wasn't about to Sarah Connor Chronicles myself again.

Yeah. I was drinking a lot of booze, but I remember it enough to vaguely recall a comedic episode like the old Star Trek shows used to do. It had to do with a device on the ship putting in a Groundhog Day style time loop. The the dumb "Jayne" type was the only one aware it was happening. I remember laughing out loud a few times that episode. The dumbest guy on the ship had to learn stuff like engineering to fix the problem and/or prove to them more quickly the next day that what he was saying was true. You got the feeling that even though you only saw maybe 2 dozen repeats of the day, he might have been at that for 1,000 years before he got it all right. I think maybe he had to learn a foreign language for some reason too?

I can't remember a single character's name in Dark Matter now, but I do remember they did a great job making you care about all the characters as the story unfolded. That Jayne type in the Groundhog Day episode was always just a dick, and I think in those first few episodes he may have even come off as a possible straight up bad guy. But by the time that episode aired they'd already been doing a good job humanizing him and being part of the team that didn't just include his Army of One anymore. But that episode, as silly as it was, really put the glue on the characters and made you believe that this was now a team of people who cared for each other and weren't just random amnesiac strangers who didn't trust anyone and were only looking out for Number #1 like everyone did in the beginning of the series.

The more I'm thinking about it, the more I'm liking the show again in my mind. They did a really good job. Maybe I should watch that 3rd season.

I lost you on the Meryl Streep thing though. Having a hard time figuring your meaning.

Seems its going to go 'Quantum Leap' mixed with alt reality thriller horror maybe?

In real life NASA science types they say 'Dark Matter' is a real thing but simply unknown matter, in movie media there was a drama with Meryl Streep

the other movie

I think it was Bush years, Patriot Act, ban stem cells, sanction French Cheese, dont trust the Russian or Chinese ...it looked watchable but I never seen it

seems like a docu drama
the subject does not look happy

one of the actress was in the tv series Fringe,

another in Argo, Atlas Shrugged

As for the current Dark Matter
I will finish the first episode, good opening pilot

They didn't have names they had numbers, not as wacko as an old cult TV Show The Prisoner is a British television series created by Patrick McGoohan...in Dark Matter they named each other by numbers as they came out of the cryo suspended animation pods.

Although I remember one called 'The Android'

I don't believe I've ever seen anything by Apple TV before. I don't really even recall anybody talking about anything they do other than the fall of Napoleon and a few other movies last year... Didn't they do that Michael Jordan movie AIR too?

This being my first exposure to what they do, I'm extremely impressed so far. I know that speaks nothing to the overall quality of their work, but if somebody ever recommended me another show they did, I certainly wouldn't turn it down after what they appear to be doing here.

Yeah. You're probably right. I think even people who aren't aware they are looking for foreshadowing are just doing it on a subconscious level at this point. Doing otherwise would be like going to an M Knight Shamalyan flick and not expecting a plot twist.

You're not wrong to expect foreshadowing while watching this. Pretty sure I could watch a youtuber break these episodes down and point out foreshadowing that went right past me while I was focusing on something else too. I'm really impressed with the writing and the plot so far. Right now, I'm sure there's stuff I'm not currently aware was foreshadowing that will crystalize only after the next episode drops.

Heard of Wayward Pines before. Don't know nothing about it though. Good to hear a recommendation for him though. I'm sure not complaining about anything so far.

There's some levity in it in between the other scenes. But you're not going to get anything anywhere close to Joss level banter. This is definitely a serious series. And so far it just keeps getting better as you find out what's happening along with the main character.

Love to hear what you think if you catch up.

Yeah... Nah. I never forgot the show. I just stopped watching pretty much everything I was watching around that time when I stopped drinking, and Dark Matter was one of the few shows I would have even considered actually going back to.

How do you think it ended? Did you watch the 3rd season? I don't remember exactly what I heard bad about it at the time, but it turned me off from even bothering with continuing it.

Oh right! Numbers. Was "Jayne" "two"? Was the young girl "six"? I might be totally wrong on those but that's what's stuck in my mind right now for some reason.

Wasn't "One" the guy you thought was going to be your "avatar" and the main character of the show but then he turned out to be a bad guy?

Heh... Crazy how long buried memories start coming back to you but only in part.

Yeah... Prisoner was cool. They had it on Nick at Nite one summer and we watched it with my old man who told us about how he watched it when he was a kid and hadn't seen it since. He also told us about Secret Agent Man but they never played that on TV back when I would have ever watched it. I always loved that weird ass song they played at the end of every episode of The Prisoner.

I remembered there was a bike on it but I forgot about the artwork behind it.

Everything about that show was so damn weird.

You ever see the 3 or 4 episode miniseries remake with Jim Cavezel before? If you haven't, I've got another great recommendation for you.

Damn. Wrong on both counts. Jayne was Three and the girl was Five.

Two was the badass bitch and I don't remember Six right now at least not from his IMDB profile picture.

I was thinking more on that Dark Matter intro theme. I should have led with that. That should be the trailer, IMO. It's spoiler free even though things you see might end up symbolizing things we're in the dark about now.

It also made me think about an old Playstation puzzle game called I.Q. I'd never even heard about it until years after Playstation was already an ancient system. I don't know how popular or well known it was back in the day, but it's a great game I think a lot of people who like puzzle games probably missed.

Finished the first ep seemed a little like Counterpart TV series if I could compare it to anything, 'Counterpart' is also the alternative world type show. I don't know where they might go with the plot so it could go down the alternate Universe at War or Spy Gangster Drama or the Imposter Body Snatchers route, MissionImpossible, There Will Be Blood, Kurosawa's Kagemusha, The Broken a 2008 French-British horror film exploring Capgras delusion, a psychological condition also known as impostor syndrome.

Counterpart Tv Plot there was an experiment in Germany but its in Germany, the alternative reality Germany is still under post war international protect and its going to go into an even bigger alt timeline revisionist history split. In the show you also have some type of a Berlin-based World agency making sure it all runs like clockwork. The non-linear backstory plot-line that is eventually revealed - Two parallel Earths were created they have a tunnel or doorway to both Earth-1 Earth-2 and both began studying how the initially identical Earths diverge...the study is mostly hidden from the public but somehow a super-Flu-Virus is released it only truly damages one of the worlds / universe and the two different worlds/ dimensions enter a state of super cold war. This is the backstory until the 'plot' changes in the pilot and J. K. Simmons as Howard Silk, an ordinary employee meets his 'copy' of sorts a more cold, aggressive, militant, ruthless and ambitious 'counterpart'. I watched a season it was ok this was during the Trump era of political madness, maybe they could have rallied for another 3rd season but movies and tv were starting to crash a little and then Covid hits in the real world. It's as much as an espionage thriller or commentary on Dystopia with a bureaucratic UN type agency.

