I just ordered it.
http://www.amazon.com/Revell-RMXS6442-Colonial-Viper/dp/B000JSNYX8/ref
=pd_sbs_t_1

I made this model back in 1979, when it had no cockpit. So I made one (not easy). In the many moves since then, it broke.
Then, my Mom-in-law threw out a wing thinking it was just junk.

I can't wait to do it again!! On a proper stand & such.
My best model up to this point is the Flying Sub...

I *will* change that!

Modelers, please post your great stuff!

I agree wholeheartedly!

I don't do models any more. Now-a-days, I just buy the die-cast or vintage plastic ones.

My favorite by far is the Serenity ornament by Dark Horse (comes with a cool stand, I took the string off too) and the Hasbro Titanium Millenium Falcon. The scale is almost right when the sit side by side.

I did pick them up, the big one and the small one. Neither is the right scale with Serenity, at least no to my eye, but then the dimensions for the Falcon are.... debatable.

I managed to find the Ertyl Buck Roger Starfigher as well. Not keen on the yellow retractable wings on the big one or the 'child safety' bars on either size.

Yup, and the small version. I was lucky. I found it at a discount toy warehouse.

Now the Galactica, I can't find for under $50.

I did manage to get the original series Viper from Hasbro as well as the new versions. The look AWESOME together on my shelf.

I'll try and snap some pics.

I just broke out the *box* O' stuff, and it had my Galactica (Gods I did a good job on that 30 yahren ago), a Firefox built from kitbashing a supersonic plane model, a Batmobile from the first Keaton flick, and my beat-up Viper, which my Son is even now attempting to fix for me...

I sometimes forget how many models I have worked on.

My older stuff and more:

Needed almost no paint.

Rare. Try finding THIS for sale. I found ONE in the U.S.

My kitbashed Mig-31. Not bad for the time I invested.

The Viper after Sonisall fashioned a wing replacement for me.

An all-toothpick Dodge Charger by Sonisall.

Wow, I almost forgot I even HAD this!

By 'kitbashed' do you mean made of bits from other models? I ask coz the area behind the Firefox cockpit doesn't look quite right.

Love the others though, especially the Batmobile and Galactica. Can't place the last one but I think I should know it. What's it from?

As for the toothpick Charger then that just screams 'too much time'. Is the galleon in the photo behind the charger a toothpick one as well or is it plastic.

Yeah, and the intakes are too close together too. It was this kit:

That I re-worked to get the Mig-31. Not perfect, but pretty close.

Looks like the plane Clint Eastwood flew in I think the movie was called Firefox?

I'm jealous of your Galactica.

Here's a couple of pics of some of the ships I've collected. I'm going to have to go via models to get some of the missing ships and fighters. I've got a scale hang-up. In that ultimately I want to collect them is the same scale when I can.

That an affirmative (you must think, in Russian).

There's one on Ebay for like, 35 bucks I believe, (Or WAS, last time I looked...).
It was a super easy one to make, too. If memory serves, it was 8 pieces!!!

I see a possible future in the prop/set departments of some movie studio. Get him to Hollywoodyland now. We need a new Stan Winston - it could be him.

He greatly appreciates your comment, LW. And he says that CGI is highly over-rated as a tool.

I say that it's a tool in the toolbox, not to be ignored nor over-used.

I completely agree that it's a tool within a toolbox. Especially in this day and age of digital film etc I think it is an essential tool. But, as you say, it can be overused to detrimental effect (CGI Yoda in the SW prequels). But then you also get films like LOTR, Potter and Avatar that couldn't achieve their look without extensive CGI. It definitely has it's place but then so do models and traditional techniques. I think of LOTR (again) that used, relatively simple, split screen shots for characters of different sizes. Jurassic Park combined models and CGI in the same shots. Moon used models with very little CGI and looked stunning.
The best CGI shots are the ones where you can't tell its CGI. It allows film makers to shoot the way they want without having to work the shot around cables etc because they know it can be taken out later.

Both have their place it's just how they are used that makes them good or bad.

Well Herbie is an easy one. But I don't recognize the other two in the archway.
If it wasn't a VW then what was it?
Surely it would be easier to get a VW and do a repaint - but it may not be his way to take this easiest route.

If he's up for some suggestions and he likes the cars then how about:
KITT and/or KARR
The General Lee
Christine - the '58 (or '59 depending on your take) Plymouth Fury from the movie of the same name. Depends if you're willing for him to see a horror movie.
Bandit One

Just suggestions if he feels like it.

We couldn't find a real, NORMAL beetle anywhere!!!So he added extensions to & tore off parts from this 'characature' of one.

The Coyote from Hardcastle and McCormick (sp?), or Speedbuggy from the cartoon of the same name.

Some other suggestions that as a kid in the *cough* 70's *cough* I tried to do myself. I had a number of General Lee clones until they released an actual set.

Chris, the Viper is a completed plactic model that has the feel of an actual assemble-yourself feel to it. In that it's fragile. Made by Joyride and not nearly as good a quality as the Hasbro X-Wing beside it, but it'll have to do. I have the Cylon Raider as well, but am afraid to take it out of the package.

I never had rhe Moonbus...I did see it once in a department store , all waxed-up and walrus-y.

It was interesting to see all the bits in the box.

If one could be found today , it'd be out-of-reach pricewise...

I regret not having gotten the Fine Molds Falcon in 1/72 , or the Captain Cardboard studio-scale X-Wing.

Were I to return to collecting these gems I would start with The Falcon, then Serenity.

Those are some really shiny models guys. Thanks for sharing (it brought me back a few).

Falcon
Serenity
Batmobile (Classic TV 1960s)
Black Beauty
Tron Light Cycle
DeLorean

Just to name a few. I once did like building models when I was a kid. Mostly cars, but once built a aircraft carrier. I was mostly into comic books.
