Iran's Ahmadinejad praises Turk PM on Israel stance
http://in.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idINIndia-43469720091027
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad praised visiting Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday for his "clear stance against" Israel, Iran's state media reported.

Ahmadinejad, who has repeatedly predicted Israel's imminent demise, blamed foreign states for regional problems and called for an expansion of Tehran-Ankara ties. His comments appeared aimed at the West, including Turkey's ally the United States.

"The more regional countries expand their ties and get closer to each other, the more they can remove their problems and limit the ill-wishers which have plots against them," state broadcaster IRIB quoted Ahmadinejad as telling Erdogan.

"Iran-Turkey cooperation would benefit both countries, the region and the whole Islamic world," he said.

"Your clear stance against the Zionist regime had a positive impact in the world which undoubtedly made all nations happy," Ahmadinejad said in the meeting, IRIB reported. Iran does not recognise Israel, which it refers to as the Zionist state.

Erdogan's visit to Iran comes two weeks after Turkey barred Israel from a NATO exercise, a decision that angered Israel and prompted rare criticism from the United States.

Not seeing how Turkey has quit the EU here...

and barring Israel from a military exercise in Turkish airspace is their right...

Perhaps if the United States didn't continually support Israel unconditionally, without any regard to right or wrong or common sense, they might have a leg to stand on, but no... just not the case

The story is about Turkey, therefore the headline must be true.

His orginial title was "Isreal Bans Turkey on Thanksgiving, Iran Orders Cranberry Sauce for All."

DREAMTROVE

Actually, it's a step closer to the EU, but I expect the EU to collapse before this happens. Turkey is a very likely axis power, for very obvious historical reasons, but it's nice to see them break their role as an Israeli puppet state. Their "united military" agreement was little more than turning 70 million people into the bitch of 6 million. Congrats to them for standing up for themselves.

ETA: We have turkeys all over the place here, huge ones. They do fly, just not for very long. They're capable of flying further than I can, something on the level of a flying squirrel, maybe a little further, but not as far in a distance to body mass ratio.

Good for them. Did they quit NATO?

They did ban Israel from holding wargames in Turkey with USA. Good for them. USAF cancelled the "wargame" for Obama's invasion of Iran.

I lived in Turkey for a few months. Couldn't leave the base for risk of terrorism from the Kosher Kurds, the same Young Turks who slaughtered Armenia and control western Iraq with no US No Fly Zone. But lots of cheap gold and meersham pipes. Frakkin gorgeous women worked on the base, probably intel. USAF troops stationed there during invasion of Iraq in 1990 returned to UK with severe Gulf War Syndrome.

PRESIDENT GUL ON MINARET REFERENDUM IN SWITZERLAND

ANKARA - Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Tuesday that "minaret referendum" held in Switzerland was contrary to fundamental rights and freedoms.
"This is a shame for the Swiss," President Gul told reporters prior to his departure for Jordan on a formal visit.
Commenting on the minaret referendum held in Switzerland, Gul said, "this issue should be monitored seriously. It is a striking element to display how Islamophobia develops in the Western world."
Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said Tuesday the referendum held in Switzerland on November 29 to ban the construction of minarets in this country caused "disappointment".
The MFA said both Turkey and the international community expected Switzerland to take steps to correct the situation (on minarets) that was not in line with the traditions of Switzerland.

UN refugee head: Syria on 'verge of the abyss'

http://www.boston.com/news/world/middle-east/2013/08/27/refugee-head-s
yria-verge-the-abyss/TWqUGZNixU9fGHElbxiYRP/story.html

He made the comments during an interview with The Associated Press in Baghdad while on a visit to Iraq. The country’s northern Kurdish region has been flooded with tens of thousands of refugees since the middle of the month.

The region’s president, Massoud Barzani, earlier this month vowed to defend the large Kurdish population in Syria from al-Qaida-linked rebel fighters, though there is no indication for now that the regional government plans to deploy Kurdish fighters across the border. Doing so would further strain fraught relations with the central government in Baghdad and anger neighboring Turkey.

More than 25 million Kurds live in parts of Turkey, Iran, Syria and Iraq. Many hope to one day carve out an independent homeland of their own.