The trailer may explain it better

The other Dark Matter Canadian Syfy series was also pre-Trump and during Trump era of political madness, Dark Matter 2015-2017 set in space is really nothing like Apple's Dark Matter Series 2024 other than you can class them both as scifi. I would say Dark Matter 2004 is more like Counterpart or Fringe, the episodic shows like Outer Limits or Twilight Zone, The Man in the High Castle, Sliders and Quantum Leap more episodic upbeat there is also Stranger Things, there is 'Dark' German Fernsehserie but it is slow, atmospheric and leaves clues and is cryptic I was watching it casually, but you can miss stuff if you don't pay full attention there is a lot going on in one of the seasons so its not the type of German ghostly scifi show you watch casually while playing a guitar or friends come around and have a beer or a joint or something I think I will go back to it.
For now I would compare Dark Matter 2024 to the Counterpart TV series.

I know there are people who like to casually watch tv and switch their brains off, episodic shows might be better for them.

There was also a very old show the Scifi now Syfy Channel would show as re-runs the 'Otherworld' about a swiss family robinson household plot but thrown into a Dystopia another Escape from LA Escape from NewYork Dimension

Didn't see 'The Prisoner 2009 miniseries' might give it a watch, i t looks a high enough rated TV Show six of of 10 maybe 7 on some blogs although the official snobby critics at Rotten Tomatoes hate it audience is higher at 40% rating...not very good?

Sliders was a big cult hit similar to the plot but very episodic at times, more like Quantum Leap maybe.

'Charlie Jade' was another, it had a few fans here on fireflyfans but Scifi put it on some graveyard shift broadcast slot. It was some joint South African and Canada Montreal production around the time Canada was making good US tv and South Africa was growing with Invictus, District 9 but all that era seems gone now

Charlie Jade was very Blade Runner-ish

So again I would compare the new Dark Matter more to the Counterpart TV series

I forgot the Korean tv show 'Train' and Because it seems like there could be one actor doing many things but playing different personality roles maybe you could compare it to one of those split personality shows or movies, 'Psycho' or Legion, United States of Tara, Mr. Robot

The Neuro-Tech fake reality angle they might go, there was a tv show NeXt killed by Covid lockdowns, it had this Tony Stark Elon Musk Steve Jobs Bill Gates Peter Thiel Andrew Ng Sam Altman type guy, actor John Slattery played him but the character is suffering maybe a brain cancer, at the same time AI escapes and a homeland cybersecurity team to counter "a rogue AI with the ability to constantly improve itself"

I think you need to get ready to feel that way a lot. My mind has been swimming with the possibility of what is actually going on this whole time too. After 3 episodes, hilariously, part of me is starting to think that everything going on has a much more simple and almost trite/tropish motivation behind them. I don't think it's possible at all that these feelings are right, and I think that I'm being manipulated to feel that way by the story.

I REALLY want to tell you a certain Nicolas Cage movie part of this is really starting to remind me of, but I don't want to spoil anything for you because just mentioning the name of the movie would be a spoiler so I can't. You'll know what I know after you watch 2 more episodes.

I watched some episodes with my old man and my brother. I do remember liking it and feeling it had that Fringe vibe. But for the life of me I can't remember how much of it that I've seen or why I never finished it. It came out quite a bit after I'd stopped drinking. There was a few years there where I never watched anything if I didn't watch it with my dad at my brother's place. It's possible we'd started it and maybe we were going to finish it next time but I didn't go the next time and they watched it without me and I never got back to it.

Did they finish the story? Is it worth another attempt at a watch?

Yeah. I see that. It's probably not much like that storywise, but the way many scenes are filmed so dark is very reminiscent of Counterpart. I don't remember much of that show but I do remember how dark and gritty they filmed it.

Man... You're right about those reviews. They're in the gutter all around.

I dunno. 2009 was way before any woke agenda was far along enough where anyone noticed it. Hollywood and the access media always had a leftward lean to some extent though. Was this after Passion of the Christ came out? Could be a lot of those critics would have given it a higher score if Mel Gibson's Jesus Christ didn't star in it?

There's not a ton of user reviews. Maybe fans of the original who didn't like the new story?

I really don't remember enough to tell you much about it. That predated my really bad time with alcoholism, but I was certainly drinking back then too. Sometimes with shows or movies I can really only recommend them based off of a level of feeling I have about them. I've watched a lot of crap that I've forgotten I ever watched over the years. The prisoner wasn't crap. I haven't forgotten it. I know it's not just because it was a remake of something so weird from my childhood that I haven't forgotten it yet. I think it had a real sort of David Lynch/Mullholland Drive/Lost Highway/Donnie Darko feeling about it. I don't remember if it had a satisfying end or not. A review or two that I read by people who didn't like it claim that it didn't.

I dunno. I still love LOST even though I didn't care for the way it ended. Some things like this are more about the experience and the journey than they are about the destination. I believe this is one of those productions that makes you think after you've watched it.

I guess I apologize if you do watch it and don't care for it. I can't really guaranty you will. All I can say about it is that I'd still recommend it even if I don't remember much of what it was about, and there's got to be something to say for that.

Sliders was great, until it wasn't. Same with Quantum Leap. Both of those shows pissed me off because they lost their way at one point. They should have both ended after 2 or three seasons and told a great story with a satisfying conclusion. Though it never had a conclusion, Quantum Leap wasn't nearly as bad as what happened to Sliders. If somebody watched the first and the last episode back to back without ever seeing Sliders before, they'd swear it was two entirely different shows.

I never heard of Charlie Jade before either. Decent? Blade Runner was never really my thing.

So again I would compare the new Dark Matter more to the Counterpart TV series

I get you. I try to. It's one of the reasons I watch so little things even though I'm always getting recommendations from friends and family and online.

Part of me would love to go back and rewatch Dark Matter and watch it to the end, but I just don't know if I want to invest the time in that.

its a pity you don't enjoy a style and genre born of Blade Runner

Outside of the Matrix thing Maybe play Deus Ex rewtahc Judge Dredd and look at the comics or read a William Gibson books
I know you watch foreign film but pretty sure you missed manga series or anime 'Akira' and there is Alita: Battle Angel or Blade Runner 2049

Otherworld is perhaps dated, 1980s tv

Dark Matter 2024 still enjoying it might make it to ep 3 or 4 or whatever is out there now

I don't know if I'd say that. I just didn't really like the original Blade Runner movie is all. I can't explain why I didn't, and why I found it boring when I watched it. I loved Harrison Ford when I was a kid and Sci-Fi was always something I was into.

I like games like Shadowrun, which isn't Blade Runner, but took obvious inspiration from it. I liked the movie Hackers too, and I'm pretty sure that got a lot of inspiration from Blade Runner. Would I still like Hackers today? Can't say if I would. I'm sure it's really dated by now, and I liked a lot of crap back in those days that you couldn't pay me to watch today.

I never saw the remake of Judge Dredd but I saw the original. It wasn't bad. I liked Demolition Man a lot more though.

