RIPWASH

Time for another music related thread.

I am a fan of music soundtracks/scores and I've been thinking lately that there are a few that are simply too dang short. If only that portion of the movie had been extended or if we could hear what the composer could have done with it if he/she had the chance.

Right now, off the top of my head, I can think of two. Okay three.

Two from Serenity: "Serenity" and "Love". Though David Newman really failed to capture the spirit of the TV show (not enough fiddle, banjo or guitar, IMHO), I think the overall score is very good. And he does give us quick flashes of accoustic goodness. I loved the way he introduced the ship in the movie. It starts slow and soft and builds with the entry sequence gone awry. But, it's a woefully short 50 seconds! ACK!! I want more! Then the score for "Love" is incredibly moving because of Mal's speech about loving a ship beyond reason. He loves that ship, as does everyone else on board, and it's almost as if they are all love-sick at the loss of Wash, but at the same time, they are free once more, breaking atmo and . . . losing another piece I know I'm probably not alone among those who listen to the soundtrack that at the end of the sweeping crescendo and abrupt stop . . . saying, "What was that?" A smile of hope and sorrow spreads across my face. But again . . . that's only over a minute long!

The third is from Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix. The track is "The Flight of the Order of the Phoenix" and it is a wonderful escape from mundane Muggle-dom. I listen to that and I feel Harry's joy of flying on his broomstick along with some of the people he trusts most in the world. But at 1:33 I feel cheated. I have to play it about two more times until I'm satisfied enough to move on to something else.

Does anyone else have those moments or favorite scores that you just wish lasted a couple minutes more?

Just curious. I'd love to hear everyone else's comments, iffn' ya have any.

I have both BDS and BDM soundtracks on my i-Phone. So completely agree about the intro song, I just love the feel of it. In fact, as I read your post, I thought ..... 50 seconds...more than enough to tailor a ring tone out of!

Ditto to the " What was that " remark! Guilty as charged.

Another sorta related moment is from Buffy's OMWF soundtrack, Where do we go from here. Towards the end, when the group is all chorus liney, gearing up for the big finish, and Spike stops himself, as if to say " To hell w/ this ! ", and walks off....classic.

I tend to think of myself as not being such a sound track type, but to look at my song list, it'd be hard to win that case. I've found that , w/ some movies, listening to the sound track is like watching it all over, on a tiny little screen in my mind.....

I've said too much.

Okay . . . so I'm having a DUH! moment here. It totally slipped by me thet the "End Credits" of the soundtrack has a bit more of the "Serenity" theme, but by golly, I still want more!

On a separate, but related note, I've been fiddling with software called Audacity and managed to make myself a snippet ringtone of "Serenity" from the soundtrack as well as another ringtone with the ending of "Love". A beat (beat and a half) after the end I edited in "What was that?" Just like the movie. That woulda been a mite easier if I had a DVD drive on my computer and I coulda pulled it directly from there, but I don't so I had to make do with the soundtrack playing on iTunes and a .wav file of the line. Turned out pretty good if I don't say so my own self.

Yes, I'm very proud.

What I'm a tad miffed at is that there was the acoustical version of the Ballad of Serenity in the BDM, during the rolling credits, but that piece does not appear on the soundtrack.

I use iRinger to fashion my ring tones. Been a while since I added any though. I think I've got some ring tones to create.
