Hey fellow browncoats, hope all is well with you.

I was thinking about how everyone is so disappointed about Firefly being cancelled so early, and I had a thought. I actually kind of like the fact that there is only a handful of episodes, because I can be more familiar with each one and, Oh I don't know, know them better. If there was upwards of 100 episodes (I'm not saying that wouldn't be great, it would be gorram awesome), no one would know every quote, every episode name, and so on... Anyone get what I'm saying?

Peace,
Ap0ll0

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I think I would rather have had the 100 episodes.

I would have been satisfied with a complete season I think.

Hundred episodes of the quality we already have and I'd remember every good line.

Sure wish there was a way to find that out, dont' you?

Remember, Joss was making the show the best he could possibly make it, because he thought the show would be cancelled at any time.

If I was in charge of the universe, I would have ordered 110 eps (a full 5 seasons), but NOT tell Joss. Make him think he has to work for it, and wouldn't tell him the show had been renewed 'till the each season finalie aired.

There are people who can quote every line and argue every nuance of Star Trek and Star Wars and BSG and SG1-whatever.

If there were more eps, WE would be those people.

So no, but thanks for trying!

Joss' initial plan was for 7 seasons. Ambitious......yes, but I think true fans of the show would know every nuance, nook and cranny, line, picture, article of clothing, every nosehair.

So no, 110 episodes please.

I have occasionally voiced that same position here, and I've gotten the same reactions as you've gotten. I take a pragmatic approach to it and say that because of the reality that we do only have 14 episodes we definitely do cherish them more than if the series had 75 episodes. I've spent a ton of money on other series DVD's like Babylon 5 and Star Trek. I have box set after box set of others too with 22-49 or more episodes, but where do I usually go to find something I really want to watch? The Firefly Box! Take the 4 discs out of the box and shuffle them around a bit, and then choose an episode that feels right for the moment. And still after years they always entertain immensely.

Agreed (although technically: 154 episodes, writers' strike during Season 6 nothwithstanding).

To me, true tragedy of FIREFLY being cut short was underscored by DOLLHOUSE. While the show is not entirely without merit, there is clearly no comparison. And while we were getting the first season of DOLLHOUSE, what we SHOULD have been getting (if you do the math) is the seventh and final season of FIREFLY.

:(

Tragic.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Yeah, I can get the familiar / intimate feel of fewer episodes, but I personally would have preferred at least five seasons to get more story and give Joss a chance to realize all he wanted with the show. Trust me, I think it safe to say we all would be very familiar with the show, even if it ran 100+ episodes.

Yeah, as one of those people who knows every nuance, quote, line, ship name, etc, from Star Trek: TNG, DS9 and VOY, I can say I would much rather have know 100+ eps of Firefly in depth than the few we have. The human brain has a fantastic capacity to store useless (in the real world, anyway ) knowledge.

Usually I can look at a screen cap and tell you the name of a ST ep. And I feel secure in telling you all this, because you are Browncoats, and will not judge
