There's always a chance it could work. If they create strong compelling characters then awesome. However, I don't think it will have anything to do with setting the show in Gotham. Also, I think young Bruce Wayne is a mistake. I really don't want to see him solving crimes or really getting involved. It will just lead to the same issues Smallville had the longer the show went on. Unless you set an end date you don't know how quickly to progress toward the point where they put on the cape. Once you get really close to that point if the show goes on you're really just stuck in neutral.

If Bruce Wayne is there then he's going to draw a lot of fan focus. If he's not the show runners can focus on other characters who likely won't draw the same scrutiny as Bruce Wayne would.

STORYMARK

I was interested when this started out as focused on Jim Gordon as he first joins the Police force. Teenage Bruce Wayne meeting early versions of all his villains - not interested. Not only does it sound like a re-hash of the already lame Smallville, but it ignores that Bruce became Batman by spending those years touring the world and training with many masters - none of which were in Gotham.

"Goram it kid, let's frak this thing and go home! Engage!"
