STRANGEBIRD

Ok I believe I may have seen previously a thread related to this, or at least seen this mentioned once or twice. Either way I've noticed a few of you still are not familiar with Jewel Staite's previous role as a sweet, cheery, genius mechanic on the show Space Cases. here's a link to her character bio on a fan site I found after a few seconds searching...

http://www.spacecasestv.com/cat.html

Isn't she cute? I was maybe eleven of twelve when this show came out and honestly I believe Jewel was the first and only fictional character I've had a genuine crush on. Seriously she plays the cheery engineer very well.

I even remember the theme music and will catch myself playing it in my head at the weirdest moments. Rotating stock on aisle two or putting in an order for monday's milk delivery tends to bring up some odd things. I haven't watched the show for over ten years. Of course music always makes the largest impression on me. I get that tune from the episode of TNG "The Inner Light" and also from the other one with Picard and his lady-friend, stuck in my head a lot as well.

Anyway thought you all would get a kick out of this if you were not privy to this bit of BDH lore. Not sure if there's a DVD set out but if there is I might buy it for my nephews. A precursor to Firefly for the younger ones maybe?

I'm not having any trouble with it. Here's another link to a pretty poorly done bio but it has a pic of Jewel I've never seen before. Anyway here's a quote from the other site.

Quote:

Age:
15

Home:
Titan (a moon of Saturn)

Background Information:
This headstrong Saturnian is an engineering genius, and has a sonic scream that can be used as both a tool and a weapon (if necessary). After being stuck on the Christa's sister ship when it self-destructed, Cat was assumed dead. It was discovered, however, that she'd been switched with Suzee, her "imaginary" friend, who now resides with the Space Cases, while Cat is stuck on Suzee's homeworld of Yensid.

Anyway I quit watching it somewhere in the late first or early second season. I really don't remember. Either way it was canceled in season two and never really allowed to tie up the story... sound familiar?

Really I don't know what the deal is with the link. Maybe it's regional or something? I'm currently trying to find another decent fan site.

Haha forgot the other link. Sorry it's 1:32 AM here and I have a killer head ache.

And then there is the Wikipedia page. Doesn't have a picture of Jewel though.

Also found an episode gallery with a few pics of Jewel.

I'd say the show is a mix of Farscape, Firefly and Star Trek. In look and plot.

Ok I'm going to bed. If there's still interest in the morning I'll figure out what's up with the link or find another site.

Great to hear. The first link still works for me... strange. Anyone else not having a problem or am I the only one who can visit that site? It's not really a great one anyway. The other two more than make up for it.

Also notice who guest starred on the show. A small number of other Scifi greats you may recognize. I personally don't remember a single one of them.

Jewel's hair is awful cute though isn't it? Of course I think she finds it difficult to not look cute either way. Not to say she isn't gorgeous now though. 'cause she is. And I'll stop my Jewel ranting since even I'm finding it a bit creepy.
