I've found at least one book that reminds me a lot like Firefly, The Icarus Hunt, by Timothy Zahn. A pilot and partner is hired to take a transport ship to earth, while being hounded by compeditors wanting the ship. Excellent read, wonderful book.

If the reason you love Firefly is because you love space opera (like I do!) then you can't go wrong with Lois McMaster-Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan series. It's setting is VERY different, but it has the same type of character driven stories that Firefly does. And you can't help but love the bipolar little smart-ass of a main character she has.

my favorite of hers is ...you know they're all so damn good. Memory was the last one i re-read recently.
another good space-drama, or space opera if you prefer, is the mageworlds series by Doyle and MacDonald. the first book is called The Price of the Stars

I think I read DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY last.

Hey! "Winterfair Gifts" should be out in the anthology IRRESISTABLE FORCES next month. Been waiting over a year for it now. The anthology was supposed to come out last Feb., but publisher glitches happen so it was put off for a year.
