EMMAPEEL

Hello everyone, I posted earlier. I'm a big fan and I've managed to be able to write a research paper using firefly/serenity as a base. I'm studying the firefly audience basically. So it would be HUGE help to me if you could answer these questions for me. It would be much appreciated!! Thank you.

1) Did the community (online) help to encourage you to become more of an active audience in supporting firefly?

2) What specifically made you join the browncoat ranks and try and bring firefly back/ support the film, or more recently lobby for a sequel for Serenity? (if this applies, answer n/a if it doesn’t)

3) What made you remain active as a fan, even after the show was cancelled and not brought back, and now when the future of more Serenity films is shaky at best?
-eg, still spreading the word, doing charity events, etc. And by what, I mean the love of the series, or the fan community, the people you have met, anything!

4) Finally what do you think makes Firefly fan groups different from other fan groups?

5) Have you become active in other fan groups? If so, which ones?
Was one of them Family Guy?

6) What do you think made firefly fans succeed at getting something more, namely Serenity, after the show was cancelled?
Eg: Letter campaigns, online protests, buying DVDs?

Thanks again everyone!
With your help, 'no power in the verse can stop me' (-:

1) Did the community (online) help to encourage you to become more of an active audience in supporting firefly?

Yes. The experiencing of finding something I relate to as intimately as Firefly is rare. Finding others who share an appreciation of something I like is even more rare.

2) What specifically made you join the browncoat ranks and try and bring firefly back/ support the film, or more recently lobby for a sequel for Serenity? (if this applies, answer n/a if it doesn’t)

The show was the best thing I'd ever seen on television and the only show since Twin Peaks I deliberately planned to watch. Seeing it cast aside by mainstream morons was too much to bear.

3) What made you remain active as a fan, even after the show was cancelled and not brought back, and now when the future of more Serenity films is shaky at best?

In the early days of the movement, even before the series was canceled, it was obvious that something as unique and special as Firefly would not be long for this world. In a sense, I was attracted to the whole 'lost cause' aspect of it. Not that I like being on the losing side per se, but as I said, it's rare when I find something in this world worth fighting for, especially in pop media. To me, it was a grievous injustice to let something as moving as Firefly die without a fight. In a lot of ways, the struggle of fans to save the show mirrored the losing efforts of the browncoats in the series, and I'm sure that aspect of it had a lot to do with the ferocity of the response.

4) Finally what do you think makes Firefly fan groups different from other fan groups?

I'm not really sure since I've not been active in any other fan groups before. It does seem, however, that Firefly seems to attract fans across a broad range of ages and backgrounds. I think that was particularly problematic in the marketing of the series and something the people at Fox just couldn't effectively cope with. They seem to want a tightly defined demographic and Firefly fans seem to defy attempts at that kind of categorizing.

I also think, and this may be a little self-serving but..., Firefly fans seem to be a bit more mature and intelligent than the usual sci-fi crowds. I'm sure other fanhoods would deny that assertion, but from what I've seen, Firefly fans are drawn to the series because of its subtle intelligence and depth - the care and craft that makes each episode stand up after multiple viewings. Not everyone appreciates that kind of artistry.

5) Have you become active in other fan groups? If so, which ones?

No

6) What do you think made firefly fans succeed at getting something more, namely Serenity, after the show was cancelled?

As much as anything I think it was just the quality of the concept and its execution. The fact that we responded to that may have inspired Joss to fight that much harder for the series, but it was his love for his creation that inspired that in us in the first place. I have to give Joss all the credit for making something so unlikely and so beautiful.

1) Did the community (online) help to encourage you to become more of an active audience in supporting firefly?

Kinda, does looking for a Firefly theme song ringtone count?

2) What specifically made you join the browncoat ranks and try and bring firefly back/ support the film, or more recently lobby for a sequel for Serenity?

LOVE

3) What made you remain active as a fan, even after the show was cancelled and not brought back, and now when the future of more Serenity films is shaky at best?

LOVE

4) Finally what do you think makes Firefly fan groups different from other fan groups?

Our love for it. It would seem that with the exeption of the Star Wars fans (of which I count myself) We(Browncoats are the most enthusiastic than most

5) Have you become active in other fan groups? If so, which ones?

No sorry

Was one of them Family Guy?

Nope, though I do love it

6) What do you think made firefly fans succeed at getting something more, namely Serenity, after the show was cancelled?

LOVE
