Im sure theres been a thread about this before, but im too lazy to look. Anyway.

I've been thinking alot lately about a few things that dont make sence, that happened on FF and in serenity.

Like in the last episode "objects in Space", at the end when mal punched the Bounty Hunter and he floated off into space. Why oh why would the crew of serenity not salvage the bountyhunters ship. Like a fast, stealthy, armed ship, would be worth quite a bit i would imagine. And yet, they left it floating in space for someone else to get. ileagle salvage is what these poeple do for a living, yet they leave the ship???

And in serenity after they broadcast the Maranda Msg they are seen repairing the ship, and theres a shot where they take the flak cannon of the roof....Why??.. u would think in there line of work in would come in handy, more often than not. So why did they ditch it? I know that if i had a ship and had the choice to fly around with with or without a mounted cannon. Im sure i would choose the latter.

Serenity is not a warship. It is a transport/freight vessel. They are criminals only on the side and on the underground. Having a cannon on top of the hull would probably attract a little too much attention from the Alliance (They try to steer clear, but they still have to enter Alliance-patrolled space every now and then, ex. Persephone and Ariel).

Not to mention, it's a very inefficient weapon to have. It requires a gunman in the seat of the cannon in order to be fired (Remember, it was the cannon that Shepherd shot the Alliance ship down with).

As far as your second question goes, I'd have to agree. Serenity is not a warship - simply transport. Not to mention the gun's inefficiency. Plus, putting a gun on a transport ship would throw up even more red flags for the Alliance, which is the last thing Serenity needs.

As for salvaging Early's ship. . . Hmm. I would think that a ship his size, versus theirs, any parts for Serenity wouldn't fit. I don't know exactly how interchangable spaceship parts are, but I know lots of car parts aren't - so I'd assume the same is true. As for salvaging parts for sale, I don't know how that would really work for them anyway. They seem to only pick up jobs that someone sends them on, and then they get a percentage. Badger sent them for the protein (later sold to patience) - he also orchestrated the cow shipment indirectly. Fanty and Mingo sent them to steal the money from Lilac. Niska put 'em on the train job. The only time they've done any job by themselves (that coms to mind) is Simon's plan to rob the hospital on Ariel. And I imagine drugs are a lot easier to sell than very specific engine parts.

Basically - if you don't have a fence, there's no reason to steal something. That's why things went so downhill after stealing the Lassiter in Trash.

Couple of points, firstly we don't know what they do with the ship in objects in space its not mentioned they may have gone and taken any bits of pretty they could find but on the idea of taking the whole ship it might be tricky to get it somewhere with people rich enough to buy it (probably a core planet) without getting spotted and or arrested (illegal salvage or just having a ship they have no proof of owning). Secondly on the idea of the cannon as soon as the alliance see that cannon they would pull a serious hissy fit with no way out, they would most likely shoot first if serenity had weaponry like that. There's my two cents on the questions.

Mal: Looks like we got here in the nick of time, what does that make us?
Zoe: Big Damn heroes sir.

Just another thought - to take the whole ship would be near-impossible. It certainly appears that the only thing to come back from the ship is River, but she might've brought some other stuff back too - or maybe she was just the last one back from a quick salvage run. Anyway, there's really no way for Serenity to get that ship anywhere. There's no such thing as a tractor beam, so basically they'd have to tie the ships together or something (unless someone else voted to pilot the ship of a bounty hunter). That's another thought - if Early had made any enemies who were still alive, they might know his ship and to see it with Serenity would probably make people suspicious.

MER

Since everybody answered all the possible answers to the Early question, I figured I'd answer the Gun Cannon.

As it was stated before, Firefly is a transport ship. Even though they took off the cannon, doesn't mean they won't keep it just in case they need it..it's possible it isn't in the ship on account of it taking up so much space.
Though it would be nice if Jayne had a gernade cannon.