I'm familiar with Akira just because of how popular it is and because there were video games made for it. I think my brothers both liked it too. I was never big into Anime like they were, but I enjoyed some of the stuff they got me to watch like Armatage III... which hey... come to think of it, that had to have been inspired by Blade Runner too.

I don't think I'm familiar with that one, which is kind of strange since that would have been the time I watched a lot of old sci-fi tv shows with my dad. Things like The War of the Worlds tv series and Max Headroom.

They've got 3 out now. Looks like Apple releases their shows on Wednesday and that's when Episode 4 comes out.

Did you watch episode 2 already? Things change a lot by the end of Episode 3.

Ep 2 was the weaker, I liked the Art idea it maybe even pays tribute or referenced that other movie Labyrinth the scene with Doors Riddle trying to figure out Bowie Goblin King Maze.
Something about the 3 smoking weed was it or having a drink but then an intense conversation starts 'hypothetical' that stops being intense about another man living a similar but very different life, it was a missed opportunity a joke to throw in, a chance for more anger, something else back and forth maybe humor, a reaction...but there was almost nothing, maybe they were playing sleepy and tired but I think it felt like a wasted scene.

Still feel like there is a whole Stolen Identity Face-Off Body Snatcher possession memory transfer mind hijacking into Body Suit Evil Doppelgänger from the Bizarre Mirror Universe...a common plot point Wolverine asks who am I and Identify your real self through Amnesia and missing Memory, forgetting your thoughts and person later proves to be important, the newbie not really new engages in acts that do not make sense...again similar to the other 'Dark Matter' with a space ship who forgot who they were but they twins one good and one evil? they have switched places. 'A Stolen Life' about Twins there was also a Van Damme movie, Double Impact? Sherlock Holmes, CSI, Poirot Murder Mystery maybe Xfiles, Enemy of the State

Sudden jumps between worlds is not as smooth as I thought it could be and adds a little confusion interrupting what could be a more natural flow of scifi drama story, its good they added that stopwatch droplet train car move by sound effect maybe a finger snap sound effect mixed into to that acoustic envelope effect otherwise you are not grounded when maybe unknowingly watching it all move between worlds.

There are other hints if you don't catch the sound effect' you can notice the home is different, Jimmi Simpson as Ryan is fatter? or Jennifer Connelly dresses more seductive as the other Daniela or you have a more Housewife Soccer-mom look or one Joel Edgerton character Jason is unshaven and maybe has a cut and a scar. Jason-1 is adaptable and creative doing the bait and switch to get into 'technically his own house'. The Abortion angle adds a lot of drama and what if, is he losing his mind she asks. Is one of them a Bad 'Immoral' Jason, the spooky mask? Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde? There are hints that Jason-1 is sensitive type while new-Jason that jumped into Jason's bed, arriving at original Earth 1 is a bit more sociopath cold psychotic? proof he's really different are the thickened skin calluses from the Wedding Ring. So you have Abortionist Painter Artist Daniela and the other Soccer-mom Daniela?

it has weird drama
adding new life to an old romance a lot of movies do it, Casablanca, Great Gatsby, re-finding the Erotic and Romance, even slashers like 'Scream' but making husband replaced by psycho Earth-2 version is another level of weird and strange, the Falling-in-Love but psycho man from Earth-2 Falls Out of Love goes Abortion-man or was only thinking of himself but then he goes to Earth-1 and finds good sex again.

Finally it starts to explain itself super position and multiple realities of Quantum Physics. Bad Jason from Earth-2 finds an unfinished Big Box in an old dirty warehoose, fix it and step inside big multi dimension mutliverse teleport thing happens? the Box the Cube important plot element, like a Borg ship or that Rock jihadi islamics walk around. they are about to have sex but then noise interrupts, phone and bad guys coming...ends with gore and shocker.
I haven't really noticed the other merc military guy he has a kind of LeBron or Malcolm-Jamal Warner Theo Huxtable look about his features.
Marquita Brooks plays a murderous violent solider merc imbecile with a gun 'Dawn Lawrence'. What is the role, the Orc, the Beast, the Demon you see in other movies and shows?
Alice Braga playing Amanda even though the role is small it is adding a lot of presence to the show.
Can you see it coming, predictions, foreshadowing.
How will it go....So Amanda from Earth-2 will now help Jason from Earth-1? free him so he can fix the box? and bring back Jason-2??
the organization...working for something, the military, a world government? evil nazi scientists or afraid the public will learn of Cern Mandela-effect 'Quantum Jumps' or the public is forbidden to learn of alt reality? so they will now hunt Amanda just as she frees Jason-1...but it gets confused as they also focus on Jason-2 or they learn or Amanda learns that Jason-1 is not Jason-2?
A bloody shocking ending might give it another ep 3

ok watched ep 3, it was excellent, lots of new characters introduced if we classify 1-2 as 'The Pilot' takes the show in a new direction.
The female henchman or henchwoman is basically just a monster.
but new concepts and plot elements taking it in another direction and a Female Cop detective shows up trying to sniff things out and had a few twists I did not expect.

Joel Edgerton is a good actor, and very skilled playing as good guy Jason-1 or as narcissism Jason-2 playing a role of an imposter trying to fit into another person's shoes

it hints at the modern world, maybe even kind of a warning about all the stuff you put out there on the Instagrams, Snapchats, Facebooks

poor Ryan can't get a break but he's a lot more financially successful in Earth-1

Without doubt going down that stolen memory stolen identity route.
I thought he should have kicked the Female-Monster in the face, she was trying to put a gun into the room thought he should have kicked her teeth out, maybe the writers film makers wanted to make that scene shocking but I thought it was hilarious she lost her hand, pity she's still alive and I will be forced to watch more of her

didnt expect the ending with a super box tunnel

That weed smoking scene was to make a voice over for the trailer, my friend.

Sometime in the future you should get around to watching the trailer for the show. I didn't watch the full thing myself because I didn't want anything spoiled for me, but before I posted about the show here I wanted to see how spoilery the trailer was and it was awful.

What he was saying during that pot smoking scene as a hypothetical is played throughout the trailer, but in a way where it's presented as known fact about what happens to him in the show. I'd like to think that this is now NOT what is actually happening and the whole trailer viewing audience got punked.

I wouldn't watch the trailer yet, because I do believe it will spoil a lot of the show for you if you do, but remember this and go back and watch it after the season wraps up and you'll know that the scene was not wasted.

There it is... Face-Off. If you remember before I said the following...

Quote:

SIX: I think you need to get ready to feel that way a lot.

The "simple and trite/tropish motivation" was referencing Nicolas Cage's Face-Off. I think we're being lead to believe this on some level, but I expect the real motivations to run a whole lot deeper than this. The stakes just seem way too high for that to be all this is about.

