Anyone remember Genesis II, Planet Earth, The Questor Tapes, or that psi one w/Lenord Nimoy (Who's title escapes me at the moment...)?
My favourite was Planet Earth, w/John Saxon (doing a very good 'Kirk'), it was the cat's whiskers.

I want these ALL on DVD!!!

Hmmmm. The only one of those I think I've seen is the Nimoy one. Hard to say if it was worthy of a dvd. Not good enough to be good not bad enough to be MSTed.

"Assignment: Earth" was technically the pilot episode of a proposed Star Trek: TOS spin-off, even though it was still an actual episode of TOS.

The Nimoy one was the weakest, hence my lazy memory of it's title. But the others I listed were sci-fi gold, as far as I'm concerned!
Especially The Questor Tapes, the 'outsider wanting in' theme as good as it gets, and the absolute template for Data on TNG.

Okay, the other pilot w/Nimoy was Spectre.
It was good, but not great. Came out the same year as Star Wars; that pretty much overshadowed everything that year...

Except Annie Hall

Well I guess the Nimoy show might slide as the weak show of a compilation. And be fair Annie Hall is a good movie.

Good, yes. But more deserving of an Oscar than Star Wars????

The Force apparently has a weak influence on the Oscar voters Chrisisall

Well I will admit the special effects in Annie Hall weren't that spectacular but for everything else.... Yeah, I'd say it deserved an Oscar at least as much.

Star wars revolutionized the sci-fi genre!
Annie Hall just made me pee my kilt with laughter.

Revolution>pee, IMHO.

Not really. Aside from the special effects (which are stunning and were way ahead of the state of the art at the time) Star Wars was a rather derivative piece; a little bit of Kurosowa mixed with some Asimov, a cup of Tolkien, a dash of Herbert, and some vaguely eastern spiritualism. Stir untill most of the lumps are gone and you have Star Wars (later subtitled A New Hope.)

I quite enjoy Star Wars, it's fine escapist fluff, but it isn't a demonstrably better film than Annie Hall.

SW was about hope, determination, and a belief in self. It was a visual style and pace that had not been seen before. It was great.
AH just made with the funny, and started a floppy hat-wearing trend.
You, sir, are a Force-blasphemer, and I declare a jihad against you.

You know what? It's me- after Sleeper, Woody just lost it for me. I am filled with seething hatred. I will not admit that a great film like Annie Hall is any good.

Nope, I'll never say it Chrisisall

Of the pilots you listed, Questor Tapes was by far my favorite. I LOVED that "outsider struggling to fit in" theme. That probably says something about my own adolescence, I suppose...

My recollection is that Questor Tapes was bought to become a series. Then the first writer's strike happened and a lot of new series got canned as the new season was pruned down to bare bones... Questor Tapes was one of the shows that got cut before it ever got made. Of course my memory could be faulty.

I liked Genesis II second best. I thought that Planet Earth was essentially a remake of the Genesis II pilot. Another case of "we like the idea Gene, but can you make the female costumes skimpier and throw in more fist fights?" That's not to say that Planet Earth sucked... but it certainly had a more titillating storyline (male slaves in a female dominated world, all kinds of sexual insinuation goin' on...).

I never saw Spectre.

By the way, I think he means "pretentious,"

1. Claiming or demanding a position of distinction or merit, especially when unjustified.

2. Making or marked by an extravagant outward show; ostentatious.

not "portentous."

1. Of the nature of or constituting a portent; foreboding

2. Full of unspecifiable significance; exciting wonder and awe.

3. Marked by pompousness; pretentiously weighty.

Although, your pompousity does sometimes fill me with exciting wonder and awe. I struggle with those feelings... ;-)

What does SF have against you anyways?

She thinks I have nice eyes, in a pompous way I guess.

I liked the way that the 'bad guy' in Questor Tapes turned out to be an okay dude...

And how about the guy who played Isiah in Planet Earth; finally, a good speaking role (Lurch wasn't one for talk).

And the whole peace message in Genisis 2...Alex Cord (Years before Archangel in Airwolf) was great, I was sad no series came of it.
