Sorry to pick nits, but most of these are not SF. They do all belong to genres whose fan base overlaps with that of SF -- fantasy, spy stories, etc. But I will never concede that "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" is science fiction, not even by a very loose definition!

Er...she's in outer space on the coming on?

Or hey, maybe he was just confusing it with that '80s sci-fi sitcom where the girl would touch her fingers together. There is kind of a resemblance there.

OUTTA THIS WORLD? I remember that show.

I gotta say, there are only a 3 genre shows on this list that I watch -- BtVS, AtS, ALIAS. I catch FUTURAMA and SMALLVILLE occasionally, but am not terribly impressed.

JOHN DOE looks interesting, if gimmicky.

It seems to me that John Doe is just another take on "The Pretender".

UPN's NOWHERE MAN comes to mind as well. Of course, they're all just rip-offs of THE FUGITIVE.

Excuse me? What are the similarities between Nowhere Man, the Pretendeer, and the Fugitive? Yeah, they all have a hero who's on the run. Big deal. That's like saying Strictly Ballroom is a ripoff of Last Tango in Paris because they're both about dancing!

Nowhere Man struck me as semi-lame attempt to redo that 60s paranoid classic, The Prisoner. There were some original elements, but not enough to impress me.

Easy there, tiger

THE FUGITIVE was definitely inspiration for what came after. And they're not just heroes on the run, they're also searching for their past ... so neener.

So Richard Kimble had magical powers of impersonation? I must have missed that episode.

I don't recall the pretender having magical powers. He was just really smart.

The basic premise was that he traveled about, and, while trying to uncover his own past, he took on various guises to help others out of their own jams. THE FUGITIVE had the exact same premise. The difference was that Kimble was Every Man, while the Jacob *was* every man.

And John Doe, apparently, is able to be every man and do anything because he knows everything. It also seems like things that are of immediate importance are seen in color, whereas everything else is in black and white. Bit of psi powers perhaps?

Oh dear,

Them's fighting words pilgrim (sorry for the delay but I wanted to comment on this thread and I've been gone for the last three days) . Nowhere Man wasn't a semi-lame attempt to recreate The Prisoner, but rather a very cleverly written continuation of the concept (and before you ask, yes I did see The Prisoner, I'd get the DVDs if the set up wasn't designed to be so cost draining). Also, one of the main writers was Jane Espenson (back in her pre-Buffy days when she was doing brilliant work that very few people actually got to see) so its at least good by definition .

The Fugitive was original, dating back 40 years. These new incarnations are pathetic at best.

How can you not like Futurama? With all it's glory

If you know anyone that can help my screenwriting career, please help! And yes, I am self-advertising here. Hehehe, me such a little devil.

Bah. The Fugitive was just a lame exploitation of the Sam Shepherd case.

Hey, it's a matter of taste. I find that The Simpsons and Futuram can still make me laugh, as long as I don't watch them too often.

Futurama too often??? It's rarely on anyways.

The Simpsons now just plain out suck. It once was my favorite show. Until Mike Scully took over showrunning duties.