Quote:

I'm okay with how they did that. I think it keeps the pace up and allows them to transition back and forth quickly without putting words on the screen or otherwise pulling you out of the experience. In fact, at some point, probably by the 3rd episode, I consciously stopped even noticing the snapping effect but I always seemed to know exactly when a transition happened and I've never found myself confused about where we were or what was going on.

Yeah. I really like the differences in characters and the whole Butterfly Effect angle being played out in two universes simultaneously.

Yeah. I like that part too. The whole time though I'm thinking to myself that "this cannot be what the show's all about". I think the relationship is all a big red herring. It's something that "bad Jason" always wanted with the grass being greener on the other side, sure, but there's no way he went to those lengths to get it. I also wonder if he's really even bad or not. He certainly is unburdened by morals and the societal code. But maybe he's seen some shit and knows stuff that nobody else knows and is on some sort of mission now that nobody at the company he created back in his own world are even aware of? Has he spent too much time staring into the void and seeing things that none of us were meant to ever see???

Yes. I was not expecting that scene at all. As much as it sucked seeing it happen right after you finally got the sense that he found somebody safe that he could trust in this alternate reality, it lets you know the stakes are very real here and you should take nothing for granted. Like I said, I wouldn't expect any Joss Whedon style humor with this show, and just take a breather during the moments of levity that spring up from time to time in between the story. If they took anything from Joss at all it's the ability to kill off a main character unapologetically.

Man... You are really good at names, aren't you? It's never been my strong suit. I don't think I knew all the characters of Firefly by name until toward the end if the season. I'm impressed. I know exactly which characters you're talking about by the descriptions, but I wouldn't have known any of their names. Heh... as much as I love this show so far, I forgot the main character's name was Jason and I couldn't have told you that Connelly's name was Daniella unless I looked it up if you didn't say it here.

I like it though. This show is a little like Fringe, and if I recall they actually did use different light/color filters for the separate universes when that arc came into the show. The dark tone suits the show though. I think it also suits both worlds. Ours ("Earth-1"), is dark because it represents a man who just kind of coasted through life and settled for things. His life is safe and easy, but it is also boring and drab. Earth-2 is just dark because what little we've seen of that world is dark. I get the sense that however bad people here on Earth-1 might feel they've got it today, things are going a lot worse for the people of Earth-2... which may or may not play out into the story going further.

Oh, come'on man!

You started the post by saying that Episode three was "excellent", but you don't know if you'll watch more?

Wednesday can't come fast enough for me.

I haven't watched a TV show where I had to wait week to week for a new episode since the last season of LOST. I kind of forgot to remember what it felt like to have something little like this to look forward to in the back of my mind all week while the rest of the world happens.

I really liked Episode 1 and 2, but I didn't post about the show here until after watching Episode 3. That's the episode that really grabbed me. It was excellent, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

The 'Capgras Syndrome' the Deep Fake or Body Snatcher plot or drug that renders him unconscious for the Quantum Jump Mirror Universe might be an important plot point, Dissociative Body Double paranoia identity...or Psycho thing I kind of hinted it might feel like it could go that way.

There was also maybe a trailer for a Scottish an Irish a Welsh movie? 'Hole in the Ground' imposter I never seen the film but it was maybe no scifi, more super natural horror, maybe an old actor from Braveheart was in it?

I might go back to this show, ep 2 put me off but I thought ep 3 was excellent as I said. If you class ep1-2 as a 'pilot' or join the two as a tele-movie it would lift the second part and make it stronger. I watched the trailer for the series and you're right it really spoils a lot of stuff about to happen and the show has a few twists and turns yet it seems to go in directions I was not expecting.

If there are too many worlds how to track the story, maybe it breaks down to the characters and bad universe, maybe its a corporate conspiracy the Box is an AI Alien thing that feels like Artificial Intelligence, maybe theer is a sub-plot 'Ryan' the biology brains, Leighton Vance with the cash, company and his power through money, and Amanda psychology, maybe its as simple as Jason-1 and J-2 and the original family.

Right? I think I hate that trailer as much as I love the show. I'm so glad that I didn't watch it before I decided to just watch the show based off of a friend's recommendation. And from what you're telling me right now, I'm glad I stopped it about 10 or 15 seconds in because I was afraid that it would go on to spoil more than just the first few episodes and it sounds like you've just confirmed that for me.

I was excited about seeing it tonight, but I was helping my buddy move all day long and I'm too beat right now. I could still watch it, but I don't want to ruin that experience while I'm exhausted. That's what YouTube is for.

I'll probably watch it tomorrow and let you know what I think without giving away any spoilers.

I dunno man. Still don't really understand your motivation for not possibly finishing this series. Even back when I was watching TV shows regularly, I know I watched a lot of crap and I'll never get those hours back, but it's been like a desert for so long with new content that I'm not passing up the chance to watch something that I already know is really good first hand.

But maybe that's just me. You seem to like to dip your feet into a lot of pools, but you're really selective about which one you're going to jump in after you felt all the temperatures. I'm a lot less charatible than that these days. Even TV shows that have had separate recommendations from several friends and family members like Reacher really hold no interest for me. I've got to REALLY be feeling something to even spend 1 minute firing up a new thing to watch... Especially something as time consuming as a TV show. But boy, when I get hooked, I get hooked.

The last three I watched were top-tier winners to me. Fallout was simply amazing. If they don't fumble Dark Matter I think that it also will be. I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I watched BEEF before that.

It's an almost exclusively Asian cast in that one, with the lead male being the guy who played Glen on The Walking Dead, and I'm fairly certain the female lead is actually a wokie type, maybe a standup comic that I heard people complaining about 2 years ago perhaps??? If I'm right about that, it didn't bother me none in the show. There was some really good acting and writing in there and she was great. Not even my normal fare, but I really enjoyed it. I managed to keep that one down to one episode every few days until I watched Episode 5. Once I watched Episode 5 I binge watched the other 3 right then and there, something I haven't done once since when I quit drinking.

Hey Jaynez... You're going to want to watch Episode 4.

Spoilers blanked out below...

Liminal Spaces mentioned in this episode. Inside the box has a very Backrooms Found Footage vibe even if they didn't mention them.

Sliders theme in full effect here, although they ultimately have quite a bit more control over where they end up on the other side... those fortunate enough to figure out how, anyway.

The episode made me think about parallel universes and how there's a great chance that many of them already consist of a dead Earth, either from a man made catastrophe or something outside of our control. It made me wonder what percentage of parallel Earths still have human life on it in 2024.

They really leaned heavy into the Face Off theme in this episode, even humanizing Jason-2 quite a bit. I still don't believe fully that a "2nd chance" is what this was all about in the first place, but on the off chance that this is where it's going I'm not as opposed to it as I was before just because of the writing. It still would be a pretty big disappointment to me if that's what this is about though.

I still have no idea where this show is going and I love it.

I think I might get to the rest of this show soon, casually watch stuff in evening either Nature Documentary or with French, German, Korean or Japanese language.

