Got me. Oh wait.

Quote from spoilery article:

The idea to bring back Darth Maul came, as many Clone Wars storylines do, from George Lucas.

Ah, well, I stand corrected.

I don't really mind the character coming back, myself. As foir the 10 year gap - I actually like that. One of my biggest complaints with the prequels is that they made the universe feel so small by interconnecting too much. The idea that a prominent character could fly under the radar for a decade actually dails that back a bit, for me.

For the worse it a matter of opinion. I for one think the changes are about 30/70, some changes I absolutely hate - but most of them I think do improve the film.

However, saying the originals are not available is just simply false. They are not available in anamorphic transfers, true. But they are available on DVD, and have been for several years.

And if Joss did do that - at best I would be irritated. I would not, however, start acting as if the man responsible for something I love is suddenly a war criminal, like so many behave in the case of Lucas.

It's clear you could care less about the SW changes....but what about something you really like? I know it's just a "what if" scenario but your "I know best attitude" is really wearing thin. Makes you seem more than a bit pompus.

Funny that you feel that you can tell me how I feel about something, and then call me pompous.

And it's "clear" that YOU think YOU know best in this case, so the irony is doubled.

Fact is, I DO care about Star Wars, it has been a vastly more important and influential in my life than Firefly ever will be.

I just get tired of the hyperbolic tantrums - especially when people get very basic facts - like the supposed unavailability of the films - entirely wrong.

If that's acting like I know best, so be it.

Well, it used to be for me. Star Wars WAS my scifi fandom, hands down. I knew most everything about it, obscure trivia from the extended universe and so on.

There's parts of it I still like, of course, the same things I've always liked. But my journey has been just about the exact opposite from yours - Firefly has beaten it out despite there being so much less of it.

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

Maybe this should have been started on a stand alone thread, but what the heck...

If this has been hashed out before in geek world, I apologize. I just thought of this recently, and hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere. Probably for good reason...

"A long time ago, in a galaxy far , far away... "

Could said galaxy be....our own ?

Think about it, a long time ago, our own galaxy wasn't in the same place as it is today. Sure, relative to other galaxies, it is, but we know that all galaxies are themselves ' on the move'.

I mean, Lucas never said in ANOTHER galaxy.... just "a" galaxy. Could be any one of ... a billion ?

Just a thought.

" I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend. "

They are no longer available on dvd. You can buy them secondhand, but they were pulled shortly after the pre-order for the Blu-ray release went up. The un-anamorphic release as 'bonus content' was a joke. Anyone that owns a widescreen tv nowdays(most people) know that un-anamorphic transfers simply do not work on them. They appear in a box in the middle of the tv(roughly 40% of the tv is utilized).
You can alter it with different modes(Stretch, zoom etc.) but you either distort the picture, or lose information. It was a sham. Not deserving of the OT.

Look Story, I respect your opinon and you have more knowledge about film than most. But your comments sometime come off as snarky, or rude. As far as I know the people on this thread aren't the "fanbois" you speak of. At least I haven't seen any posts that are outlandish.
I think most of us are just casual Star Wars fans that think the original trilogy should be preserved(in the best quality available) for future generations. Star Wars is one of the greatest American movies ever made.

If you haven't seen the movie Fanboys you really should pick it up. It's set before Episode 1 comes out and is really funny for Star Wars fans IMO. It does a really good job of capturing what it was like to be a Star Wars fan before it all went to hell.

I actually didn't think Revenge of the Sith was too bad apart from some cringe-worthy scenes (you know the ones I'm talking about), I even really liked a lot of the social commentary and the fall of Rome parallels.

I tried to like the first one, but apart from the eye candy (beautiful computer generated sets I thought) it just got worse each time I tried to watch it. And that's with me not even caring about the whole midichlorian thing - I more didn't like the ridiculous pod race and the even more ridiculous ten-year-old kid pilot prodigy blows up a space station thing. It's fine in A New Hope, when the said kid-prodigy was like eighteen, and somewhat more believable... Not so much when it looks like the kid can barely see over the nav-console. Also, Anakin looking like a kid made the whole later Padme romance thing kind of a little bit creepy. They should have had an older actor the first film, then used him for all three films.

The only part I liked in the second one was the arena fight and then Yoda going ape crazy in the lightsaber fight (even though it kinda contradicted some of the EU speculation on what differentiates a Jedi master from a Jedi knight).

Pretty good behind the scenes video. Was that an extra on the blu-rays?

ANTHONYT

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I think the 'militant fans' are simply consumers complaining about the declining quality of a product that once met their needs marvelously.

We joke about geeks and nerds but really any avid consumer feels this way about a declining product line. Just listen to a car lover talk about how well cars used to be built.

When a product works well, we sometimes form an emotional attachment to it. It pleases us. The decline of the product saddens or angers us, conversely.
