Hey guys! I'm mostly just a lurker Browncoat, but I got something important to say. Below are some posts I made on a forum I post in. I wanted to share them with some fellow Browncoats and ask your help in spreading the word to others and maybe together we can do some good.

Thanks so much for reading!

One of my favorite bands of all time: Dispatch.

They broke up in '04.

One of their most famous songs is "Elias". It's a song about a friend of the band by the same name that lives in Zimbabwe.

Dispatch helped in forming a charity dubbed The Dispatch Foundation. In July '07, the guys came together again to raise awareness about the abysmal situation in Zimbabwe. There was a 3-day concert in New York at Madison Square Garden, all the proceeds went to the Dispatch Foundation which continues to help with the situation in Zimbabwe. It was an amazing show (I was there for 2 of the 3 nights). They had the Afircan Children's Choir that sang along with some of the songs, and a few from Zimbabwe that played percussion. If you are interested a DVD of the show was just released, you can pick it up here:

http://store.dispatchmsg.com/

During the show they had 4~5 vignettes (short vids) that told of the situatin in Zimbabwe, and we all got to meet Elias and his family. Come to find out that 2 weeks after they returned from filming before the concert Elias' brother, Eria, had died of HIV.

All this comes to a point here. This past Friday, one of Elias' son's, Manuel, was stabbed in the neck and head for confronting someone about stealing a bag of sugar. He was rushed to the hospital where he remains in critical condition. He requires surgery, which in Zimbabwe's economy/inflation will cost around 50 billion Zimbabwe Dollars, which equates to roughly 30,000 U.S. dollars.

So, if you are feeling charitable you can see the link below to donate.

Update from Zimbabwe:

January 1, 2008

Hey all,

Thank you each again for your support.

Manuel has made improvement. He is breathing on his own and is conscious. It appears that he is paralyzed in the right side of his body and he is not able to speak. He was able to eat today with his left arm. And, he has been crying. We are not sure yet how much Manuel is going to have to relearn or what a rehab program is going to look like for him.

Thank all of you for your thoughts, prayers, and financial support thus far. Through the Elias Fund and the Dispatch Foundation, you have together raised over $11,000 for the Ndakasimba Trust.

His doctor has told us that the medical expenses combined with an estimate for rehab costs will be around $25,000. Manuel will likely need to spend time outside of Zimbabwe for rehabilitation. He will need help from friends at hospitals and with the airlines; if you know anyone, please let us know.

As this year comes to a close, we humbly ask that you consider giving to the Ndakasimba Trust and Manuel's medical expenses. Elias and his family are awed by your support. And, we are humbled by our community as you have come together to help a friend halfway around the world. Thank you for being a part of that community!

Eric from the Elias Fund and Jeb from the Dispatch Foundation will be going to Zimbabwe in late January and would love to take cards or notes for Manuel. Please send all cards and notes for Manuel to:

Your support has been amazing and we can not thank you all enough. Have a wonderful Holiday season.

Much love to all,
The Elias Fund