Other stuff I need to finish or star the tv show Fallout, movie 'Civil War' old shows like Deadwood older tv series Justified/Fargo, Tokyo Vice and scifi 'LoveDeath+Robots'

Before the election of Trump the other 2015 Dark Matter a completely different tv series with the same name went mostly unnoticed
https://www.metacritic.com/game/dark-matter-2015/
'Critic reviews are not available yet'
maybe in another universe this became a successful show?

There are other scifi from South Korea for example but Scifi seems kind of dead with the big Star Treks and Star Wars starting to fall down

Episode 5 is coming out tonight and I'm psyched. I hope Apple doesn't release stuff a day late because of holidays. For sure you should see this one through. I mean... there's always the chance they don't stick the landing, and there's always a chance they leave it on a cliffhanger and cancel the show without ever resolving it, but so far so good.

Other stuff I need to finish or star the tv show Fallout, movie 'Civil War' old shows like Deadwood older tv series Justified/Fargo, Tokyo Vice and scifi 'LoveDeath+Robots'

Fallout was the best video game adaptation ever made, bar none.

Deadwood was amazing, but they screwed that last season up. They had what should have been the end of the series about an episode or two before the finale and should have ended it there, but then they presented a larger problem which could have lead to an even better season or two in the future but that never happened. It was supposed to be wrapped up in the movie, but then the movie never happened either. Until it did... but by that point everyone who acted in it had aged so much they needed to go a completely different direction with the movie. I never watched the movie because I wanted to rewatch the entire show before I saw it, but after the movie came out I got my old man to watch the show/movie and he said the movie was a satisfying conclusion.

Justified is a treat. Not my usual type of show for sure, but my old man got me to watch that years ago and I enjoyed it to the end.

Fargo is nice because aside from easter eggs each season is completely unreleated to the season before it. I only watched the first 2 seasons but found them very enjoyable. I probably liked season 1 more than season 2, but they both had their good points.

maybe in another universe this became a successful show?

That show was great for low-budget. I think I remember hearing that the actors were demanding a much bigger payday as the show went on and that might have been a reason for the cancellation? Make sure you see whether or not it had a satisfying end before you invest the time so you don't Sarah Conner Chronicles yourself. I only watched the first two seasons.

Did you ever watch The 100? That show was far better than it had any right to be since it was aired originally on the WB. I didn't finish the show, but I saw probably 3 seasons of it. I've always meant to get back to that one too.

I still haven't watched Episode 5. It's hard getting back into it when you've got to wait a week in between.

I think it's a pity that they don't do "previously on Dark Matter". When those are done right they really serve the purpose of reminding you of things that are going to be pertinent in the current episode.

I'll watch it. Just not sure when.

Dark Matter 2024 I'm going to return to this show maybe binge watch. Interesting support characters in Dark Matter 2024 but also Two interesting stories happening here.

‘Farscape’ was probably one of the more out there shows, very impressive puppets

The new Dark Matter maybe a little of 2012 'Continuum' or 2002 Odyssey-5 in the show, still getting sliders vibes maybe a little V or 'The Pretender'

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/continuum/s01

There is a bit of 'Pirate' to these types of story a little hint of people abandoned as punishment or a cruel trick and rebellion and loot or booty, there are real-life examples Edward England is known today as one of the more humane pirate captains of the Golden Age of Piracy. The mutiny on the Bounty, the Dutch Netherlands a soddomite butt bandit left behind Leendert Hasenbosch, more Holland perverts and those who were accused of sodomy and marooned on separate islands of the Mangrove Group, the lost Lapérouse expedition, casting some people adrift on the ocean in a tiny boat, the marooned or 'Marooning' the intentional act of abandoning someone in an uninhabited are. The new Cylons in the Battlestar remake were impostors also, 12 Monkeys and a guy trying to fix everything 2015-2018, the German science fiction program “Dark” where people vanished, a mystery criminal in “Timeless” or Journeyman 2007 a cult hit.

When they first escape Jimmi Simpson's character Ryan is left behind with a bunch of bad people maybe unintentionally as the two escape
'Charlie' is a part of the plot being a main character

silly scifi? in a new world there is always a Single English Language Planet

The good thing about jumping to another world or another scifi planet is
English will always be spoken, the Alphabet the same no Soviet Russia Cyrillic script no Japan invading California and people writing German or Japanese.
Animals are almost the same no poisonous flying dinosaur
if you use a computer or library or phone everything is where it should be in the new world.
Currency the same US Dollars so your credit cards work and you can buy stuff with the cash in your pocket
Medical warnings and pills are similar, the period table of Chemistry has the same names
Everyone counts the same not a strange Binary base 2, not 5s not 12s, Babylonian numerals no Aztec, not Octal, not Celtic Vigesimal, not confusing Rome mixes of Letters and Numbers the Roman fractions, Kaktovik numerals, not Quadravigesimal, not Chinese Tetrasexagesimal, not Hexadecimal, not Bijective base-26 not some other ancient numeral systems, the warning signs and street lights are the same and the clocks are 24 hours in two am and pm periods of 12 hours

1
Jason-1 freed by Amanda Lucas now doing their lost in space thing...romance side, Unrequited Love, platonic relationship? X-Files again?...trying to find his way home Quantum Leap style or Battlestar Galactica
2
Jason-2 who stole someone's life and moved from Earth-2 into Earth-1 and it turns into an impostor story with Daniela and son

There might also be a question to find the impossible item...the vials, Ampoule being the 'Potion' it helps them jump across worlds, a magic Bullet or super pure water cures, the enchanted holy weapons or magic keys to open a door...usually tv shows ignore that they are running out of power and bullets and movies do it also with Impossible Magic Items Dropped?

maybe they will go to a world with someone dying who offers them a bag of 'magic science stones' or the vials?

It's interesting the visuals and fx they are doing with the budget I will go back to Dark Matter, the visuals are excellent I'm not sure what they spent on tv it can be anywhere between 450 K 500,000 thousand to $4 Million Per Episode, Stargate franchise made episodes for 1-2 million, Japan would make some martial arts toon thing for 90K ish maybe $100,000 but then Amazon The Rings of Power came along and did a whole other level of stupid, Fallout I think was 150 million

ER and Game of Thrones is when everything changed, ER had expensive actors while Game of Thrones set the standard for big production and new expensive sets

The production on Dark Matter although not Game of Thrones level it is impressive

How will they get the 2 main worlds to re-join.
You could even say story-2 is like 'Misery' the Brian De Palma Sisters, or 'Single White Female' or the talented 'Black Swan' dancer but the obsession role is played by a man
I also get a little of 'Rear Window' for some reason, maybe cameras watching everything in those science rooms or the visuals maybe look at the house from outside

I'm not sure how they would get these 2 separate Jason1 and Jason2 stories to rejoin or if they ever truly join-up

Capgras delusion or Folie à deux the French for "madness of two" or Capgras syndrome

Checking imdb I forgot about 'Mystique' or the Xmen franchise was full of interesting 'impostor' moments

There was a movie The Invasion 2007 I seen the trailer maybe it has a little of this but that's more 'Body Snatchers'

I had to kind of skim past your posts today and I'm skipping the articles for now just because I didn't want any spoilers. I still haven't watched episode 5 or 6 yet.

