Repost - see AuRaptor's "feel-good" thread from last week.

And yes, her singing is simply stunning. I don't think I've *EVER* seen that look of wide-eyed shock on Simon's face before!

Word has it that she's already being offered recording contracts. She should be getting offers to sing in muscials, too, because she could easily play the character that no one expects to have such an amazing, beautiful voice.

The same response I had to Paul Potts. If you haven't seen it before, here's his first audition. Simply stunning as well. Another "where did that come from?" moment.

Zoe: "Get it running again."

Zoe: "So not running now"
Mal: "Not so much"

I think the key, like Paul Potts said, is self-confidence. People think that if they don't have the looks like Michael Crawford or Shania Twain, that no one will want to listen to them. Or the way they talk, walk, whatever. Even crippling shyness because of their background. But heck . . . and this is the only other example I can think of off the top of my head . . . look at Mel Tillis. The man could hardly put a sentence together because of his extreme stuttering problem, but that man could surely sing. Not a big FAN of his music, but I recognize the talent, anyway.

AND!!! This just occured to me.

What did Zoe say about Wash when they first met?

"Something about him bugs me."

But underneath that mustache was the same Wash we all know and love.

I've always wondered, though. Does Wash seem different WITH the mustache? His mannerisms and speech pattern and such? Or is it just me?

BINGO!

I work in a warehouse. I *am* the entire warehouse staff. As such, I sing my arse off, all day long. But when the door opens and someone else walks in, I shut up, right quick. My wife heard me sing once, and she had that look like Simon had. I told her I just wanted to try it, just once, in front of someone. She seemed impressed.

I'll sing damn near anything - but only when I'm alone!

I'm always being told I should do something like voice-over work or singing or stuff like that. Sometimes I think I'd like to try it, too. I used to act and sing in high school and a little acting in college, but that's it.

I always think of the people on American Idol who are supposedly told by SO many people that they have amazing voices. They get in front of the cameras and the judges and . . . the whole country is laughing at them because they CAN'T sing. That, my friends, is what keeps some of these treasures like Susan and Paul hidden away. "What if I'm NOT really that good? People will laugh at me!"

I looked at another video from BGT of a father and son being silly, dancing around the stage like Michael Flatley. It was ludicrous, but funny. The judges loved it. Maybe because it was just a good night and they were in amazingly good moods. I kept thinking to myself Peirs would NOT have found it THAT amusing if it were on AGT. Don't know why I thought that, but I did.

I fully expect Kwicko to now audition for the next season of America's Got Talent. We'll be looking for you!

ANOTHERSKY

I second that motion. We want a recording! No pressure or anything. ;)

Audition, just for the experience. I'm going through college right now trying to ignore my drama/music tendencies and focus on a law degree.
Give me somebody to look up to! :D Regardless, get out there and start singing for people who will listen to you. If you can take it, I've heard that anonymously to strangers on the street (ie not knowing you, not involved in the business) is actually an excellent way to plunge in, takes the edge off.
Talent, desire and joy will out--unless we keep them in.

I was laughing at that shot of that smug teen in the audience. I thought: Just. You. Wait.

Why is it that we always say "don't judge a book by it's cover" and fail to take our own advice?

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I've long been of the opinion that what 'bothered' Zoe was the fact that she was attracted to him. He was odd and quirky and she couldn't figure out why she liked him, it made her uncomfortable.
I have a ficlet to that effect, actually
