To many posts to look through, but as far as I can see...

No William Gibson discussion!
What's with that? Even before Serenity restored my faith in Science Fiction and I had to go dust off my "other" bookshelf, Gibson was one of those writers that stuck with me.

Re-reading "Burning Chrome," remembering why I wanted to write in first place...

VIOLETRIX

omg! i love gibson so much. i got a chance to meet him, he signed my copy of pattern recognition. he is so accessible. he smokes! cigarettes!

i'm so excited right now! there really isn't a lot of gibson discussion anywhere. i just got finished re-reading the sprawl series and i find that i love count zero more every time i read it. there's such a sense of loss, of sorrow, in it. it aches. the boxmaker is an amazing creature. and turner is so enigmatic.
not that neuromancer isn't a freakin masterpiece or anything.
i'm re-reading virtual light right now. i try to read all of his books at least once every 18 months or so. he also makes me remember what this "writing" thing is all about and why i want to do it.

yes! let's talk gibson! he's amazing. brilliant.

I'd just run through my collection, and had a ruck with someone at work who was going on about how innovative and original The Matrix was.

Deeply satisfying to whip out a book published in 1984. The chrome on the cover's looking a bit burnt by now, mind...

the matrix borrowed heavily from gibson, and a whole lotta other scifi, philosophy, religion, etc. i feel that the wachowskis managed to make it their own, for the most part, but i'd hardly call the matrix trilogy "original."

we can appreciate it for what it is, right?

i haven't read burning chrome in such a long time; someone stole it from me. i think i'll buy it today.

LIMINALOSITY

Did someone say Gibson?
I'm with the violet one. Mostly books get passed on or sold back to Powell's when I'm done reading them, but I have all Gibson's stuffs in my bookcase, some of them signed, and I reread most of it regularly. Usually I read the most connected stories (Neuro/Zero/Mona...Virtual/Parties/Idoru) one right after another.

I have a special fondness for the Pattern Recognition, because his London and Moscow are so like my experience of them, and the characters are so vivid. I hear Pattern Recognition is being made into a moo-vee.

I hope they don't totally blow it. At least it won't take much CGI (or dolphins) to pull it off. It could be tricky to manage the tone of the FFF posting/email which is the only contact between several main characters for much of the story.
It always gives me a kick that the name of the site in Pattern Recognition (FFF) is the glyph of this site. Iconic, and I always enjoy a well placed bit of 'through the looking glass' effect in real life.
Peter Weir is listed as director, so I suppose it has a chance. I'm looking forward to hearing the cast. *crosses fingers*