I did see that you mentioned 2007's The Invasion. I don't particularly recommend that one unless you're a superfan of the Body Snatchers vibe. I consider myself part of that culture, and I didn't care much for The Invasion. I can't list any complaints specifically, especially since I saw it all the way back in 2007 or 2008, but I couldn't even tell you one thing about it other than it's a Body Snatchers flick.

I have vivid memories of many scenes in the 50's version, the 70's version and the 90's versions. I have vivid memories of scenes from even off-brand Body Snatchers movies like The Puppetmasters, which brought in Donald Sutherland as an obvious nod to the most exceptional of the Body Snatchers movies. (If you somehow haven't seen The Puppetmasters yet, that's a recommendation from me).

I think The Invasion was just typical Hollywood cash-grab mentality. They didn't have anything new to say. It was just time to make another movie about the IP. Maybe the rights were near expiration date if they didn't. I'd say the best thing to come of the 2007 version was that the internet was in full effect already when it came out and it probably turned people on to previous, superior versions of the franchise they might not have known existed otherwise.

ETA: Oh... I should mention that I can't blame my history of drinking problems on not remembering The Invasion. At the time I saw it, I had only seen the 50's version and the 90's versions. I remember watching all of them again right after watching the Kidman version, which was the first time I saw the 70's version and it was terrifying. I've since watched that movie twice and even watched the 90's version again, but never had any desire to go back to 2007's version.

Seriously though... That dog with a human face scene in Sutherland's version is the stuff of sleep paralysis demon nightmares.

Shit dude. Gets me every time I watch it. One of the best horror scenes ever created, IMO.

I'll never forget that scene for the rest of my life and I was probably around 28 years old when I saw it. I wonder how much more impact it would have made had I seen it around the same time I watched The Thing for the first time with my old man when I was 5 years old.

Jason-1 vs J-2

I didn't need a recap since I wrote a lot about the Dark Matter 2004 tv show in this thread

but if it gets more layered I can see why they would need a 'Previously on Battlestar' or 'Previously on Farscape' style recap

How far are you? Don't want to discuss any spoilers. I'm curious what twists you did not expect.

I actually finally got around to watching Episode 5 just now.

Quite a bit of character development with a huge helping of Existential Dread.

I'm still loving it.

There is one part that's about 4 minutes long that I just loved, but I can't talk about it until I know you watched episode 5.

I love shows like this that make you think about choices and how you think you would handle situations outside of the mundane. It's really good writing when you can empathize with and understand the motivations behind character's decisions. Especially when when they're making really bad choices.

Slowly, Jason is wising up:

I'm leaving a world today where our boy made it.
Where Max is alive.
I almost took that Jason's life the same way mine was taken.
But I realized something.
I need my life and my family, no one else's.
I used to think that life was about reaching some perfect destination.
Because I hadn't reached it yet, I felt somehow ill at ease.
But I had seen the perfection.
I had reached it, and I'm starting to suspect that it is the imperfections of life that amount to a different kind of perfection.
I just wanna be home . . . back on the journey . . . with this version of you.

I actually got all caught up last night after writing that post and finished through episode 7 too. I hear there is 8 episodes.

I have not heard anything about whether this is a one season show or if they plan on more seasons. But I see what you're talking about with the conclusion being lined up now. I had a feeling while episode 7 was wrapping up that the story will probably finish at episode 8. I suppose they could milk this for more seasons if they wanted to, but I think it would have to do with the box and the potentialities of the box, rather than the characters that are in the show right now. They could bring some of the characters back, I suppose... But they'd have to be really good at explaining why they're even involved anymore. I can't imagine anybody we know right now ever wanting anything to do with that box after all of this is over. And god forbid that box ever fell into government hands. That would be the end of all the universes.

Thanks for pointing out that Roxanne Dawson was Torres. I wouldn't have known that otherwise. It's one more think I'll tell my old man about it, since Voyager was his favorite Star Trek.

The part I was talking about after watching episode 5 was the scene where they went to the world where those beastly looking hornets had killed everybody on the planet and they found Blair. That she could make that place her home for months rather than take a chance to find a better one. Even when her friend finds her, she can't summon up the courage to go with them and take another chance because of the horrors she's seen.

At least she would not give her remaining ampules to them because part of her felt that she might have what it takes to make that journey one day, but you get the feeling that it's also a trip that she might never make. She would rather spend the rest of her life feeding that generator and putting on a hazmat suit and layers of clothing to go outside in the swarms to scavenge for food only to come back to a dark room and nothing but her own solitude rather than try to find a world that was at least more hospitable to human life. She's living out Tom Hanks' "Cast Away", but she's got a plane ride off of the island.

Fear of the unknown is a very powerful demotivator.

I REALLY like that in episode 6 they brought up the idea of how futile it would be to try to find your exact world when the nature of infinity means that the hardest part was not finding worlds that weren't destroyed and dangerous, but trying to find the one where some minor, inconsequential thing wasn't different and you weren't already there. (Do you remember on Sliders that episode where he found his way home, but he left because the gate on his parents white picket fence didn't squeak? And you find out right after they all leave for the next world that his father had finally got around to putting oil on the gate hinges after all those years?)

And it was really good how they started walking a tightrope down the dark path too. Where he broke into "his" house with the same key to the house on his world and watched the both of them sleeping, contemplating killing the other version of him to have what was his... even if it meant that they weren't really his. They had to do this, because it was another version of him who started all of this in the first place and we already know what another version of him who lived a different life is capable of.

And on that note, I'm not nearly as disappointed about the Face/Off love story aspect as I thought I was going to be. I wanted this to be bigger than that, but with the writing and the acting on display here it doesn't need to be any bigger than that. The characters are all expertly crafted and their motivations are very clear and relatable.

And that scene where the two versions of him walk into the same gun store asking nearly the same question about getting a gun was great.

Very much looking forward to the conclusion next week.

Ok I must say SixString thanks for putting me onto this new Dark Matter show. I think I should search for this guy's book I'm maybe going to drive some dozens of miles maybe 24 mile or for those in Euroland metric more 40 km, search some old Novel DVD Book places if they are still open and look for something wrote by 'Blake Crouch' not on the net but a book I can physically buy and read, most DVD place might be closed, I know a lot of old book sellers still open.

