Hey All

Yesterday, I saw the trailer for this new movie that won't be out until late September this year (actually the same weekend SERENITY came out two years ago) that caught my interest. It's this movie called ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, and no it's not a sci-fi movie. It's a coming of age in the 60's movie that being described as sort of a Beatles musical. Here's the link to it.

Now, after seeing it, I actually feel conflicted about it. On the one hand, it's The Beatles (I've been listening to their LOVE album on repeat for the last two months) and with the various dream and nightmare like images in a montage set to "Hey Jude" (probably the only pop song delivered from God himself, IMHO), that's enough just to get me in the theatre. On the other hand, the trailer starts with a character named Jude actually singing aloud. With this blow to the head with a blunt object, it's obvious that sublety isn't going to be a big part of the film. And if it's February, and your trailer is already proclaiming the movie as "the most ORIGINAL, EXHILARATING, SPECTACULAR, GROUNDBREAKING, MOTION PICTURE OF THE YEAR", you kinda get the sense of overcompensation and of a studio that has no idea how to properly market the film.

So what do you folks think? I see this as "Proceed with caution".
