( wasn't sure where to post this, but I figured
here was as good as any )

And it wasn't so much a 'clash', as it was a shouting match. What specifically about, I can't tell, from the article.

Trouble flared at the fourth Norwich Sci-Fi and Film Convention at the University of East Anglia, organised by Norwich Star Wars Club.

Police were called after members of the rival Norwich Sci-Fi club arrived to get autographs from two Doctor Who actors at the event on Sunday.

Norfolk Police confirmed officers attended and spoke to both parties.

A spokesman said they had been called to reports of a man being assaulted at the convention.

This wasn't a fight between Star Wars fans and Doctor Who fans with lightsabers and sonic screwdrivers drawn”

"The two rival groups were spoken to and advised to keep out of each other's way."

Jim Poole, treasurer of Norwich Sci-Fi Club, said there was a history of rivalry and disputes between the two clubs, which both hold their own conventions in the city.

He said he had attended Sunday's event with another club member to get the autographs of actors Graham Cole and Jeremy Bulloch for a Doctor Who diary to be auctioned for charity.

Mr Poole said he was wearing a club top and his fellow member was dressed as the fifth Doctor, as played by Peter Davison.

Jim Poole said there was a history of disputes between the clubs.

He said once inside the hall, he received verbal abuse from a member of the rival club and called the police.

Of course, everyone KNOWS that a sonic screwdriver can disable a lightsabre in no time.

That was funny. All the things I miss because I don't go to conventions.

Sonic tools can affect the force that binds the lightsaber crystals and components together?

(ARGUMENTS COMMENCE)

I'm not much for conventions either, but it's fun to go check them out, if there's one near by. There's a really big one here in Atlanta, DragonCon, which is quite entertaining, regardless of one's fan affiliation.

I went mainly to see our BDH's, of course, and likely would never have bothered to go otherwise, were it not for them.

It's nice people watching, if nothing else.

There are still Star Wars fans? They must be White Walkers.

Sonic screwdrivers can reverse the polarity of the neutron flow in anything causing it to omit sparks and stop working, unless (a) its made of wood or (b) it would spoil the plot.

So a wooden quarterstaff or a simple 2x4 is your best bet against Whovians (actually, works on anything that doesn't have a gun).

Well, I give you props for the exospeak. Polarity of neutrons? That's a thing that happens in Doctor Who?

On the other hand, reversing the spin of neutrons in a large enough mass, probably would stop most anything from working, and release a burst of electrons... And leave a gigantic freaking crater.

I tentatively award the advantage to Whovians over the Force. Also, never try this at home. Ever.

It was say two times by the third Doctor forty years ago. An all time classic example of technobabble.