Prediction Observation
'Jason' an actor name, it pops up common as name but also a good name for a bad guy, going on adventures try Jason and the Argonauts, loss of memory try Jason Bourne, wars and blood and girlfriends killed and occult murder then Jason Voorhees for example stab slash stab slasher horror films

My predictions - not always correct I admit but I think they change it, they will introduce a new timeline or world and go Man in the High Castle style...Jason-The-3rd-Stalin-Hitler is introduced.
They wrap it up in the last episodes or so...roads never taken but it changes....
but as it seems like its about to be a happy ending, they introduce Jason-3 who is a Multi-Universe spanning 'Vilos Cohaagen' so by indorducing a 3rd Jason it seems Jason-2 is not that evil and instead a new Jason-3rd will be introduced not like Jason-1 and even far worse than Jason-2...in fact Jason-2 is running from Jason-3 but as he ran to different worlds, Jason-2 is bad-ish got distracted and seduced, the new Jason-3 is basically Vader, a really evil Joe Stalin Adolf Hitler mustachio villain which explains why Jason-2 is not so bad and didn't kill Jason 1 during the first kidnapping, even wanted to offer the kidnapped Jason-1 riches and unfortunately went a little nuts and maybe Jason-2 watching Jason-1 went insane and felt some connection while stealing and destroying the lives of people...he's bad but a different shade of bad compared to what is yet to come.

I'm not sure how you would write beyond multi-verse evil Jason-3

I'm not sure how a writer would wrap it up fitting 'Ryan' who never gets a break, the kid Charlie and therapist girlfriend Amanda in all this, maybe an event happens that allows another kidnapping or marooning that links to Season 2 ...unless I have predicted all of the future writing beyond ep 7 incorrectly the author has the plot figured out and warped it all up in the books?

maybe I'm trolling or joking a little

Jason-1 then J-2, J-3
they will keep going with this pattern until they introduced a Trumpist Orange Haired J-6

Ok I found this guy's books Blake Crouch, I should be finished 'Dark Matter' novel soon, its an easy read a fast paced book and page turner. Half way through the book Chapter 7 I think you are only ep1-2 into the tv show, the book is good but the tv show has filled it out a bit more, I respect the book for its originality and it is very good at getting inside the head of the person but maybe just maybe the tv show does one or two things a little better which isn't really a surprise since its a team of writers developing stuff for tv vs one single writer of a novel.

Your prediction wasn't that far off, but was entirely off at the same time.

Have you seen Episode 8 yet? I'm amazed right now. I didn't see that coming, and I'm only just a little bit mad at myself for that. They got me good.

I'm blanking out the rest for spoilers just in case you haven't watched the last episode man...

I'm perfectly fine with them ending this exactly the way that they did and would not be disappointed at all if they never make a Season 2. Pure "Black Mirror" nightmare fuel.

I mentioned a few episodes back how glad I was that they went into the topic of how finding the correct universe that EXACTLY matched his own would be virtually impossible because of how many universes would have been almost carbon copies of each other with only superficial differences that hardly anybody would ever notice. But this....?

And they actually had me feeling awful for about 5 minutes there when it looked like Jason 2 killed Jason 1 within the first few minutes of the episode. I thought to myself "well... I guess this story is about Daniella and the kid now. How do they get out of this safely?".

I honestly have no idea what just happened. I don't think watching it over and over and over again would make it any clearer either.

At no point in the episode, at least from anything I could tell, do you know which Jason is which. You want to believe the Jason you end up following to the end is the "right" Jason, but why? Just because he was the first of possibly INFINITE Jasons that will eventually make their way back to talk to her? At least the first one had different clothes. By the end they didn't.

Daniella's no dummy. In that last scene, that wasn't the look of a woman who was still pissed off at the wrong guy. That was the terror of a woman who just got all of this dropped on her an hour before and now she's got all the same thoughts as I do running through her head.

How do I know that you're MY Jason???

Oh yeah...

And we've got no reason to even believe the explanation for the multiple Jasons that we were told through the conversation of Jason 1.x and Jason 1.x. They couldn't know that for sure. If it came to both of them so easily now, why wouldn't they have thought about that horrible consequence of ever opening the box in the first place when they were creating it? Jason 2 didn't appear to ever worry that was going to be a problem until it was either. At least he made no preparations for it.

That's not a gripe. Just an observation that possibly nobody in the show could actually explain what was happening. I have another completely rational explanation for it...

There were at least 5 or 6, but as many as INFINITE "Jason 1s" that were kidnapped from 5 or 6 to INFINITE alternative universes and replaced by 5 or 6 to INFINITE "Jason 2s". And what we're seeing is one universe where 5 or 6 to INFINITE "Jason 1s" mistakenly think that this was their world and that was their family and their Jason 2. For all we know, there wasn't a single "Jason 1" in Episode 8 that found his correct home. Hell... we don't even know if any one of them we saw in Episode 8 was even the Jason 1 that we were following the entire show. And to take that even a step further, we don't even know if the Jason 1 we were following from Episodes 2 through 7 was even the same Jason 1 that got kidnapped in the first episode.

Jesus Christ... You could even keep taking that further. What if the the creators of the show thought of that already and if you were to rewatch every episode you found that there were intentional, extremely subtle differences between Jasons and Amandas. And they were intentional because each episode was showing us a different Jason and Amanda from a different parallel world all sharing the identical journey back home?

Mind blown.

I hate to say it... I only have one gripe. But it's really the only way that they possibly could have dealt with that plot hole with the limited time they had in the final episode and they had to leave the scene in for the action/drama of it. ... and I'm REALLY hoping that this scene either wasn't in the book(s) at all or was done a lot more cleverly... I'm referring to the part where Jason 2 killed Jason 1.x in the bathroom at the college. I thought to myself... How the hell is he going to get out of this one.

Super easy, barely an inconvenience it would seem. He just sat the corpse up on the toilet and locked the door and left. That's some good forward thinking. Maybe Jason 2's planet never invented DNA testing yet? I don't care if he looked like a bum and you took his wallet. What do you think the chances are that this wasn't going to come back to haunt you one way or another are, Jason 2?

Normally I'd say... "Hey... You're probably safe.", since you're not a rich and famous dude on "Earth 1". At least not on the books anyway. But that whole Ryan situation went south pretty damn fast and you were already going to have your hands full with the police and trying to make everyone believe that he was the crazy one. Yanno... The police that have been sniffing their nose all around you for weeks now and know exactly what you look like. Might be weird if one of them notice a middle-aged guy who popped up dead on a toilet of a library of the college you graduated from and he looks exactly like you.

That scene is probably my only problem with the entire series. They had plenty enough action going on for the rest of that episode to keep many people from thinking too hard about it though. It probably went completely unnoticed by most folk.

Holy shit man... Well done to everybody involved with this show.

If you make a Season 2, make it count. Otherwise you're just devaluing a masterpiece like they did when they put the Matrix sequels out there.

Goddammmmmmmmit!!!!!!

THAT WAS THE PERFECT ENDING TO THE SHOW.

