Just got Battlestar Galactice S1 (UK version) at Bestbuy, and couldn't resist lookin' at the bonus disk, and wow is it full of stuff that would best be experienced in the theatre! All little things, but I shut it off after 4 of it's 13 minutes! It has a cool interview w/Joss, but I think it shows too much...
Luckily Manticore taught me how to forget stuff.

BTW, BG ROCKS!! This is my first viewing of the series!( I keep lookin' for a Firefly class in the backgrounds...)

Look closely....

EDIT: Whoops! Never mind, the Firefly class appears during the mini-series, not during Season 1 (at least that I know of...)

It's nice that they included a bonus disc, but what other extras does the UK version have? Specifically I'm looking for deleted scenes and COMMENTARY! Commentary should be a no-brainer considering they had it upn their website. I just want it all in one place, you know?

I saw one of those bonus disks on eBay today. if I were to buy it, I think I'd wait 'til after September 30th to watch it.

but seriously though, could someone maybe make a torrent of this 13-minute preview thing?

That's just silly! I bought the BSG dvd solely for the Serenity bonus disc, and it was worth it.

Proud to be spoiler-free and nothing on the disc changed that.

If the UK set doesn't include the original mini-series, you might want to stop and watch it before watching any more of the series, and as Moose pointed out, there is indeed a Firefly class ship in one of the backgrounds. It's early on, before, you know, stuff happens. They won't admit to it on the commentary, but it seems likely BG hired Zoic for the shaky-camera CGI they developed on Firefly.

Lister,
Ain't It Cool News has a notice up about the differences between the Best Buy and Sept. 20th versions of the set:

Quote:

But. If you can hold off another two months, other retailers will make available on Sept. 20 what’s said to be a better, less-expensive season-one “Galactica” set, one that contains not only the first regular season but also the entire 2003 miniseries and commentaries by series creator Ron Moore on the miniseries and nine of the first season’s 13 hours. The five-disc Sept. 20 version is said to contain also deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes material, sketches, art and other extras

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

Lister, the UK BG set (too many abbreviations!!!) only had Deleted scenes as an extra. Granted there's about 50 minutes of them, but no commentaries - I don't think they had been recorded by the time the set was released.

That's why I didn't buy it, and why I still ahven't bought it now that it's being offered on blahdvd.com for £17.99 (half price). Just as they did with the miniseries dvd, the region 1 had a lot more extras than the barebones region 2. I foresaw it happening and so held off buying the set.

The american version of BG is released in Sept. with plenty of extras including the deleted scenes, commentaries AND the miniseries (that wasn't included in the uk set and was only available on it's own)

Deleted scenes are the only extra I need, and I already owned the miniseries. So the Uk version is the only one I am getting (uh...got).

I don't know about you guys, but come the end of September I'll only have ONE thing on my mind, and it ain't gonna be Galactica!!! So I'm gonna watch the Quan-Ying outta this set now, while I can concentrate!

Wow, it's hard to believe that the miniseries will be included as well seeing as how you can buy that right now. I would think it would cut into those sales. However, the quality of that DVD is questionable at times so if I have to get it again then so be it. Hopefully it will look better. I'll just give away the old one to someone else.

The way BG is shot (digitally, I assume), I think the existing dvd's have it about as good as it's gonna get, what with the grainyness and all. Notice that the FX shots have the least grain cause they're done on different equiptment, or something ( I'm not a tech-head, someone on here can probably explain it much better than I can...), if it was the quality of the transfer, it would look questionable on those shots too, right?

Richard Hatch was awsome in ep 3!!!!!

Can I just say 'Huh?'

I bought both the Battlestar Galactica Mini-Series and Season 1 boxed sets as soon as they came out and they certainly didn't have any Serenity stuff with them...

Where the gui did this stuff come from?

Twelve spheres of unendurable brightness spalled the velvety blackness of space.

And then the spell was broken as Shannon Foraker looked up from her console from where she had just sent a seemingly innocent command to the main computers of State Security's finest Superdreadnoughts.
"Oops." She said.

There's a little sticker on the box that says Bonus Serenity Sneak Peek, while supplies last. If you got yours last tuesday when it came out, I have no idea why supplies didn't last!?
Put a scratch on one disk, and take it back for one with the Serenity bonus disk!!! Immediatly!!! But don't watch it until after Sept. 30!!! It's not that it's got spoilers, it just shows too much in the way of memorable lines that will probably get a bigger reaction from you if you don't expect them.
But if you just can't resist, it's priceless!
Uhh, you did buy them in the U.S., right?

That's probably the problem... I bought the UK version in the UK back in... March-ish when they came out here... That might be why I didn't get the bonus DVD.

Will this Serenity disk be included with the general release Battlestar Galactica? And does anyone know the difference (if there is any) of the contents of the general release and the Best Buy exclusive?

There is a second shot of Serenity during the first season. Helo watches it take off on the horizon in one of the episodes.

I'd say more than likely, they'll be wanting to promote Serenity heavily just then.
The general release will have commentary, as well as the mini-series/pilot. All else will be the same, from my understanding.

Did they have podcasts for each show like they do now?

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.
