JPSTARGAZER

Alright, you know the drill...spoilers!

Well first off, I'd like to say...WHY IS THE ADMIRAL PROJECTING? Okay, maybe he's not projecting but his blurring of reality and dream sequence was eerily Cylon-like. Well, this show certainly keeps you on your feet as far as the characters' next moves/story lines.

Speaking to that point, I was scared for Cally and the Chief, but mostly for Cally. I figured they wouldn't kill the Chief, mainly because he's one of the best candidates for the "is he/she a Cylon" discussions. It seems like Cally is not quite through it yet, either, so hopefully she'll make a full recovery. Although, I think the downward spiral of the Chief without Cally would make an interesting, if not sad and dark, plot line.

Moving on, more building towards Gaius' trial. Can't wait for this arc, especially after seeing next week's teaser.

So, the Admiral and Roslin...looks like something is brewing (or re-brewing considering the New Caprica thing...wait, didn't he kiss her in some other episode?). I don't know how I'd feel if they'd get together. I think it's kinda like Firefly...you want Mal and Inara to get together, but at the same time, you know the dynamic wouldn't be as interesting when they did.

I liked how Lee and the Admiral got some stuff out about the divorce and other issues. I was broadsided by the law volumes and the note...it's one of those things that moves me because we men can find it hard to say "I love you" or "I'm proud of you" to a son or father.

Oh, and I feel it is important to note that Hot Dog has a "rash." Remember guys...that's what happens when you're not careful about how you land your Viper on the flight deck, if you get my meaning.

SINGATE

Just before they blew the hatch I was thinking, isn't the debris going to fly directly into the raptor? Sure enough that is what happened. I don't find it at all plausible that the ship was righted just in time. Then again, I sure wouldn't have expected both characters to be killed at once.

I was surprised at when the crisis was resolved. There were 20 minutes left in the episode after the big rescue. Usually something like that is dragged out until the final scene. Kudos to the writers for leaving time to resolve other matters.

Every week it seems like one of the major story arcs revolves around a couple and their marital problems. Okay, I think we get it already. I was actually thrilled with the interpersonal issues between Bill and Apollo just because it was something different. I don't think Adama was projecting like a cylon. He was completely immersed in the memories of his marriage, and like his wife says at one point he only does it on their anniversary.

They really need to get on with Baltar's trial. It seems like they have been teasing it forever. That whole thing about the pilots counting days since the last attack and Apollo's blowup got me thinking. Wouldn't the trial be the perfect time for a massive cylon assault?

I enjoyed the show.

That being said, get on it with it.
I need space fighting, I need to see Vipers flying through space hellbent on toasting frakking Cylons.

I don't think Adama could ever truly get together with the president. His duty and his career would get in the way and ruin any friendship they ever had.

I agree. And I don't like what's coming either. Sure, the trial moves forward, but now Baltar is putting out Communist 'working class' propaganda crap ? And Cally and Chief are BUYING it ?? I had to have seen that wrong, because that makes NO sense what so ever. Baltar is on trial for selling out humanity to the Cylons, and Cally almost bought the farm on HIS orders. ( Forced, though he was )

The BIG question is, who finds Earth, and at what part in OUR history do they find it? My 2 cents is that the 13th tribe found Earth, but didn't stay here very long, having moved on or died in trying. I think they find Earth 1000's of yrs ago, maybe around the time of Jesus....but we'll have to wait a while for that part of the story.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

HERA7

Poor Cally, she's been abused more times than any other character in BSG. I wonder what the writers have against her, besides making her a damsel in distress.

The 'working class' propaganda stuff sounds more like Zarek's old line than Baltar's. It would be hard to imagine Baltar has any supporters that would be organized enough to distribute flyers. Zarek said that there would be unrest if the trial took place, and was very uneasy about what would happen. I think Zarek renounced his ways, but all of his followers would not have.

Also remember the chief was ready to strike on New Caprica just before the cylons arrived. Though I do find it hard to believe he would turn against Adama. He had a very strict belief in the command structure on Kobal, even if he did not trust Crashdown to do the right thing.

ARCADIA

I was somewhat underwhelmed by this episode. There were many elements that I liked in theory, but the pacing felt off and... BSG seems to have two tones: their normal tone, and this tone they adopt for the character episodes. Frankly, I'm a bit sick of the latter. As far as standalones go, I much prefer issue/action-driven episodes like "Colonial Day" or even "Sacrifice" (Billy!) to heavily character driven episodes. I mean, I like the characters a lot, but BSG works best as an ensemble show.

Take "Sacrifice". Not one of my favorites, but it certainly had the balance I am talking about:
* Driving Issues: How do you deal with terrorism? Can we trust Sharon?
* Personal investment: The big dogs (Adama, Tight, Roslin) each had one person (Lee, Ellen, Billy) who they loved in potential mortal danger, but were forced to think beyond that.
* Action Furthered Character Plots and vice verse: Lee was forced to step up and, in some ways, abandon the "I'm suicidal" plot; Kara shot Lee, therefore losing some of the peace she gained in "Scar" and shaking up with Lee/Kara relationship; Dee's rejection of Billy motivated him to sacrifice himself to save everyone
* Every member of the billed cast, plus Tigh (they are the big eight) has a signigicant role (actually, now that I think about it, I can't remember is Gaius or Six did, but... oh well, I guess)
* Events in the episode had effects in upcoming episodes: Billy's death, Lee/Kara relationship, Lee's feelings about death, Lee/Dee romance, (arguably) Ellen wanting to really be with Tigh.

Now, compare it to an episode like "A Day in the Life", which explores Adama and does interesting things for the Adama/Lee dynamic, but doesn't really give Lee (or Laura for that matter) all too much to do, and reduces other leads (Starbuck, Athena) to Hotdog-like side characters (which isn't to say I don't likle Hotdog, I do, but I expect different levels of involvement from different people), and leaves others in the dust entirely (Baltar, Six). Sure, Cally and the Cheif had some screen time, but we didn't really look at the marriage in a segnificant way aside from making them a foil for Adama's past reltionship with his wife. They could have been "random invented characters of the week" and still be just as effective.

But, as much as I am complaining, I did enjoy the attention given to the Lee/Adama dynamic. The Law books were a great gesture. And every time Laura was on screen -- so warm and Laura-y -- I melted. It really goes to show you how poorly they've been using her this season. But, I guess that will change as the trial gets closer. Also, I thought the rescue was badass.

So, overall, I am a bit disappointed, but there were enough likeable elements that I did enjoy it (heck, for Laura alone I would have enjoyed it). Still, sign me up for team "can we have a space battle already, guys?"

Sadly, from what I've heard of upcoming episodes, it doesn't look like it...
