Watched JD on SciFi last Fri nite. Man, what a good show! What if F*X had put those 2 shows ( john doe and firefly) on another night besides Friday? Grrrrr!

I must say, JD was the show which had captivated me quicker than did Firefly. Thanks in great part to the schuffling of the episodes and, of course, the the MLB playoffs.

Knowing how the season/series ends w/ the last episode is all the more heartbreaking.

I watched this one a couple of times, but was never able to get into it. The premise was somewhat interesting but the dialogue and directing seemed rather run-of-the-mill. Did it pick up in later episodses?

I like John Doe as well, but am having trouble being fair to it, since Firefly is gone from SciFi. I'm a Browncoat because of the airing of Firefly on SciFi and I frankly miss it, and can't help being a little resentful that John Doe has taken it's place. I would hope that SciFi can find a place for both shows to exist, but I have to say... I hope they greenlight a new series for Firefly, I don't hope that for John Doe. Sorry....

Where's the love? SciFi did us a great thing, and I hope more Browncoasts were enlisted because of it, but face the facts. There are only 14 eps of Firefly. 14! And SciFi showed all of them, in order! Then showed more of them, and then had a mini Firefly marathon !! But a new season requires a new show, and we've seen all the Firefly there is to see. Let someone else have a go at it, how about? I love both shows, because they're nothing alike. Diversity and such, right? To each their own, but John Doe lasted on air at least to the season finale, for what that's worth.

I said I was having trouble, lol.

I know, I know, and I do appreciate SciFi for what it did with airing Firefly.... and John Doe is good, didn't say it wasn't.

Just pining for a love I can't have I guess.

Get thee the DVD box set of FIREFLY. If ya live near me, I've got a spare set that I can lend ya.

I realize John Doe will never reach the fan level of Firefly, but that's besides the point. I dig both shows. I'm damn near giddy 'cause it's now on SciFi now. If it comes out on DVD, I'm buying the set... no question about it. Just like I have the Wonderfalls DVD too. But I'm w/ ya there for the love of Firefly Always.

Hey, SgtX, nice to hear from you again! (Well, at least in a thread I've looked at...)

My review, for what's it worth: When JD aired, I quickly got tired of the plot mechanism. It seemed all the episodes were basically the same. I stayed with it, due mostly to my wife's urging. Then, about 15-20 episodes in if I remember right, they finally started to throw out some tantalizing clues as to the conspiracy. Then the last two episodes built quite quickly to what still stands today as one of the best (and most frustrating) cliffhangers ever.

The show was competently done, enjoyable, not a lot of surprises. IMHO, they really developed too slowly! But, once they got there, bang!! Yes, I feel it's worth it, especially if you can afford a bit of patience. We'll be recording it this time.

SgtX, did you actually start watching the show? Now that it's almost over (one left), I have to say I forgot how good it was. MUCH better than I remembered.

Auraptor, I know you've been watching them, too. Anyone else?

PATSRULE

I have posted this a few other times, but in case people missed it, one of the Fox executives did ultimately reveal the main scenario behind John Doe a year or so after it was canceled.

Select to view spoiler:

When a person dies, they are given ultimate knowledge of the universe. Something happened to John Doe where he was given that knowledge of the unvierse, but he wound up not dieing. That group (I think they were called Pheonix?) from the conspiracy was trying to obtain that knowledge from him. Certainly doesn't explain everything in the series, but that was the gist of what was happneing.

Patsrule, I have seen this also. I think it was from one of the writers, but I'm not sure. Based on this and after watching it again, I've come up with the following personal theory:

Select to view spoiler:

I believe John Doe is actually immortal. "Phoenix" group. Also, he has several incidents that are typically fatal throughout the show. Further, I think Digger is the same. Lastly, given that his true name seems to be Thomas, and the religious themes, I have conjectured that he and Digger are actually disciples of Christ, living immortally. Perhaps Digger was Judas.

Holy crap! That would have made for a great series!

Select to view spoiler:

Of course, it would have really ticked off some of the more religious types, so I can see why FOX wouldn't want to mess w/ that theme. But Digger also having a 'colorful past' of his own sure does explain why he knows so damn much too. Very interesting!

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. The heart of it is definitely just a wild guess.

Select to view spoiler:

The parts about him JD being immortal and Digger having the same knowledge-based ability track consistently when watching the show, though. There are just too many times when Digger comes up with some really obscure info that not even JD knows- all over the road in subject matter, too. Also, all the times when JD is hit by lightning, thrown into high voltage wires or box, etc. For that matter, his fear of confined spaces: caskets must be terrifying for someone immortal.
