It takes all kinds to make the world go ‘round. Unfortunately, some are pedaling in the wrong direction...

I don't know about anyone else, but the latest "Transformers" trailer on Rotten Tomatoes gave me chills. I sometimes question Michael Bay's directing, but the effects alone make this movie look amazing. I even like some of the casting...

Of course, it's heart-breaking to me that Bumblebee is... no longer a Beetle! I read that VW didn't want their products associated with war of any kind.

Anyway, check it out. It's amazing.

SPEAKFIRE

I saw the trailer when we went to go see Shrek The Third, and I have to admit some of the scenes were jaw-dropping. I'm not a Michael Bay fanatic, but I did find both ID4 and Armageddon entertaining. Mostly mindless, lots of eye-candy, but still enjoyable to see on the big screen.

I'm hoping with Steven Spielberg on as Executive Producer, the new Transformers movie will meet my expectations, so far from the trailers alone it's surpassed them. I really love how the Transformers look, and all the kinematics of the 'no mass shifting' is fascinating to watch.

The 'original' voice of Optimus Prime in the cartoon, Peter Cullen, is returning for the movie. I think that Shia Labeouf will be well cast as Spike (he looks young but not so young as I'm reminded of Even Stevens every time I see him). And one of my favorite actors, Hugo Weaving, is doing the voice of Megatron.

I actually picked up Alan Dean Foster's 'prequel' novel to the Transformers Movie, it's called "Ghosts of Yesterday". A good read, like most of that author's material.

Regarding Bumblebee not being an old VW Beetle, I actually heard the decision was also based on the fact that they didn't want references to Herbie The Love Bug... however if you watch the trailers, there's still homage paid to the old Beetle form, when Spike is on the auto-dealer car lot, you can see the beat up yellow Camaro that is the Autobot Bumblebee is parked right next to a yellow Volkswagen Beetle :)

Yeah, I caught that, too. I thought that was a nifty way to remember the original Bumblebee. I was actually quite stoked to see that Cullen would return as Prime's voice. I never missed the original cartoon growing up, never quite being happy with the later installments.

I truly hope they develope, in one way or another, the relationships the characters had in the original, rather than just make it a "robot war" movie.

Bay did Armageddon, but not ID4 - that was Roland Emmerich.

I'm pretty stoked to see this movie now. I still don't like the robot designs much, the Autobots are okay, but the Decepticons just look like a haphazard pils of parts. But even still, it looks like it'll be a lot of fun.

Oops, you are right, Michael Bay did The Rock and Bad Boys.. I liked those movies too. Not pure cinematic gold, mind you, but entertaining. What can I say, I'm easily amused.
