Well, I have to admit, from a purely financial standpoint, it looks like Joe Millionaire is making a nice chunk of change for FOX.

I'm sure if the ratings hold up for the remaining episodes, we're going to be seeing even more reality shows of the "not so nice" variety. Kinda sad, really.

From The Futon Critic:

Quote:

FOX's "Joe Millionaire" lived up to its hype last night as the reality series posted a strong 12.7 rating and 17 share in the metered markets. That's the best overnight delivery of the season for any of FOX's regularly scheduled programs. In fact only FOX's broadcast of games two (13.7/20), six (13.5/22) and seven (19.8/28) of the World Series in October scored better in primetime*. Definitely a big jump out of the gate for FOX.

Ahh, yes.

All the little sheep lining up for their fleecing. I've always been such an ardent supporter of free market capitalism and democracy and on paper it does make sense.... but Joe Millionaire????? OK Marx, whadda you got?

(Putting on her Socilist hat and breaking out her copy of the Manifesto)

The inherent cruelty of capitalism, and how it places profit and the person who has it as all-important.

There's also the status of women under the profit system coming into it. Along with the status of women whose unpaid labor on the domestic front and lower-waged (in general) in the social sphere are seen as commodities of which the fellow with the cash has their pick...

yadda, yadda, yadda.

Guys, fandom is my break from political agitating. I'm happy to discuss it off this board.

It's been noted before. If Fox put half as much into advertising Firefly as they did into Joe Millionaire...

Not really, but I do have a couple ballcaps I wear to protest marches.
