Okay, we have the sci-fi thread, but what are the NON-sci-fi movies which you could - or could NOT - stand to see remade?

I've got a few of both kinds, and some of them may come across as blasphemous.

Movies I could stand to see remade:

Dirty Harry - the whole series, really. I think Timothy Olyphant could play Harry quite well.

I'd really like to see the Tom Clancy stuff done well, and with the same cast, the way they did with the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter stuff.

Movies that should never be touched:

A Man For All Seasons. It's perfect already. Plus, The Tudors has recently tread so much of the same ground, often using the same dialog, almost word for word.

I'm sure more will come to mind. What are yours?

NON-SF films???
Do we care?
Are we caring about such stuff?

How about Ghandi, starring a, you know, real INDIAN actor???

Remo Williams (The Destroyer) needs a re-make, BADLY (again, with a, like, real ASIAN actor!!!)!!!

Dirty Harry flicks are fine relics- not to be touched IMO.

Ordinary People could be remade for the new century.

The Big Chill could be re-made as The Big Text.

Man does not live by sci-fi alone. And if he does, he likely doesn't get a chance to pass his genes along. ;)

What, you're not down with a Brit playing the guy who helped lead India out of colonialism?

Keep talking... You've got my attention...

See, I love them, but I could stand to see them brought up to date a bit. Not sure how they'd do the whole pay-phone-chase-scene thing, what with all the pay phones being hard to find thing these days, but still...

Yeah? Timothy Hutton as the dad, maybe? ;)

Would Adam Baldwin still get to be in it? (Go look for yourself, see if I'm lyin'!)

Would Kevin Costner still get to NOT be in it? (Go look for yourself, see if I'm lyin'!)

LWAVES

Guarded by 'Top Men':

The Man With No Name Trilogy
Unforgiven
Shawshank Redemption - Don't even think about thinking about it.
Blues Brothers
Goodfellas
Godfather 1+2

Go ahead, remake my day:

Dirty Harry(s) - great films that are dated these days but could they really work as a modern version?
Excalibur/King Arthur - a remake of sorts just wishing they'd do a really really good verion of the legend. Excalibur is good but not great.

Oooh - No Name Trilogy! Yeah, don't touch those. It would only screw 'em up. They're silly, they're campy, they're fun. Perfect the way they are.

Agreed on Excalibur. We really do need a GREAT (serious) version of the Arthurian tales.

Y'know, I really liked the one with Jonathan Pryce.

And on that note - never remake Raiders.

Ever.

(It's not sci fi, is it?)
