Well, as 7 is the only one I've seen completely, I have to go with it. But S6 has my two fav episodes, Tabula Rasa (Spike and Giles, hee hee), and Once More With Feeling.

I'm going to have to go watch Buffy now....

I love 2 for introducing us to the best Vamps EVER: Spike & Drusilla

I love 4 for bringing Spike back and struggling to find a role for a neutered vampire among the Scoobies
"Can't any of you remember I'm EVIL!?!?!"

I love 6 for torturing Spike with the so close but still so far relationship with Buffy that spurs him to find his soul....

and I love 7 for Spike actually finding redemption.

I am still not crazy about 5, although the Buffybot was the funniest thing ever, and Buffy's kiss for Spike because he understood that Dawn had to be protected from Glory, that was one of his best scenes (funny, moving, and kinda sexy)

I liked his Angel appearances.

Great chemistry with both Angel and Illyria. Much abuse taken from both of them, and it's always fun to see Spike getting hurt. Illyria put it best: "I like this one. He makes funny noises when I hit him."

Playing Crash Bandicoot. The attempted come-on to Fred. Lorne's Halloween party. The poetry-slam before the apocalypse.

Also, Spike's fight with puppet-Angel is the highlight of James Marsters' career.

Gotta be season 5 for me.
The one deciding reason: 'Fool for Love'. Spike's best episode by a long shot, and one of the best pieces of TV ever made IMO. 'Crush' is another great season 5 Spike ep - the scene between him and Dru in his crypt where she trys to convince him the chip means nothing is awesome. 'Intervention' as well when he takes that beating off Glory and still goes for the last word. Also in 'The Gift', his line "I know you'll never love me. I know I'm a monster" - that really tears at the heart.
Season 5 for sure!

Angel S5 was problematical for Spike...
how do you come back from redemption?
anything you do is gonna be pretty darn anti-climatical.

Joss said that he had coupled Angel with many little blondes,
but none was a better ingenue than Spike,
which was true: no one else brought out the energy and pettiness and frustration in Angel the way Spike did....
so I guess I'm saying:
Ats S5 was not a great season for Spike,
but Spike definitely managed to give Angel what he needed to get to the intense (and brilliant) final season it was.

Of course, for me, the biggest success of Angel's season 5 was Gunn getting his lawyer on, Fred turning into Illyria, and every single thing Wesley said and did until the day he died (he HAS to rise from the dead!)
but I guess that is really a discussion for the Angel section of the board....

Agreed. I rushed out to get it after I saw Buffy S7, just for more Spike! And while I loved the season, I felt that Spike was, I dunno, uh, just being used on Angel.
That's not exactly what I mean....It was like seeing an old lover you broke up with and feeling all weird (?)...I guess it diminished his sacrifice on Buffy for me a little....

because it does diminish the sacrifice...
there is no way around that:
someone dies to save the world...
and then is actually alive after,
it definitely undercuts that sacrifical aspect!

The only way they could handle it was with comedy,
and making Spike seem at loose ends,
and too embarassed about the whole thing to show up at Buffy's doorstep.
So I had no argument with the way the writers handled it,
but it was definitely a detour...
but detours can often take you places that are interesting,
and I did enjoy a lot of Spike's interactions on Angel
(particularly with Harmony, who I LOVED in S5!)

Angel Season 5. I loved the banter between the two Heroes. The dynamic of these two really makes the show. & I really could never get into the Buffy series. So many great Spike comedic moments in season 5.

Spike watching Dawson's Creek - Priceless.

Buffy season 5.

Three words.

Fool. For. Love.

I might have chosen six or seven if I found Spike attractive, but my heart belongs to Xander *sigh*

Season 5 of Angel definitely, but season 7 of Buffy is a close second. He was my favorite character on both shows.

In Grounded's defense, S1 was the only season where nothing horrifically bad happened to poor Spike.

His problems didn't really start until he came to Sunnydale.

Gotta go for Buffy Season Seven - Souled!Spike is the way to go. However, I would like to throw in my opinion that Spike truly loved Buffy before he got his soul, but he didn't understand what that meant until he could tell right from wrong in a more than intellectual fashion.

On Angel Season Five: I thought Spike was great there, actually. I don't think it undercuts his sacrifice - after all, the message of Buffy is "Live," and the message of Angel is "Let's get to work." Thus, his coming back fulfills both of those injunctions, and he does it with such verve that I just love him. Plus, hey, he's cool. And I can always believe he got the Shanshu and not Angel. :-)

SINGATE

I really liked his first season(S2) on Buffy when he was with Dru. Loved how was so dismissive in taking out that little bastard who worked for the Master in S1. Also, Spike and Angelus together was great stuff especially in regards to both their relationships with Dru.

I was a huge fan of Spike on Angel during season 5. He really added a breath of fresh air. More like a hurricane actually. He had so many great moments. Don't know the names of the episodes so I'll just run down some of my favorite parts.

1. The entire episode where Spike is still a ghost and that guy is trying to send him to Hell is fantastic.

2. Spike vs. puppet Angel. Are you kidding me?! One of the best fight scenes ever.

3. The episode where that crazy slayer takes him hostage and proceeds to torture him is also a gem.

I don't think him coming back after sacrificing himself in any way diminished the character or the sacrifice. Joss knew what a gold mine Spike was as a character and how brilliantly he was portrayed by James Marsters. Joss just couldn't let go.

Actually I like Spike, I just think the character was done a terrible disservice in the later years. Making him a regular on the show for longer than a couple of years was a mistake. I think, as AtS S5 attests, he would have worked a lot better in LA.

Interesting. I never thought about Spike as a regular Angel character. He did show up a fair bit anyway, in flashbacks at least.

I doubt he would have got his soul back on Angel though. Well, maybe at some point since it did throw a spanner in the shansu works. Makes you wonder what he would have been like on that show if he'd been there longer.

I don't know how he would have switched to L.A though. I can see him leaving after Buffy's death in season 5, but once she came back wild horses wouldn't have dragged him away from her. Unless she rejected him again and it was too much for him to cope with. Alt Universe fic anyone?

Do not forget the fight in "Destiny" which is one of my favorites in the entire series.

Spike has many great moments in season 5 of Angel.

"Hey big guy, gonna need another car, this last one ended up in the drink"

or

"I was confused you git! It's very loud in here!"

or

On a Spikey subject (but not worth starting a new thread over) I was listening to the Rolling Stones song 'Laugh, I nearly died' and it had the line:
"Been to Africa looking for my soul".
I spent the rest of the song listening intently for clues that Mick Jagger is a Spike fan but I think it mayhave just been coincidence!
