Seriously, it was a great movie back in the day, but with CGI it could be AWESOME now!!! If ANY old flick is in need of a do-over, it's that one.

Agree?

I don't think you could replace the ending of the original film.

Not replace, just augment. Given my drothers, I'd just redo the FX in B&W and leave it at that- it's really a great film.

I can see why. Most people will never rent or by the original. People want color and new. So if it can bring the essence of the original to a new audience, then I am for it.

But I see what they did to "3:10 to Yuma" and I want to scream.

You know, they don't have to remake EVERY movie...

Hey Big 'C' give me the budget I'll make it for you. :D

Although I wouldn't go for CGI at all, just crazy gigantic sets with in camera trickery. It's amazing what you can do with a false perspective set, and with the advancements of animatronics (such as Stan Winstones' studios works) I reckon you could pretty much do a full scale tarantula and edit it in such a way to make it very convincing!

And yeah no need to alter the ending that's the very essence of what the character is going through.

What about Alan Tudyk in this role? He'd have just the right amount of humour and pathos for Scott Carey.

Remake? Hell NO! Double hell no!
It would look something like a cross between Honey I Shrunk The Kids and Incredible Shrinking Woman, except it wouldn't even be half as good as those two movies. Look at the track record of re-makes of classic 50's & 60's sci fi. By and large they all suck the big one. Shrinking Man was low budget, b&w, wonderfully hand-crafted special effects, believeable no-name actors, and it was a pure masterpiece.

I agree, Jong. How about just digitally removing matte lines & providing a colourized option then?

I remember as a kid, being there at that fence with him after killing the spider, the incredible feeling of looking out into an unknown world, and hearing that moving message of hope. It still gives me chills today.

Yes, clean it up. Maybe add some sepia tones, and re-release with extras (if any exist) on the dvd.

It's never been about "have to".

Yeah. That was the first full-length movie I ever saw as a little kid in the mid-sixties. No wonder I am like I am, eh?
