Man that movie was golden! They went a totally different way with it than I would have (I would have gone for realism with a minimum of CGI shots), but for what it was (a cartoon with live actors in it, practically) it was great!

STOWEAWAY

Do you think it's OK to take the whole family?
Not to much for the little Stoweaways?

My kids are psyched to see this. I think I might finally break down and take them.

My 8 year old girl and 4 year old boy had a blast.

Also, I get that the critics won't like this, but for those of us who grew up watching the show and took the movie for what it was, it was great.

I'm convinced.
I have an almost 8 yr old and 5 yr old boys. They're gonna be so excited. My mother-in-law gave them a DVD collection of the old show and they can't get enough.
I'm thinking Sunday matinée tomorrow.

Thanks!

Flying on duct tape and a damaged registry.

MalsWay and I saw it. It was great! We were amazed at the production design and what they did with it. I thought the acting and direction varied between satisfactory and good. Too, they crammed a lot of (back) story into the movie, but it did not seem too much. Lots 'o montages. ("We need a montage!")

I was curious about how they would handle Chim-Chim and Spridel. Based on the 60s cartoon, I was in the "Chim-Chim must die" camp (a la "Jar-Jar must die"). They did not ruin the movie, so I was happy about that. In fact, they even brought a chuckle or two.

And as for the kiddos, it is well-rated at PG. Stylized violence, some language, some innuendo.

My attempts to get people to see this have largely fallen on deaf ears. In fact, other than the 2 folks I was with I don't know anyone who has seen this. Most people I talk to dismiss it based on online criticism and box office returns.

I liked this so much that it will be the first film I purchase on Bluray. This one just begs to be viewed in HD.

I can speak as someone who never saw the cartoon at all and before the movie my only knowledge of it was seeing t-shirts and posters in various tv shows or movies.

But it intrigued me and really liked it when I saw it. The look is different and works well within the story. The racing is incredible and just makes me wanna be able to drive like that.

Select to view spoiler:

And even though I had figured out who Racer X really was from seeing a trailer:
Rex Racer - Racer Rex - Racer X
I didn't spoil it and I liked that they kept it open.

I also liked the fact that it was a family film. They could have made it more violent or darker but surely there's enough movies like that out there.

Plus John Goodman is always a pleasure to watch and makes any film he's in so much better.

Looking forward to a sequel.

I saw it yesterday, and liked it a LOT more than I thought I would. A great cartoon, with real actors! Not sure I'll buy it when it comes out (don't buy many DVDs) but if it shows on USA, SciFi or FX channels I'll watch it again. Very entertaining!

All through the flick I was thinking how much better it'll look on dvd (& bluray); I'm buying two copies- one for my son and one for ME.

STOWEAWAY

Whoa! Good race.

My kids enjoyed it immensely. Now they're racing around the house making squealing tire noises.

I thought it was a lot of fun. But I wasn't prepared for the visual effect. Most of the time I felt like I was in a rainbow-colored tilt-a-whirl.
I finally adjusted to it. But when I came out of the theater, the world looked mighty drab.

I'm glad I went. Thanks for the advice all.