I just found out there is an episode 9 coming out on Wednesday. I don't know where I heard there were only 8 episodes, but I'd heard that very early on and just thought that was the case. Both my brother and my old man watched it last week and "finished" it before I did. My old man thought the ending was "great" and he said they could leave it like that or definitely put another season on it. But we haven't discussed it at all because I didn't want any spoilers.

They both think that's the ending too since that's what I told 'em.

Fuck....

I don't know what I want to do man. I just said that if they make a Season 2 they'd better make it count because anything less than amazing would devalue Season 1.

Now I have to decide if I want to even watch the final episode or not.

Jeez....

I guess I probably have to. I put a whole lot of possibilities of questions I thought we'd never get answers to and maybe one or two of them are addressed.

I really don't want to though. I loved the ending of Episode 8 as the ending to the entire series.

This show has managed to surprise me with how well it can surprise me, but does it keep that edge up to the very last minute? I don't see how their ending could match what I thought was their ending until 10 minutes ago.

I never watched the final episode of The Sopranos, even though I've seen every episode of it otherwise two times.

I'm just afraid that watching the final episode instead of stopping at 8 here would be like watching the last few episodes of Deadwood when the climax already happened and the new story they were just starting to tell got cancelled before they could finish it.

How they going to wrap that up in an hour?

Have you seen Episode 8 yet? I'm amazed right now. I didn't see that coming, and I'm only just a little bit mad at myself for that. They got me good.

I'm fine on spoilers, I went for a drive looking for some old Novel DVD Book places
I found a place for second hand novels, comics, books place and bought some of his books and 'Dark Matter' is an easy read, I read it in a little over a day, first day I mostly had a lot of time free...but maybe it can be read in 2-3 days or depending if you've free time, you might read in 24 hrs and youre an ok reader you should get through most of it.
The book and show are similar but they go on different paths, the show might leave it open for another story, the show and book are already different.

Another one of the things the show does better, 'Max' grief
in the book there is no Twin named Max

The character Amanda barley exists in the book at times.

The book Jason is more of a loser cuck bum, he literally goes into homeless drunk mode and gets robbed the vials smashed.

In the show you have a visual hint, Jason1 has a slight scar cut across his nose everyone else has different baggage and experienced life differently. Despite all the crazy stuff happening the dice are falling and he still looks at life with some empathy and optimism, he has his own quirky wisdom that helps him link up to the family.
You are depending on the visual fx cgi guys or make-up art department to keep that scar across and near his nose.

The books? Jason-1 is First perspective and you read close to him that's how you know its Japosn1, there is no real 2nd person perspective, only maybe during computer stuff, you might find it during written instruction in a assemble manual or a religion guidance book, 2nd is tough to write but I think there are examples mrs dalloway by Virginia Woolf?
Third perspective is common in the book, and in stories of tension and 'suspense' the other Jason's seen like a Fly on the Wall perspective so you know that Jason-1 is Real-Jason as it is written in the 'First Perspective'
Reading books they can split people by writing 'main character' in first perspective, others not 2nd but third in others books they might go really out there universal crazy
There might also be a Schizo Perspective in some other scifi books, Dr Doom or Venom or Joker... Doom somewhat omniscient for example in a comicbook or cartoon will often refer to himself in the third person, Fourth and Fifth person is when it gets weird and is less defined, some say fourth is like a political movement 'us' lots of ours and we, maybe Ghosts talking as a group or 'TheBorg'.
You almost always know its Jason-1 in the books by reading his personal feelings, its as if you hear his inner thoughts like a person saying to themselves 'I want to go back to my wife and son.'
In the novels you know its Jason-1 by where the writer sets the scene and is looking from. If you write say 'fan fiction' then you can layer even more in your stories, you can write in the 2nd but its difficult, it would be following radio commands for example, a cryptic religion scifi psychic scroll message, following someone on the phone, a speaker giving info in the bunker or silo, instruct the chief of police to bring prisoners for interrogation. The third person describes characters from a bit of distance, like you are hearing distant story or watching film footage, the third person when used in a thrill or romance can add a feeling of voyeurism or like you are being tacked or stalked or followed.
Jason-1 is wrote as 1st in the books with more personalization maybe 'intimacy'.
I will admit the show might be better than Dark Matter Novel, the show kind of improves on a number of things but there are parts of the book I also like. The show has more writers so it had a change to always be better and kind of does the drama thing better on tv although I respect the books he writes.

His style of writing in his novels are kind of made for tv

I don't think there are spoilers here since you are near the end in the books

not sure there will be a second season

I appreciate you not spoiling anything there while discussing the differences between the book and the movie. I was being real careful as I read.

Thanks for the insight.

Did you see Episode 8 yet? If you have, I'm curious what you thought about the ending and if you thought that would have been as great of an ending as I thought it was for the series.

I think I'm going to watch the real final episode tomorrow when it comes out. I hope I'm not disappointed, although I can't think of a way where I wouldn't be. What I really don't want to see is some bullshit happy Hollywood ending using some Deus Ex Machina that changes all the rules last minute to wrap it all up in an hour.

I don't necessarily want a BAD ending, but that's why the ending to Episode 8 was the perfect ending to the series. The ambiguity. Leaving it up to the viewer to ponder and come up with their own infinite possibilities about how everything could play out from there.

Jason 1 making it back to his family and they all live happily ever after when the odds of that would be the equivalent of winning the Powerball while being struck by lightning twice isn't going to cut it.

But whatever the true ending is, there should be some hope left in there too. Maybe people don't get the happy ending they wanted, but they leave in just enough to give you the sense that everything could still work out.

Oh... and you mentioned the scar on his nose...

Yeah. That's true. But at the same time, there could be an infinite number of Jason-1.x's out there that have that same scar on their nose too. I'm not convinced at all that the Jason we were following in Episode 8 was the same Jason that we had been following in episodes 1-7, or that any of the Jason's that we followed in any of the episodes were the same Jason for that matter.

Really wild stuff.

Hey Jaynez... I see you haven't replied to this yet.

I'm wondering if you saw it to the end yet or not?

I watched Episode 9.

I took a gamble and had faith that they knew what they were doing and got us this far...

I was not disappointed.

I can think of a whole lot of ways they could have finished this poorly, and it was nothing even remotely close to any those. I'm supremely satisfied with the path they chose to end this series.

It went places that I did not imagine it would go, and it was all the better for it. Every deliberate choice. They managed to give it a Hollywood Ending, despite also giving us the exact opposite of that at the same time... ultimately finding a way to end this show in such a manner that it was unlike anything I have ever experienced before.

I'm very happy I watched it to the end. I Have zero complaints. It's one of the best TV shows I have ever watched. From my limited perspective, I would argue that it was one of the greatest TV shows ever made.

My sincere congratulations to everyone involved in this production.

Season 2 is completely unnecessary, and I hope that we never see anyone announce it.
