Technically the proper name for that particular horror is a Luska.

Based on old school nasty sea monster legends, if ya care to dig through em, some of them are pretty funny, and the rare ones (super-sized longass eel fish thing, and humongous squid) have some small basis, albeit exaggerated, in fact.
