Forget which show you like better... which DESIGN is more aesthetically appealing?

For me, the original wins by a slim margin.
How about y'all?

I concur...The second-series Vipers are more refined and plausible.

The first-series models looked like...models.

MOOSE

I'm going with the newer version for the reasons above.

But, it is very close.

I'm going to differ from most of you above because I prefer the original Viper. It is a close call because the new Viper MkII's look fantastic and handle even better but there's just something about the original that has always stayed with me. I love the three 'wings', the three big engines and the general overall dart shape.
Plus I could add that without the original Viper we wouldn't have the new look Vipers. But that's just stating the obvious.

As for the pilots then the new ones win easily. I never liked the 'flight suits' in the original show either, especially the helmet. As uniforms they were fine but just didn't cut it for space travel. The newer ones look like genuine flight suits and I seem to remember hearing that that's how they were designed, to be as close to functional as possible.

A question for the original poster:

As a writer/editor, I'm curious about word choice. Why "Takin'" rather than "Taking"? Yes, it's only a one character difference, but I'm genuinely curious about the decision behind it.

(By the way, sorry, folks, about the multiple blank posts. That was my toddler "helping" with the laptop...)

I though long an hard about this, and it's a close call for me as well. I was gonna order the Mobius New BSG Viper model OR the Revel Old-style one, but I couldn't get both...
In the end, the older one is the one I fell in love with, the old series is the FUN one, and the new Viper appears to me as more of an atmo fighter than an interstellar one, so my choice ends up being not that difficult.
But I concur with all here in that the 'helmets' & flight suits in the older series were [points thumb downwards].

The original Viper for sure.
I love the way the original Viper exposes part of (what I presume is) the fuel line, coolant pipes and nuts and bolts etc.

The new ones aren't evolved enough to regard them as particularlay different.

It's a close call, but I think I'm still holding onto my memories. I always liked the Old Viper over the X-wing, and was very sceptical of the new series, but the re-imaged Viper is pretty cool. Good attention to traditional style.

So I have to say, by a hair, the re-imaged Viper. Definitely not the amorphous grey blob that they consider the advanced Viper.

Awwww, but the helmets prove that these were "brothers of Man, who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Mayans, or the Toltecs..."

And those jackets and "Snake Plissken" boots were awesome!

Agreed. It's just I really was needing the sense that if the cabin lost atmo the pilot wouldn't, like, DIE or anything...

Ahhhhh! See, I always assumed that the twin rows of lights were setting up a force-field, y'know, like the hangar bays on the Death Star and the space station in 2001. (Can't believe the Battlestar Wiki doesn't even cover the helmets!)

Heh heh, here's a question I asked at a Galactica site on this very thing:
Quote:

Is it conceivable that the helmet, when sensing an atmo loss in the cabin, would produce a force field to protect the wearer from dying? Bits of neck & exposed hands might end up with skin issues, but the pilot would have time to RTB.
Is that possible?

Hmmm, I just thought that the field was in effect whenever those lights turned on.

Those lights are photo-sensors that 'see' a molecule density decrease as air passes into the helmet's opening during inhalation. When a significant or rapid change is detected, the field closes the face portion and seals at the neck. Although the air module can last for 200 centons or more, the field is power intensive, and internal helmet batteries will only last 45 centons unless the external Viper grid jack is plugged in.

Did that sound like I knew what I was talking about there?
