Hey All

Are there any audiobook junkies here on the site?

Ever since I've been working out almost every day at the gym to tone up and lose weight and all that, I've been listening to a lot more audiobooks than ever before. When I was a kid, I was a real book worm. Like during lunch and recess at my old school I'd always be off in a corner reading a book. But as I got older and life just got too busy, I don't have the luxury of just sitting in a chair and reading a book (with the exception of the HARRY POTTER books. I remember picking up HALF BLOOD PRINCE at Chapters and reading the first chapter in my car). So I find that audiobooks are the ways that I can actually read like a lot of books on a daily basis.

Right now, I'm re-reading THE AMBER SPYGLASS, the third part of Philip Pullman's HIS DARK MATERIALS trilogy in anticipation for the movie. And after that, I have the rest of THE TERMINAL MAN to finish and then I'll dive into the 7 book epic that is Stephen King's Dark Tower series, as well as John Hodgeman's THE AREAS OF MY EXPERTISE.

The thing is, depending on how rabid I am of the books, I'll probably finish them pretty quickly. What I'm asking you guys is if there are any audiobooks you've listened to that you really like that you would recommend for me to listen to.

I only ask that you don't recommend like a 12 part fantasy series where each individual book is as thick as a phone book, or just anything overtly sci-fi/fantasy. I've kinda hit my limit at this point, and I wouldn't mind reading say a classic novel, or something political or even something really funny. I want to expand my literary pallet.

Any good books to listen to?

HI!! <> I listen to a LOT of audio books cus radio sucks and I am in my car a lot.. and there are SOOOO Many books and soooo little time...

so, I like a lot of history BUT also fiction. Have "read" (listened) to the Dark Materials and ALL the HP (after reading...lol) also the LOTR

so... one I can definitely recommend is the Bartimaous Triology by Stroud read by Simon Jones. A real delight to me!

Also Michael Chabon's Summerland.. quirky and fun.
Also Bill Bryson's Thunderbolt Kid and In A Sunburned Country.

If you like history at all, let me know and I will pass along some other suggestions.

ALSO am interested in other recommendations from you and other coats out there!

THANKS!

Hey All

Just an update. I went to my library and I browsed the CD audio book shelves and found some good stuff. I think this is the best way to find new stuff to read because if you order things online, then you'll just be getting the same stuff over and over again. You need to be in a situation where you're just looking and a title pops out at you that you have to get. Who knows? It could be even better than what you would have normally gotten.

I did get an Elmore Leonard book called SPLIT IMAGES (which is something I wanted to avoid since the audio book for TISHOMINGO BLUES took me forever to listen to), but I also got IN COLD BLOOD by Truman Capote, DUDE, WHERE'S MY COUNTRY by Michael Moore, FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS by Ernest Hemingway, and the real corker of the bunch, an unabridged 40 1/2 hour long audiobook of DON QUIXOTE by Cervantes. And I'm trying to download all fo Stephen Kings THE DARK TOWER series as well as A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES. That should keep me pretty busy.
